Carson Beck

I really wish i had your optimism when comparing a career backup QB with a below avarage arm and a guy that has NFL talent.
A career backup? He's been here 2 years
I've never seen nfl potential in beck watched 10-12 games and never saw it. But I remember vandyke being mocked as a 1st too. I always thought he was terrible too

In two years at Washington state Ward threw the ball 117 more times than Beck did at UGA. Ward threw for 460 less yards and 4 less touchdowns while throwing 2 less picks (point in his favor). I would take the higher completion %, yards, tds, and passer rating stats over the 2 interception difference and it’s prob hard to say that I’m “wrong” about the stats being better. His team and competition were worse and he did worse. If you want to debate your eyes tell you Beck is a system guy that’s fine you’re entitled to that opinion. I personally don’t think he had the most amazing cast and oc in 2024
You’re right how foolish of all of us. Beck >>>>>> Ward.

I’m sure Beck would’ve thrown 2x what Cam did if he was at WSU. Bobo is the sole reason Beck isn’t the Heisman.

Also if only we had Beck this year, we would’ve been 12-0. ******* bum *** Cam. Can’t even hold Beck’s jockstrap

You guys know UGA is top 10 in the country in drops and worst in the P4 right?

I mean Beck isn’t the star everyone thought he’d be, but he’s definitely better than Mendoza. Evidenced by the fact that…Mendoza wound up at Indiana, and not UGA.

UGA has also struggled up front this year and their OL isn’t as good as it normally is, plus the running game has been virtually nonexistent.

Also, Beck is coached by Mike Bobo. We all know how bad Mike Bobo is.

Now, if the conundrum is overpay for Beck out of desperation but don’t add quality receiving threats, or spend less on a different QB to add quality around the team…then idk.

In an ideal world, we’re spending everywhere. Beck can definitely get us 9, probably 10 wins. He’s better than Lagway, he’s better than whatever ND trots out (probably Angeli).

Would be the second best or best QB in the conference…

When he was named the ACC Rookie of the Year you came on here saying he was terrible?

No. Of course you didn’t.

But, to be fair, he had played a bunch of nobodies. Beck has faced defenses and athletes far better than what he’ll see here on a weekly basis.

The kid is a proven, good player. Is he Cam Ward? No. Guess what? Nobody will be. We need someone who can keep the offense humming efficiently while hopefully improving the defense. Beck would be a home run get. There’s no debate. Especially when you are choosing between options like Mendoza, Emory, etc. Mateer was the one. He went elsewhere. A kid like Carson Beck would be a fine consolation prize.

The debate isn’t whether Beck is better than Ward. News Flash: He’s not.

The debate isn’t whether Beck is better than Mendoza. New Flash: It no longer matters.

The debate should be whether Beck (and his gimpy right elbow) is better than Emory.

My $.02 is give me Beck with Emory as the backup.

Note: I reserve the right to change my mind if either Leavitt or Robertson enter the Portal.

I see plenty of debate here by our insiders

Can someone definitively say that we are or aren’t targeting Beck?

And if we’re not, at this point, who the **** is left?

I imagine there's likely a board and Beck may be on it. May be several other QBs on it who aren't in the portal as well.

I didn’t say any of this chill out (I’m not sure what this kind of post adds to the discussion). Cam is awesome and had an amazing year. All I’m saying is Beck has produced and the 11th qbr in the country against the toughest schedule in the country (yes on a good team) is more than I’d expect out of Emory. For me of the portal qbs (or ones discussed here as potential options) it’d be Mateer> ewers/Beck> Mendoza> Emory.

Sir, this is CIS. If Mendoza is even just decent at IU and Beck comes here and doesn't lead us to the playoff, I estimate there will be at least 10,000 porsts yelling about how we should have just taken Mendoza.
Agreed.

This Board was split 60/40 against Mendoza. A year from now it will seem like it was 90/10 in favor of Mendoza with posters saying…“I knew we should have signed Mendoza…What was Mario thinking?”
