Carson Beck

But wait, we have a bunch of CIS geniuses who told me that he is soooo likely to go back to UGa.

For the record, I live in ATL, so I've heard plenty of anti-Beck sentiment from people up here for months.
you went from living in Orlando to Atlanta....!? no wonder your such a miserable fck

Beck makes a ton of sense. Kid needs to be grounded a bit and really hone in on football this next year. The NIL money I think got to him a bit this past year. I saw pics of him driving a ******* Lambo or something ridiculous.
Cut the extra curricular BS, get rid of the leg sleeve and concentrate on being the best football player you can be to maximize your draft status next year.

I think he is a strong candidate. All he needs is for one team to take a shot on college-to-pros for this to happen, he doesn't need to interview for five different jobs.

Right now, it's my primary hope in order for things to change rapidly within the next few weeks.

But imagine the huge ripples that would arise from trying to fill the job at Texas.
.... Just don't let it be the Raiders and I'm down lol.

You think he’s driving a Camry here?

When people say you shouldn't recruit QBs out of high school and just sign portal QBs every year this is the reason why that's a bad idea.
But when you recruit those QBs you have to actually play them, not just always say a portal guy is more experienced so we'll go with him. At CIS it seems a portal guy will always be better than the unproven ones we have.

They were very anti-Beck and they thought Stockton was going to be better.
Their receivers are mega garbage and their backs are just ok. Their tight ends are good not great. And bobo is a garbage OC. Kirby thought his recruiting could make anyone look good. Georgia lost Ladd and bowers and colbie young and Thomas got hit with charges

He'll have to really want to go NFL. Texas will offer a very, very large increase to get him to stay.

Possibly $15-$20M per year to stay.

Haven’t checked on Beck but other qb’s have reached out early on in the process .

At this point I take back all I said about Ewers and Beck. I would take either guy in a NY second and I apologize for speaking ill on both gentlemen. It’s likely both are gone but Beck is more realistic with the bum arm. His asking price is just a bit insane. If he were Cam then yeah sure.
You still think we end up taking somone?

Kirby gets $13M with 2 NCs. I doubt Sark gets a penny more than $15M for 1 NC.

It's not really about the money, anyhow. If a guy wants to try the NFL, he''ll try the NFL.

Dozens of other teams have signed Portal QBs already. Three of the final four teams start Portal QBs. All three AP All-American QBs - first, second and third team - came from the Portal.

The key is execution. We have two QBs on the roster signed out of high school. That’s not reassuring because HS recruiting is a crapshoot. The Portal is easier, but you still need to land the plane. Let’s hope they get it done.

To land the plane, you also have to take off first. I'm not against recruiting Portal QBs, but we don't have the luxury of time here.

There are way too many Portal QBs that we either (a) said "no" to right off the bat, or (b) said "not right now and/or not at that price" and are having a hard time circling back to at this late date.

At least last year, we made an EFFORT to speak to Will Rogers and Kyle McCord IN ADDITION TO Cam Ward. At some point, we went all-in with Ward, but it wasn't as early and obvious as it was with Mateer.

It's a little bit difficult to have faith in Texas Hold'Em Mario given the results this year.

In fairness.. that might not last much longer.

Using the current top 20, next year's QB will be:

1 Oregon - transfer
2 UGA - signed out of high school
3 Texas - signed out of high school
4 Penn State - signed out of high school
5 Notre Dame - signed out of high school
6 Ohio State - signed out of high school *
7 Tennessee - signed out of high school
8 Indiana - transfer
9 Boise - signed out of high school
10 SMU - signed out of high school

11 Alabama - signed out of high school
12 Arizona State - transfer
13 Miami - transfer
14 Ole Miss - signed out of high school
15 South Carolina - signed out of high school
16 Clemson - signed out of high school
17 BYU - signed out of high school
18 Iowa State - signed out of high school
19 Missouri - transfer
20 Illinois - transfer

*If Sayin wins the job, he was technically a transfer (transferred 11 days after enrolling at Alabama)

That's a lot of teams going with a guy they signed out of high school.

Swap ASU to transfer with Leavitt & Ole Miss to HS with Austin Simmons.

I see Mario’s vision now. Wait for sark to move on and get arch manning. Mario’s living in 2085

Do we got anyone we are atleast in some form of discussion with?

A lack of portal QB lost us offensive portal talent this year and likely lost us Jeremiah Smith last year. You can say it's execution but I think this chaos and uncertainty is always inherent in the strategy. There are so many variables you have to navigate that prevent you from executing how you want.

What if your main target(s) doesn't have a bowl game until the end of December? And then all the offensive skill players jump in earlier in the month? When you try and sign a high school player in June how do you explain that you have no idea who the next QB is going to be when they finally join. What if your target decides to go pro? Or the school matches the offer? The negative outcomes, using this strategy, leave you with no room for recovery. If you miss you're done.

I think the reality is, wherever you go to get this player, you need a continuous parade of multi-year starters OR QBs in waiting that are obvious heirs. In June of 2025 you need to have the starter for August of 2026 on the roster. That was how it was always done in the past and I don't think it should change, the only difference is now you can use the portal to reach that situation, in addition to high school recruiting.

If a Cam Ward comes along in December, sure, go spend whatever is necessary to get him and manage the fallout in the QB room. But trying to get Cam Ward every year is insane, not the quality of player but the idea that it's either going to be a playoff run or struggling to make a bowl game.
