I hate to say it but having a big year. Failing to meet expectations and now losing cam ward and going to a Carson beck. It all scares the **** out of me. Way to similar to DJU going to FSU and the fallout they had.

good for us the two teams we cant beat georgia tech and clemson are in the acc then.

Beck in this offense could be like Darnold with the Vikings. He gets zero coaching at Georgia and his WRs are bottom tier. He was pretty good with Bowers and Ladd.

That’s the drawback with Ewers. He’s getting coached by one of the best and is still inconsistent. You let Beck play in this offense with the protection he’s going to get due to our line, the running game and the lack of pass rush in the ACC and it can be scary.
 
@DMoney - We get you are trying to make a logic point, and yes reasonably Beck is better than a good number of P4 QBs, but to expect that to convince us it’s the right choice is false equivalency when better perceived options based on reasonable inference are available.

Put in law terms: your client is charged. He could be convicted for 10-15 years but prosecution willing to give 5-7. You’re trying convince us to take the 7 and say we’re gambling on the unknown. BUT the evidence doesn’t make it open and shut and your way puts us in prison…

Not to mention the $$$ I believe Beck takes away from others (as I have a hard time believing in that Beck commands less than Mendoza)

If ward improved like he did (going from an average draft grade to being possibly the #1 pick) being in Dawsons systems then it’s fair to Beck/Ewers would improve and benefit as well.

If Ewers doesn’t get the grade he’s hoping then Mario/Dawson have a VERY strong pitch for him….almost like they can say “come to Miami and improve your draft grade”…….

I agree with all that you said except for the bolded.

I don’t think Dawson’s system had anything to do with Cam’s rise to the top. Not saying Dawson is not good, I think he is, but he’s not the reason. Cam would’ve been what he is anywhere that had the same or better talent we had on offense. Actually, he would’ve been the consensus Heisman and 1st pick if he had a defense that was worth a ****.

I also don’t think Dawson’s system will turn Beck or Ewers into markedly better QBs than what they already are (maybe Beck is slightly better solely because Bobo is trash).

The difference between 2023 Beck and 2024 Beck is minimal. The expectations coming into this season make his dropoff seem much bigger than it actually is. I would argue Ladd McConekey and Brock Bowers are pretty much the differences between the two seasons.

One thing that was consistent across both seasons is mike Bobo being crap.

Who are the better perceived options?

I was labeled a Cuban supremacist for saying Mendoza would be a good addition. Now he went somewhere else and he’s Johnny Unitas.

So, a lot of talk in here on Beck and obviously so. I mean it is his thread and all. I agree with all the negative sentiment towards him. Our insiders are chiming in on this, and I guess my question is if not him then who? There needs to be someone brought in to at least compete with Emory. He doesn’t deserve the job. He has to win the job. Who else is there out there that we can bring in? Or is our options Beck or bust?

I think it's fair to argue about the cause of his dropoff but I disagree that the dropoff was "minimal." He was 7th in EPA/dropback (.35) in '23 and 50th this year (.10). That's a significant dropoff, which tracks across his traditional numbers as well.

The stats between the two years aren't actually that big of a difference. As I said above, the bigger factors in his production dips were losing Bowers and McConekey. I also haven't said anything about how great Beck is or how crappy he is. So come after other people with a million questions.

Mike Bobo is a crap playcaller and I think Beck would be better in Dawson's system.

Fair. I watched plenty of Georgia the past two years and the basic stats and my eye test (lol) tell me not that big of a difference, but that's an interesting stat. He was objectively worse this season no doubt. Arguing about how much prolly just runs in circles on this board!

Lot of keyboard wizards and seasoned talent evaluators on the board who saw a game or two and talked to a friend who has a friend who knows a UGA fan. Maybe we should all set our knowledge aside and let our HC and offensive coordinator make an evaluation. Is he even gonna be healthy by spring, can he be coached, does he upgrade the room and what’s the cost?
