Carson Beck

This year. I would actually be hopeful, if a QB like Beck saw the 2025 roster and said, let’s fuc and it wasn’t about getting $2 million to do it. Not because I love the Beck option, but because he was about to go in the draft, from a powerhouse and should be smart enough to judge whether 2024 Miami can be duplicated or not.

I’m not sure I buy that we are better than UGA at all the positions he listed.
“Better WR room even with the loses” is a pretty bold statement…

I think Miami with everybody playing would absolutely beat UGA.

But in terms of individual units, Miami definitely doesn't have a better OL than Georgia.

RB is completely contingent on Martinez, if he comes back there's a legit argument to be made, but if he declares for the draft UGA would have the advantage in that department.
I think we had better OL and RBs this year, next year I dunno. UGA ran the ball 44% of the time this year (52% prior year). 31% of their yards were rushing yards (39% prior year). They had issues running the ball this year, and threw it a lot more despite having worse receivers who dropped the ball a ton. Obviously Beck/Bobo struggled a ton in the passing game this year. If he ends up coming here next year I bet our offense is closer to the 50/50 split between run and pass that we saw in Dawson's first year than what we saw this year (45run/55pass)

Jury has yet to return a verdict on this staff. Was 2024 a one hit wonder because of Cam? Will we be able to sustain it and get to the playoff?
Agree, no clue, maybe it was a Cam fluke, but let's not forget this was the first team Cam won 10 games with. Had something to do with the support staff, didn't it? While defense was a whiff, they stacked the offense well enough to be #1, not 2, not 10, not 15 - 1. To your point, will they be able to sustain it, and head to the playoffs, ****, let's win our **** conference already....Who knows, but sure AF Mario knows this is expectation, and all eyes are on him after the season we just had. Gotta imagine dude is in the kitchen.

A lot has to do with Bobo being a crap OC for them too. Statistically our O was solid year before too but TVD going full ****** with IT'S made us look far worse optically.

We also do some of this to ourselves:
- heading into 2022 - crowned TVD, crowned Gattis and the Avengers staff from Mario’s rolodex of coaches dying to coach for him (all out disaster)
- 2023 - get “held hostage” by TVD - somehow, use the Gattis scapegoat, bring in Dawson, and we go from “I’m going to end this ************ right now” vs A&M to WTF coming out of the bye week
- 2024 - we are Cam-tastic!!! But now lose Cam, X, George, Horton, Arroyo, Williams and our C and really our best OLman in Rivers.

To Beck - Bobo vs a bit of the unknown. But he can rehab with his lady friend and no one will ever know the injury report

I think their OL are at least comparable. The difference would be in the units they go against.
Which would you prefer

Miami OL against Georgia DL
or
Georgia OL against Miami DL

Even if the OL are somewhat comparable, the DL aren’t and it would make Georgia’s OL look much better in a matchup. Especially with the taking into account typical playcalling the defense uses.

Plenty of time on the clock. We were the #1 offense in the country with a first round QB. If Carson Beck believes in himself and thinks he’s a first round talent too, then he can look at Miami and see what kind of numbers he’ll put up in our system.

I agree, we need to bag up and get the best QB out there.
Agreed

Cam gets a lot of credit (and should obviously)

But when Dawson got here we jumped from the most historically awful offense I’ve seen here to top 25-30 in one year with essentially the same players even with our starting QB **** near unable to complete a forward pass for stretches

Lots of questions up in the air but I’m optimistic

I think a lot are missing the point with this Beck vs Emory thing.
For me, yes, I would take Beck over Emory.
But, it's the fact that we had better options out there before it came down to this conversation of what-ifs.

We went all in on Mateer, but.... we could've just rolled with trying to get Jackson Arnold or Mensah on board, but now all of the good options are gone and now we are hypothetically saying it's possible it could be Carson Beck, who, IMO, is a TVD on steroids with an injury.
Yes, I would take Beck over Emory, but I'm mad it's now coming down to that possibility, after seeing all the better QB fits for this system already finding homes.
I think most need to look at perspectives rather thinking we actually wasn't Emory over Beck.

I'm mad it came down to this.

I was down to gamble on Arnold too, but it would have been a massive gamble as he was not good at all this year. Bigger gamble than Beck coming off his injury I think too. No idea if we reached out or not, but it's possible he had zero desire to play outside the SEC. On Mensah, I cooled on him the more I saw him play. You have to realize that he's not only jumping from G5 to P4, but he was also protected a ton by his play-caller. Tulane ran the ball ~62% of the time, which is 6th most in the county outside the Service Academies. He has nice numbers, but he wasn't asked to do much, and his WRs were former P4 players who had a talent advantage over G5 guys. I suspect he's going to struggle, at least initially in the ACC, especially if Duke doesn't have a really strong run game.

Outside of Mateer there isn't a QB who went in the portal that I'm big mad we didn't pursue. As I said last night, I'm willing to let it play out and see who we get before I get mad about the process. There's guys who went in the portal who I'd have been fine taking (Chandler Morris), ok but not excited taking (Miller Moss/Mendoza), and guys that I highly doubt we couldn't have induced to portal considering the year Cam just had that I think would do well here (Behren Morton/Gio Lopez/etc).

EDIT: There's also another group of QBs - Robertson/Hoover/Sorsby - perhaps Morton should be included since TTU in Big12 also and they're spending a ton in the portal, that I'd take over anyone but Mateer who's been in the portal who I think should find Miami more attractive than where they're at in the Big12. I think the ACC while below the P2 is a step above the Big12, perhaps the players don't think so? We got 2 in playoff (now out), they got 1 but got a bye.

Beck if healthy surrounded by weapons should be good but definitely A LOT of what ifs. Our OL should be fine + the girlfriend being here gives an advantage in consideration towards us.

I think Miami will have as many as 5 OL from this group play in the NFL at some point. They are as good as any line in America.

Washington State was 12-13 during Cam’s tenure, with the 71st and 53rd ranked scoring offenses in America. This was despite having Cam Ward and high-level college WRs like Josh Kelly, Kyle Williams and De’Zhaun Stribling.

The reason Cam Ward made such a leap is our offensive line and running game. He’d tell you himself. Tough and physical still works.

In what Universe does Miami have a better OL & better RB's than UGA?
The one where dr. Strange makes a new universe where Terry porter never throws a flag. We win a sixth national title and our program goes the trajectory OSU has followed for almost 25 years and their program follows our trajectory. Fingers crossed marvel makes it happen for us 🙏🏽

Maybe make a nfl roster but outside of rivers and francis i don’t see a for sure nfl player here

Very optimistic. First, where is the game played? Forget it if in Athens.
This year, Miami’s offensive line is better. Down year for Georgia upfront and also set back by injuries.
Miami also probably has better RBs, but Georgia’s front and LBs negate any advantage. Georgia’s RBs will performer better against Miami defense.
Difference in the potential outcome is Georgia’s defense vs. Miami’s D. Kirby will find ways to slow or get an occasional stop. Guidry’s D isn’t worth discussing.

This season will be one of the biggest “what-ifs” in our programs history. Even if we had even an average defense, we’d definitely make a deep playoff run and likely have a chance to compete in a national championship

How many drafted before Day 3? Maybe 1

Damien Martinez 145 Carries 823 yards 5.7YPC
Mark Fletcher 100 Carries 545 yards 5.4YPC
Jordan Lyle 45 Carries 366 Yards 8.1YPC

Nate Frazier 129 Carries 634 yards 4.9AVG
Trevor Etienne 111 Carries 571 yards 5.1AVG
Brandon Robinson 25 Carries 73 yards 2.9AVG
SEC defense vs ACC defense....rush defense yeah I'm a hurricane through and through but RB is equal or slightly tilted towards SEC.
