Carson Beck

Based on the language in the tweets (repair and not reconstruction) and the timeline, it sounds like he got the same procedure as Brock Purdy. They used the same doctor, too.

Purdy was injured at the end of January and ended up finishing 4th in MVP voting that season. Here is an article on the specific surgery, which is different than Tommy John:

Am I crazy for thinking Carson Beck might actually be cheaper than Mendoza or Ewers?

Ewers vs Beck
The two have had almost identical seasons the last couple of years. Both are proven winners who’ve played in huge games. They can be inconsistent, but their stats show they’re capable of putting up big numbers and carrying a team when they’re on. That said, both have played on stacked rosters, so there’s not a ton of hidden potential...what you see is what you get.

Mendoza vs Beck
Mendoza took a big step forward this year, but he’s been held back by the lack of talent around him and a rough offensive line. There are still a lot of question marks with him, but he’s got some tools that make him interesting. The upside is what drives the hype and the price tag. Teams love to pay for potential, and that’s easier to justify than spending big on someone like Beck, who’s more of a known quantity.

Other thing I would say about Beck is that when Kirby decided to go with Bobo as OC after Monken, the entire CFB world breathed a sigh of relief. In his first season with Bobo, Beck probably would have been drafted had he declared and might have been the 4th QB taken (before Rattler). Going into this season, most people had Beck as the #1 QB for the draft.

Had Kirby brought in a legit OC, it's not a stretch to imagine Beck would be producing at a higher level and we wouldn't be having this conversation at all because Beck would be prepping to become the #1 overall pick.

Exactly what we need. A turnover machine QB, or as I’ve called him, TVD 2.0 who can’t even gel and throw with our WRs until May.

I’ll give him some benefit of the doubt, Mike Bobo was his OC. Aside from that, I’d be skeptical.
Ditto

Think Beck would be a great pickup. The turnover stuff doesn't bother me. Georgia doesn't have the weapons this season and he would be getting a better OC. When he had a good OC last season 24/6 TD/INT ratio.

Am I crazy to think that if you took the logos off their helmets and just watched tape that Mendoza is the better play for this offense? Bobo is god awful, but there were times that Beck was 100% seeing ghosts out there. Not to mention the supporting cast was exponentially better. Add in the elbow and I feel like you need to run away from this situation

I like Mendoza more than Beck if I’m projecting Mendoza with good weapons behind a capable OL.

Beck would be moving to an OL that doesn’t protect him as good as the one he just had and arguably less skill talent. Definitely less skill talent than he had in 2023 when he was actually good

Bobo was his OC both seasons

The only change was Brock Bowers, Ladd McConkey and Beck seeing ghosts

We don’t even have weapons like the 2024 Georgia team, let alone the 2023 team. Maybe a better run game. But there’s no Bowers and no McConkey.

I’m sure we’ll have fans spin Lofton into Bowers before long if we went this path

Georgias offensive line was a huge issue the middle of the year when every one was ****ting on Beck. And honestly was an issue most of the year. So I think our olines are similar.

if Beck is healthy, I'm good with either of these two...I don't think we need superhero qb's, we need someone capable...to get the ball to the playmakers. a heavy dose of our good RB's and a much improved Defense(it can't get worse, can it?)

2024 Beck definitely had some issues with turnovers. 2023 Beck though was actually pretty good in that department.

It's probably a mixed bag of Bobo being Bobo and Beck maybe trying to do too much. It's absolutely an issue but we see QBs take big steps forward and backwards every year when it comes to that.

I'm kind of on the fence on Beck, Ewers, and Mendoza. Neither is a great option. But I do see a world where all 3 can be successful.

..........almost all of that hinges on the defense though (and running game becoming a dominant force in ACC).

I don't know this. Bobo's offense is akin to a disease that slowly spreads and destroys teams, but I just don't think Beck has it and injury is an unknown at this point.

Would prefer Mendoza between the two... has a better attitude, local guy, is likely cheaper, and would have him for at least 2 years to build around.

Better than Emory. So if that’s what it comes down to… I’m good.

I’ll be watching but it’ll be like when TVD was out there. Maybe a slightly lesser extent
