MEGA Conference Realignment and lawsuits Megathread: Stories, Tales, Lies, and Exaggerations

As it stands, the ACC is the third best conference in CFB. We don’t need to destroy it. Sure, we all want more TV revenue, but we need to prove we have a product worth watching first. Not before.

The ACC is horrible, absolutely horrible. The margin between the top two conferences and the ACC is the size of Antarctica, it needs to be put down or it will make viewers go blind very soon

The schools would all need to agree to disband, then. This unilateral BS will not work.

NBC just carried Indiana vs. UCLA in a Saturday night prime time window ffs.

The B1G and its media partners definitely need more football brands and/or programs that have won at a significant level this century to drive viewership.

Fact is, though, there are just two such schools realistically within reach: UM and Notre Dame.

Michigan
Ohio State
Penn State
USC
Nebraska
Washington
Oregon

Miami
Notre Dame

Throw in Wisconsin, Iowa and Michigan State — typically solid programs with large fan followings — and that's a dozen schools that can drum up weekly interest for FOX, CBS, NBC and their affiliated platforms

Lot's of attractions and benefits to joining the BIG.

Location of the other member schools isn't one of them. We'll be playing in places that have the worst mid and late Fall game weather in the country.

This is a long history article on media rights (fascinating read, actually), but it highlights something I said about The ACC: Signing a long term deal has hampered this conference.

I’ll call this the Scottie Pippen Rule; when Bulls management told him not to sign the long term contract offered to him b/c it would be below market in a few yrs, Scottie was more concerned about long term security. When **** hit the fan, he tried to get out the contract realizing how under paid he was compared to his production, but it was too late.

These AD’s are trying to blame the conference, but in reality every school should be cleaning house for agreeing to long term stability over market value.

TIFWIW
From his source that gave him USC to big before anyone and Colorado to big 12
“Lots of different roads lead Miami towards the Big Ten between 2026 and 2029. Difficult to project all those roads being closed off to Miami. University OF Miami is who big 10 presidents want as part of the next expansion and there won’t be any objections being reCEIVED from media And money interests”

And
Big dominos to fall first, then dominos to fall after but not really going to alter the future of Miami. Miami is an island on itself. The other moves and lawsuits will have no ultimate impact. And it’s connected to big ten

(This is behind a member wall but I think he’s talking about it later on his live show)

This is where not being loud and litigious helps us. These old money B1G Presidents and BOT want nothing to do with the FSU headache. They want a good partner that will be on their level when it comes to academics, research, and maybe athletics. TV will push for the big names but the Presidents still have to sign off on the institution. They don't want a bad partner as we move to a Power 2 this is going to be a LONG partnership.

You dont think UCLA playing in their first big 10 game isnt worth primetime? They were with the Pac for 100 years

I don't know if they are worth prime time. What I do know, thanks to Coach Foster, is that UCLA is in Los Angeles.......Who knew?!?!

From its founding to today the ACC has always been structurally unsound. Similar to the old PAC 12 it has a heavy concentration of schools in one state (NC btw has an oversized # of FBS programs given its size) and has 6 private schools (Big 10 - 0, SEC - 1, & Big 12 - 2).

Big 12 has 3

The ACC will rarely being on ABC / CBS / ESPN national broadcasts ever again. The SEC is now having games featured on:

-ESPN
-ABC (3 featured games every Saturday ... Noon; 3:30 and 7:30
-SEC Network

Add to this the fact that the B10 will be featuring Friday Night B10 Football for at least 9 Friday nights this season ... as national broadcasts .... the ACC games will be relegated to streaming apps only .... hardly any games will be featured on over the air TV where 60% of casual viewers watch games. Reduced air time = more difficult recruiting and also lower media payouts vs the "P2". Miami NEEDS TO BE in the P2 by 2027.
