Carson Beck

people forget that most of our big wins in the Erickson era was keyed by the defense. Even the 2001 juggernaut had a game like BC (where the offense stalled)

It's really a shame Damien Martinez is gone, he would've had a monster 25 for UM...

Lol you are assuming CMC wouldn't have found a way to give Fletcher more snaps and carries

Yes because they had a nearly 11 minute drive. They ran for 150 of those 271 yards on the first drive and the long one. I'm not saying the defense was world beaters in that game, but they got off the field enough that we should have easily won the game had the offense played anything like they did the rest of the year.

We averaged .59 pts/play on the year, on the 38 plays after those 5 stops against GTech we averaged .26 pts/play.

yeah, all valid points. I also remember a key 3rd and 17 late in the game they converted. This defense was bad this game and was for much of the year from Vatech on

I still say that the key play of the Gatech was not giving it to Damien Martinez on 4th and 1 on that opening possession of the 2nd half. And then there were FG attempts that were bypassed

then add the Pop Tart bowl, Iowa State goes in motion and you can see our back 7 was so confused. They were yelling at each other at who covers the guy on motion. That's been happening since the South Fla game.
Yep. It’s amazing.

When I would put together a gameplan, literally the first question I ask is “How do they handle motion”

I have a wild idea , how about we play complimentary football ? Balanced offense that moves the ball and a defense that gets stops. Offense takes a step or two back but the defense will absolutely take a couple forward. That unit went from a weakness to a strength. Add Xavier and it’s a deep , playoff caliber secondary.
Defense still could use some more help. Think we still need a LB that just eats up the middle and is a tackle machine. Probably could use another DT (most of the depth we’re hoping is ready to play) and another DE. But the secondary has improved a lot

But this is a big part of the reason I'm bullish on the defense getting fixed next year, if we get a DC who brings a smart, disciplined defense and can teach it to our Einsteins.

Most teams don't give up a 1st down or more whenever the offense puts a guy in motion like we did. Most teams manage to get lined up and don't bust (pause) at the rate our defense did.

So much of what was wrong with our defense had little to do with talent/the other team being bigger, faster, stronger. We couldn't line up and multiple guys had no idea what they were supposed to do. This happened regularly. Seems fixable, and we've upgraded the talent on the back end and found a replacement for Barrow at DT.

Assuming the do not contact tag means teams can't contact him?

Which means he has a deal in place?

Which we means.... we fcking?

I mean I think it more means he has to make first contact and then they can respond, not that they literally can't talk to him at all.

The qb situation is taking the eyes off the bigger decision
And that’s who is the dc
We had the best qb, arguably the best player this year
And the number 1 offense
And the defense was so bad we wasted a national championship caliber offense
We couldn’t even name the acc championship
That’s how atrocious the defense was
We dramatically improved the biggest position of deficiency on the D. Even an average DC should field a decent defense. Not expecting top 5, but top 25 scoring defense vs the top 60-70 we had last year gets us 10 wins if the offense is good

Pretty much every post on X sayin he comin to Miami no contact tag. Makes sense we need a qb looks like we got em! I want Jeremiah Smith so gd bad!!! Him an Jojo again omg think Carr gonna snatch that slot spot from Ray Ray too

My almost worthless 2 cents, he's obviously got experience & talent, but I can't get too excited as the games I watched of him this year, objectively he stunk.

Absolutely not true about Wash St as evidenced by half their team leaving this year to P4 teams.

You are literally just tossing out your opinion of a guy that played one year against G5 competition vs a guy that played the toughest schedule in college football the last two years.

Opinions are like ******** ... everybody has one.
As a fellow *******, welcome to the club, ******* (i want to be clear this is in jest)

I do agree with with @TwentySix Mateer > Beck. That’s not necessarily putting Beck down saying that.

Mateer has that shortstop like gamer to him. He’s got an arm similar to Ward where he will hit different slots and angles and then he will make you pay with his legs which I always want a QB to be able to do.

However, Beck instantly improves the ‘25 season outlook from 7 wins at best to a potential double digit win team again assuming the defense is fixed

luke gets qb1 reps all spring, emory transfers, we roll with beck this year and luke getting some reps in garbage time

2026 is luke's show

a few weeks ago we said it's results-based business - Mario would be crucified for his handling of QB situation or praised - welp, looks like he handled it perfectly at this point in my opinion
