Carson Beck

There was once this highly touted prep QB that went to the SEC, had some success, but was largely considered a bust and a bum. Couldn't hit over 60% of his passes, struggled to get to 20 TDs. Man, just a real mess and surely a bum and everyone at the program was happy he left.

Then he transferred and ended up 3rd in the Heisman voting and a first round pick. Probably going to win Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Bo Nix was at Auburn and started as a true frosh at the back end of Malzahn’s time there. Beck took over for the two-time defending national champions as a 4th year player. The situations were not the same

Do you think those situations are anywhere comparable ? Beens Nix was surround by trash and a trash staff. Beck had the best roster in Cfb to play with.

Exactly. Beck waited and was prepped for years. He’s been there since 2020.

And he completed 72.4% of his passes for 3940 yards (9.5 y/a) 24 tds 6 ints and a 13-1 record. Hes not as good as cam but comparing him to Emory or saying he’s bad is crazy

Who do you want? Don't give me pie in the sky.
Other than Ewers, i don’ think any QB left in the portal is worth a lot more in NIL than Emory. I think we can win with Emory and an improved defense if we get the WR room setup correctly. I’d like to see the unspent QB NIL money spent on WR’s and DT and DB’s.
I think Emory would beat out Mendoza. I’ve always expected Emory to start next season regardless of the transfer (other than Mateer).

I just don’t understand the Emory hate. He just doesn’t have a lot of tape. Not fair to judge him on 2 games freshman year. He’s now had a full year (second in the system) to learn especially under Ward. Was invaluable for Mateer at WSU (Arbuckles words, not mine).

I’m not saying he’s leading us to the promise land, but Miami not making moves tells me they trust Emory. No one here can really evaluate him outside of the staff at this point.

There is probably a few guys they think is worth going after and is better than Emory but not available now. Unfortunately got to be patient here and ride and trust the staff that gave us the number 1 offense this year.

Beck is an above average college QB, no real debating that. The debate is how far above average. But he has injury concerns, is a questionable leader, would probably be very expensive and we have no idea if we can get him much less if he even jumps in the portal.

The issue is that it sounds like we could have had Mendoza locked up. Is Beck potentially a good option? Sure. But with all those question marks it just seems to make more sense to get Mendoza on board and be done with it. He might just end up better and more cost effective anyway plus the whole bird in the hand thing.

Looking at where we’ve been and where we are going, missing out on Mateer—our top prospect and the guy with the highest value prop—is a significant setback. Now, we’re facing the uncertainty of Emory and Luke, with an upside likely capped at 9 wins and substantial downside (losing record).

Adding Ewers or Beck could mitigate some of that downside risk. Their experience in big games, combined with the potential impact of Dawson’s scheme, probably will provide stabilization for next year with a higher ceiling than what we have. I'd feel better with Ewers heading into ND and next season, personally.

So now do the 2024 stats where it would be reasonable to assume the 5th year player would not be the absolute disaster he was in several games. If Georgia wasn’t as loaded as they were Beck’s performances would’ve been responsible for a 4-5 loss UGA season. How bad do you have to be to potentially lower Georgia’s ceiling that much?

So now bring that guy to Miami. A worse program in maybe every aspect. You want to depend on the ACC being bad? We just saw the most prolific QB in Miami history unable to overcome the Mario effect to even make the ACC title game. Using the “at least he’s not Emory” argument is poor marketing too. That’s just an indictment of Mario. It doesn’t make Beck more appealing

Everyone runs to stats.com but how many people watched every UGA game ? There’s as much bad as great and the rest is meh with a bunch of turnovers. In a very conservative offense. He’s he second coming of Doug Johnson. The guy with all the talent to make people drool but he hasn’t learned jack and he’s been at UGA since 2020. On top of that he needs surgery. Go watch the entire UF game then get back to me. He won’t be able to depend on a defense and constant short fields like he did there. There’s a reason most UGA fans want him to leave and miss the walk on.Watching their games I get it. He’s the definition of a rollercoaster at qb. Maybe he’s the next Kyle McCord but Witt a bum arm. Risky *** take imo.
Let’s also go back to film from ‘23 and see why he was being projected as top returning QB and first round pick. NFL personnel folks obviously liked how he projected. Talent didn’t just go away. Questions to be dug into are what changed in ‘24 and can he return to form based on change in scenery - coaching/system, healthy offensive line, better skill talent, new conference, healed arm.

Definitely a major risk, but one worth exploring.
