Carson Beck

This guy is an NFL draft pick who put up big numbers in the SEC. He’s tall, has a good arm, and can run. Most importantly, he has a ton of experience. Of course he’s better than most college quarterbacks in the country.

If he jumped in the Portal, he would immediately get a huge transfer grade and a ton of calls. I think Cam Ward has distorted our fanbase’s idea of what a good college QB looks like.

Which is why I keep asking: if Beck is trash, who is better in 2025? It should be a long list.
One year of Beck into two years of Emory or Luke would be great in my opinion.

Exactly what we need. A turnover machine QB, or as I’ve called him, TVD 2.0 who can’t even gel and throw with our WRs until May.

I’ll give him some benefit of the doubt, Mike Bobo was his OC. Aside from that, I’d be skeptical.
Always give me the guy that does more with less than the guy that does less with more.

Hard ******* pass on Beck.

You’ve got to be ******* kidding me if this is the plan, especially since he is damaged goods now. You were given an out based on the injury and they are going to charge forward with this plan?

I think the goal for whoever comes, is to squeeze out 10 wins and help shape our young QB room to take over next year. If Beck comes, I could hold my nose and take a couple of implosions as long as he got us to 10 wins and get Luke some real snaps during the season.

If the price is reasonable and we are able to address our other issues, it’s way better than going with Emory. It’s a major fall off from Cam but are we really gonna say this kid is TVD? His TO issues this season are a major concern but this is a guy that has a high ceiling and has performed at the highest level of CFB.

To say Mendoza is better is crazy to me as well. I think there is a sentiment that Mendoza is better because the price tag would be better and because we are projecting that Mendoza would continue to improve but that just isn’t a given. For the record, I view Mendoza as much better than Emory and he is pretty good.

In 23 Beck looked big time and while he 100% had elite weapons, he looked great. I’m not elated about the possibility of Beck but we are slowly approaching a situation where it seems no one is good enough and I wonder if it’s because of how we **** the bed with a talent like Cam this year…

If that’s who we have to choose between we are in good shape imo.

I wouldn’t take Beck solely because he doesn’t seem to have that alpha dog/leadership trait Mario looks for and honestly I think ewers would better fit that mold.
Prefer Beck, but you’re right about not acting like a dog. Tough and doesn’t wilt under hits, but seems quiet and almost aloof.

Crazy because I agree! From a talent perspective I like Beck but I know Ewers has more leadership qualities. I would be fine with either tbh

Reasonable or not, keep that mopey faced front runner as far away from Miami as possible. You couldn’t have two more polar opposites than Cam and Carson. A guy looking to prove everyone wrong and pursing a dream vs a guy potentially looking for a comfortable landing spot where his girlfriend lives. The program needs to be player driven and led because Mario ain’t gonna be where it comes from. Not with the pulse of the team. I don’t know the options but if they’re paying top of the market money for a bus rider like Beck that would be money well spent elsewhere. Beck won’t elevate Miami. He’ll play exactly to Miami’s level. And unless I’m missing something Mario ain’t Kirby. So we’re staring 8-4, 9-3 in the face with Beck as a guy whose best attribute is “at least he’s not Emory”
His girlfriend won't even be a student or athlete at Miami next year. One could argue that he has something to prove given that he went from being predicted as a top draft pick and potential Heisman to now having to come back another year for either of those things to even be a possibility.

And he still threw for 3,500 yards with SEC-average skill talent.
@DMoney related to this, what would you expect to be the timeline with Beck if he were to forgo the draft and enter the portal? Right now on paper our skill talent for next season doesn’t appear to be any better than what he’s had at UGA and I have to imagine the qb situation is a major consideration for portal receivers.

Everyone runs to stats.com but how many people watched every UGA game ? There’s as much bad as great and the rest is meh with a bunch of turnovers. In a very conservative offense. He’s he second coming of Doug Johnson. The guy with all the talent to make people drool but he hasn’t learned jack and he’s been at UGA since 2020. On top of that he needs surgery. Go watch the entire UF game then get back to me. He won’t be able to depend on a defense and constant short fields like he did there. There’s a reason most UGA fans want him to leave and miss the walk on.Watching their games I get it. He’s the definition of a rollercoaster at qb. Maybe he’s the next Kyle McCord but Witt a bum arm. Risky *** take imo.

Do they kick you out of a city once you stop going to the major university in it?

One could argue as much as they want. This is a case of star whoring(portal edition). No one pushing for this will tell you what his issues are. Just his overall numbers and he did it in the SEC. As if the implosions and why they happened aren’t just as important

Does Miami have unlimited funds? Can they pay for Carson Beck and then pay for others and build a roster that doesn’t count on Carson Beck to save it? Because that’s not who he is. He’s not pulling Mario out of any of the predictable 2-3 disaster scenarios Mario teams will find themselves in. He’ll only be as good as the roster and coaching around him help him to be.

Great question. I don’t know. I imagine he doesn’t want to distract his team in the playoffs either way.

If I was trying to sunshine pump, I'd be hyping the QBs in the room already.

One of three things is going to happen: (1) Beck will go pro and get drafted; (2) Beck will return to Georgia as a preseason Heisman contender; or (3) Beck will enter the Portal and immediately jump to the top of everyone's rankings.

In all circumstances, the external valuation of Beck will far exceed what I'm reading on here.
Ok -

And if Beck does #1 or #2, what then????

I believe, myself included, we are being harsher on Beck because of the injury and because of his performance this year vs last year but what outweighs this is the situation that our head coach has put this program in, AGAIN, with the QB situation in year 4.

It seems Dmoney is trying to brace everyone if not full on eluding to Miami will likley have Beck or Ewers at the end of all of this. However, Cribby being so critical of Beck is either a sign he isn't the one, or just spittin facts. If Nickel isnt physically ready for the job I would be happy with someone who has won a lot in the SEC. The talent level in the ACC is nowhere as daunting

You make such a great point on Cam Ward. It is REALLY tough for me to be objective on other QBs because of what we saw Cam do lol. No QB outside of him is going to get a fair chance.

There was once this highly touted prep QB that went to the SEC, had some success, but was largely considered a bust and a bum. Couldn't hit over 60% of his passes, struggled to get to 20 TDs. Man, just a real mess and surely a bum and everyone at the program was happy he left.

Then he transferred and ended up 3rd in the Heisman voting and a first round pick. Probably going to win Offensive Rookie of the Year.
