I just don’t understand the Emory hate. He just doesn’t have a lot of tape. Not fair to judge him on 2 games freshman year. He’s now had a full year (second in the system) to learn especially under Ward. Was invaluable for Mateer at WSU (Arbuckles words, not mine).

I’m not saying he’s leading us to the promise land, but Miami not making moves tells me they trust Emory. No one here can really evaluate him outside of the staff at this point.

There is probably a few guys they think is worth going after and is better than Emory but not available now. Unfortunately got to be patient here and ride and trust the staff that gave us the number 1 offense this year.

I agree 100%. I don’t understand how his 2 games as a freshman is enough. Which tells me that the opinions are largely based on Emory’s rating out of high school. Similar to how some people don’t believe in Nickel because he isn’t a 5 star.
On top of that, Emory led the Canes to a win against Clemson and was in a great game agsint an undefeated FSU team before the injury.

Let’s also go back to film from ‘23 and see why he was being projected as top returning QB and first round pick. NFL personnel folks obviously liked how he projected. Talent didn’t just go away. Questions to be dug into are what changed in ‘24 and can he return to form based on change in scenery - coaching/system, healthy offensive line, better skill talent, new conference, healed arm.

Definitely a major risk, but one worth exploring.

Doug Johnson had all the talent too. Talent is nice but there’s a lot more with qb than talent.

If Georgia wasn’t as loaded as they were Beck’s performances would’ve been responsible for a 4-5 loss UGA season. How bad do you have to be to potentially lower Georgia’s ceiling that much?

So now bring that guy to Miami. A worse program in maybe every aspect. You want to depend on the ACC being bad? We just saw the most prolific QB in Miami history unable to overcome the Mario effect to even make the ACC title game. Using the “at least he’s not Emory” argument is poor marketing too. That’s just an indictment of Mario. It doesn’t make Beck more appealing

I like Mendoza, too. I suspect his reputation on this board will increase now that he’s not coming.

One advantage I see with someone like Beck is that he’d be one and done to hand it off to Luke Nickel. Mendoza had the extra year.

Isn't that the **** truth. Lot of revisionist history taking place in these threads. Mendoza was a consensus no go until Mateer committed to OU. Now he's the hero we deserve.

The stats are the stats include 4 games where he threw 2 or more INTs. 3 games where he threw 3 picks. No other QB in the Kirby era threw more more than 8 in a season

If you watched film from this year, you’d know Beck didn’t play with the best roster in college football. Great defense, but offensive talent wasn’t good this year. Best players were often hurt. Miami’s offensive talent was light years better.

So you’re telling me Carson Beck needs NFL starters around him to be successful in an offense that just asks him to not ***** up. And when those guys left he couldn’t help but ***** up. Cool

You said he took over for the defending champs - that’s what he did in 2023 with that level of talent. Georgia lost that talent and this is what he did with a strong (but prob more similar to us than to the 21-23 uga offenses) offense and the hardest schedule in cfb:

64.7% comp 3,485 yards (7.8 y/a) 28 tds 12 ints 80.8 qbr (11th in country) 10-2 record. Seems pretty good to me - I think Dawson can help improve those numbers and he can end up in between 23/24 stats which is way better than I can realistically hope from Emory.

For reference, here are Dillon Gabriel’s 2024 number 1 heisman qb vote getting stats:

73% comp % 3,558 8.8 y/a 28 tds 6 ints 86.7 qbr. That is the Maxwell award winning top of the heap stats and a 12-0 record. Like @DMoney said, Ward spoiled us.

Bringing in a turnover machine with an arm that needs surgery would be hilarity lol. I’m sorry. Spring ball matters especially in the portal era . We need all the snaps in the world for skill guys . If he had two functioning arms then it wouldn’t be as bad. Give him money and hope he recovers fully. Then hope he plays well which is a crap shoot in itself. However, Ewers has the talent to go first round and high first round. He may see what Cam did to catapult himself and stay one more year and come to Miami. The blue print is already laid out.

And in my opinion, Ewers would have a chip on his shoulder. He would have a better line. And I may sound biased, but he could have a better receiving core.

That’s BS. No different than Restrepo as a go to or quick Horton slant or George screen. They all produce stats - perhaps often misleading.

Look Beck can throw the ball well.

He played horrifically under pressure though. Had like a 9% Turnover worthy play rate under pressure.

When **** hit the fan this yr he crumbled too often. If **** doesn't hit the fan he can throw and distribute well.

I guess we hope he isn't like TVD or the worst parts of Cam

Beck isn't even in the equation. He is from Jacksonville and will probably end up at UCF if he gets eligibility. Plus, once the Colander or whatever her name is realizes he is no longer a 1st rounder, she's done with him.

Ewers can stay in the college game another decade and likely won’t change his draft grade. People know what he is. Probably can make as much or more NIL money than 2nd or 3rd rd pick.
