MEGA Conference Realignment and lawsuits Megathread: Stories, Tales, Lies, and Exaggerations

What Rellyrell said in 2022, the same guy who broke news of Colorado, Utah, & The Zona Schools will be heading to the Big12 prior to the news of them actually deflecting to the Big12.

Theyā€™re a founding member of the MWC, & based upon debt w/in in their AD, they couldnā€™t afford the exit fee. After renegotiating, they chose short term stability & decision making power itā€™ll wield in the MWC. They may still bounce in the future, but for now the monetary uncertainty was not appealing.

So, since both leagues ****ed themselves now

MWC needs two schools and might be FCS moving up since they would probably cover the $5 million change and Pac-12 needs one and FCS Sacramento State possibility

They could have just merged. One of the two females on power trip.

Hereā€™s whatā€™s interesting:

Since 1990 (CFB Natā€™l Championships by Conference):
-PAC 12-3
-B1G-4
-Big XII-6
-ACC - 6
-SEC - 17

Since 1990 (CBB Natā€™l Championships by Conference)
-B1G - 1
-PAC 12-2
-Big XII-3
-SEC - 6
-ACC-10

*Big East is now defunct & didnā€™t include our 1991 or 2001 Titles.
*Championships counted based upon what conference teams were affiliated with at time of championships

So again, Iā€™m not sure how or y The B1G have been given all this power & influence besides itā€™s history from the 1900ā€™s-early 80ā€™s, but the ACC shouldā€™ve at least position itself as a Big 3, b/c frankly theyā€™ve earned it.

Mind boggling how the ACC has accomplished more in 30+ yrs, only behind the SEC, & treated like a red headed step child.

IMO,

1. Student Body/Alumni Size - The ACC has 8 out of 18 schools that are private (the largest of which has 23,000 students - Syracuse). Even its public schools are on the smaller side - only 3 institutions with more than 40,000 students (FSU, GT, and Cal). The ACC has no schools with over 50k students. As a comparison, the B1G has only 2 private schools (NW & USC - USC has 47k students). B1G has 9 schools with over 50,000 students (including 2 over 60k).

2. B1G Much Better Business Decisions - B1G made the brilliant move to be the first major conference to start its own cable TV channel and has used its success to gain the upper hand financially over the rest of college sports to this day. B1G also smartly expanded based on football and led to the record-breaking TV deals they are now enjoying.

ACC on the other hand, expanded based on basketball and was late to the game in getting a TV network, and when they did, they signed away their fortunes for up to 20 years (depending on ESPN's decision in February 2025) on a ****** deal financially in the long run.

To add insult to injury, when the ACC DID expand based on football 20 years ago, Miami and VT dropped the ball on them and have been mediocre for the vast majority of their membership. And then when they inexplicably expanded based on basketball a little over 10 years ago, the schools they brought in - Syracuse and Pitt - have been mediocre in that sport as well.

That's called poor leadership.
