Carson Beck

I don't particularly like/prefer it, but y'all are acting like Beck has no chance at being good lol.

The guy has good build, he's fine athletically - no statue in the pocket, he has a good arm, and in general he can be a field general with command of an offense. By far the biggest question after THIS season is can he drastically improve his play under pressure. If he can and drastically reduces his turnover worthy plays then he can be legit good.

Honestly idk how anyone would watch what he did last season and watch Emory and think Beck isn't an obvious actual proven upgrade. And I get @Memnon never liked him, but the fact is he was projected as the potential top QB in the draft entering this season, and is STILL projected as a top 5-10 QB if he were to declare for the draft. And maybe he would be garbage at the next level, but he is absolutely still a good (or better) college passer.

My issue is that I just don't believe he will be cheap as far as NIL is concerned AND the arm injury is 100% a big risk. Not even necessarily that he won't be healed and good to go from a strength standpoint, my issue would be how it affects him mentally or maybe changes his motion a little which can affect his accuracy. And again if we pay him a lot I seriously think it's a mistake. The more he's paid the more I don't like it. I'd rather have a cheaper good QB and other weapons with the money were saving, than Beck at a very high cost.... BUT if he wasn't insanely expensive, I do think he has higher proven potential than quite a few QBs that everyone is high on. Again you don't get 1st round projections as a 5th yr senior for just no reason and without actual ability.

I’ve had a rule since Tebow played for the Broncos and Skip Bayless would fellate him for having a good W-L record while completing 2 passes in games. The rule is if you bring up win Loss record for a qb I instantly stop debating or discussing. I’m out. This isn’t baseball and they aren’t starting pitchers. You can get a win playing one snap and it was a pick.
Trent Dilfer won a Super Bowl and was released the next offseason.

It seems Dmoney is trying to brace everyone if not full on eluding to Miami will likley have Beck or Ewers at the end of all of this. However, Cribby being so critical of Beck is either a sign he isn't the one, or just spittin facts. If Nickel isnt physically ready for the job I would be happy with someone who has won a lot in the SEC. The talent level in the ACC is nowhere as daunting
If I recall correctly, @Cribby said that there were two names not in the portal yet. One he liked and one he wasn’t so hot on. Correct me if I’m wrong. His criticism of Beck is 100% valid. I think he’d do fine here, but he went into a shell multiple times this year.

Who are the better perceived options?

I was labeled a Cuban supremacist for saying Mendoza would be a good addition. Now he went somewhere else and he’s Johnny Unitas.

As owner of this place it’s a no win and I agree with your Mendoza take (on him being a good addition) and point that the ppl are jumping to crazy ends of the spectrum.

My comment is only on the way you are selling Beck when you could be silent (and then make the point if/when it happens).

And Beck is not yet in nor do we know who else COULD be (so who is better is moot). What I do feel is if we passed on Mendoza for Beck that was a mistake, especially if a big difference in $$$ (which. I think could be case, but again no way to know for sure).

The stats between the two years aren't actually that big of a difference. As I said above, the bigger factors in his production dips were losing Bowers and McConekey. I also haven't said anything about how great Beck is or how crappy he is. So come after other people with a million questions.

Mike Bobo is a crap playcaller and I think Beck would be better in Dawson's system.
Why do UGA fans want him gone ? I mean everyone here says you should listen to fan bases when a guy leave’s. If they’re upset be happy , if they’re happy they’re leaving be upset. They’d much rather have the walk on Bennett back who was twice the player as the five star.

If y’all want to brainwash yourselves into thinking somebody is something they aren’t just because they could be an option go for it. I have eyes and I’ve watched this guy look absolutely awful at times. He’s literally been bad as much as he’s been great. He’s just lucky to have a great defense to keep them in games while he’s struggling. He pads stats against bad teams then struggles against anyone with a pulse. Watch the full UF game again and get back to me. It took a Fr from an Ivy League coming in at qb to save them from an upset.

Taking a guy with all his issues and a significant elbow injury ON HIS THROWING ELBOW is beyond crazy. That can’t be the best option and no amount of copium will make me belive it.

Cool.

Mike Bobo is a crap playcaller and any QB not only Beck would be better in Dawson's system. That's all I originally said.

First of all, you’re wrong.

Secondly, don’t let the supporting cast of better OLine, TEs, RBs, and overall roster get in the way of your cherry picking.
In two years at Washington state Ward threw the ball 117 more times than Beck did at UGA. Ward threw for 460 less yards and 4 less touchdowns while throwing 2 less picks (point in his favor). I would take the higher completion %, yards, tds, and passer rating stats over the 2 interception difference and it’s prob hard to say that I’m “wrong” about the stats being better. His team and competition were worse and he did worse. If you want to debate your eyes tell you Beck is a system guy that’s fine you’re entitled to that opinion. I personally don’t think he had the most amazing cast and oc in 2024

So ANOTHER thread with 20K looks and over 400 posts about a guy we’ll never see step on Greentree.

Fair. I watched plenty of Georgia the past two years and the basic stats and my eye test (lol) tell me not that big of a difference, but that's an interesting stat. He was objectively worse this season no doubt. Arguing about how much prolly just runs in circles on this board!
Sure, and to be clear if the choice is between Emory/Nickel or Beck as QB against ND, I'm 100% in favor of getting Beck and his bionic elbow. I just hope we exhaust all other viable options before settling on him.

I don't think Bobo is a good OC, but Beck had a great year last year with him. Maybe Bobo got hooked on Galaxy Gas and was much much dumber this year? He also had a generational TE and a WR who has proven to be a very good NFL WR in his rookie year. UGA also was a much better rushing team last year. I thought the injury to Roderick Robinson hurt them a lot this year. He looked awesome against FSU in the bowl game. Etienne I thought was overrated going into the year, but he was also injured a bunch.

It's possible Beck can revert back to something resembling his '23 form. Also possible that without an elite TE and WR he's an average QB who can become a TVD-like turnover machine when he has to read a defense. I think we'll have a good and possibly elite running game next year, but it doesn't appear as though we're going to have saftey net guys like Bowers and McConkey who were pretty much always open and who could get yards after the catch.

Anyways Merry Christmas, as you're right we could probably run in circles for days going back and forth about why Beck regressed this year vis-a-vis last year.

I actually agree with your downside analysis. He's a risk and maybe not a good one. But I also agree with D$.

If we had risk management in Coral Gables, we probably don't end up with Cam Ward.

Also a transfer quarterback that took a nosedive in his last year (10 TD, 10 INT at Arizona State in his last season) before transferring, balling, and becoming a Top 5 pick and Offensive Rookie of the Year candidate.
I respect your opinion brother and the Bobo stuff is fair but decision making is decision making. Then the whole risk thing .

Fair, again. For the record, I'd like the starting QB of the Miami Hurricanes to be someone better than Carson Beck. I just don't see many options out there and I'm admittedly not up to date with any 'mystery candidates'.
