Cam = Best QB in UM history?

Cam would’ve won Buffalo at least one Super Bowl

I kid. But this whole “it’s only been 3 games” thing, you guys know he’s not a true freshman, right? There’s plenty of tape for you to go watch.

He’s not going to go down as the greatest QB in Miami history regardless of what happens, he’s only playing here for one year. Same way Kawhi Leonard isn’t the greatest Raptor of all time, but he’s the best.

You can't cross the game over decades so you can't compare him to our 80's QB's. Cam is great and while I expect to win the ACC, this team is not winning the NC. Always remember Jim Kelly is a first ballot NFL HOFer. 1st ballot!
He's still the bar for me - he played in a modern offense for that era with more passing than the rest of CFB, but imagine what he could do in today's offenses. I think too many people here didn't get to see him play...I was so young, but I remember. Anyone who hasn't seen him play, go check out some old Kelly games on YouTube.

Cam could well be up there though. His competition has been weak so far, but his game is passing the eye test. Let's see what he does against the ACC,

#1 he must win a national title-Talent wise from a physical standpoint he’s right there with Vinny Testaverde who was athletic, could run and had a cannon for an arm but, I think Cam is more athletic-

it’s way to early he has a long way to go.
Out of our past QBs, he definitely reminds me the most of Vinny.

That would be great and hope Cam becomes the best ever QB. Got to win a NC. So far he is the most electric leading the Heisman race. A lot of great QBs and teams years ago. Time for another run starting with Cam.

Ken Dorsey went 38-2 as a starter, undefeated against FSU and won the 2001 National Championship. Got screwed over in the 2002 game and the 2000 season. Could have gone 3 NCs.

Gino Torreta was 26-1 as a starter winning the 1991 NC and winning Heisman trophy the next year losing the 1992 NC game.

Craig Erickson was went 11-1 winning the 1989 NC

Steve Walsh was 23-1 as a starter winning the 1987 NC with a undefeated team and got screwed over by a blown call the next year against ND. Miami was clearly a better team in 1988.

Vinney Testaverde had a great season 11-1 winning the 1986 Heisman Trophy and then crashing his motor scooter a week before the NC game throwing 5 interceptions losing the game. Had a bad feeling about that crash and his Heisman tour.

Bernie Kosar went 11-1 winning UMs first NC in 1983 and in 1984, he set Hurricane season records with 3,642 yards and 25 touchdowns

Jim Kelly probably was the most talented and became an important piece in Schnellenberger's effort to build the program into one of the nation's best starting UM's football tradition. Kelly had a great year in 1981 going 9-2 beating No. 1 Penn St, No. 17 Florida and No. 14 Florida St. If I can remember right, both loses is where Miami got some bad phantom calls costing them both games against ranked Texas and Miss St. UM was ranked No. 8 at the end of the year. In 1982 Kelly blew out his shoulder in the third game of the year getting tackled from behind. Could have been a really good year for him. Testaverda and Kosar were on that team as well. QBU

UM top ten QB season yards.

1 Bernie Kosar 3,642 1984

4 Craig Erickson 3,363 1990
5 Jacory Harris 3,352 2009
6 Stephen Morris 3,345 2012
7 Vinny Testaverde 3,238 1985
8 Brad Kaaya 3,238 2015
9 Brad Kaaya 3,198 2014

10 Malik Rosier 3,120 2017

My yes has nothing to do with the first three games. My yes has everything to do with when I first saw his film. I don’t watch too many teams so I had no idea who tf this was. But that film was next level pro bowl type sh and a lot of qbs in the pros can’t do the things he does, let that sink in. There are pro players right now (a lot of pros) that can’t do the things he does let alone make the throws he can.

I agree its literally been 3 games vs probably the worst 3 teams on our schedule but i think he’s very clearly the best talent we have had at QB. He has to continue this level of play vs better teams and i think he will

People mentioning what teams our QBs from the past beat as if they didn’t play on our greatest teams, wins are not a QB statWe are seeing clear proof of that now because cam is doing what he has always done but he has a way better team than his last spot

Also this is what i said before he played a single down here

WOW ,
I understand the jubilation for sure but considering the company you’re putting him in isn’t fair to Cam .

Let Cam play his game and take us to the land of rings and all this to be evaluated than.

Just approaching the QB door of rings or even attempt to knock , naw let it play out before any coronations .

I’m with you though being excited

Think about those numbers from Bernie in ‘84 and Vinnie in ‘85. No one was doing that at the time and that’s what gave us an edge

Not going there yet. I was born in 1977 so i know better.

With that said, I literally forgot what a top level quarterback looks like at UM until now and I just don’t know how we are going to go from this to Emory, who I like. Lol

Quote from Mario’s interview this is what makes the guy different to me. Truly blessed to have him this year

Why? Miami has all-time greats at a lot of positions. Greatest safety of all time, one of the greatest linebackers of all time, etc.

Quarterback? Not really. Not being negative, just real. Who have we had?

Brad Kaaya
Stephen Morris
Kyle Wright
Jacory Harris
Kirby Freeman
Malik Rosier
Robert Marve
Brock Berlin
Jacurri Brown
Bernie Kosar
Craig Erickson
George Mira
Gino Torretta
Jim Kelly
Ken Dorsey
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Steve Walsh
Vinny Testaverde

Of those, only Kosar, Toretta, Kelly, Dorsey, Walsh, Erickson and Testaverde really bear mentioning.

Kosar was an average NFL QB in the NFL for the Browns. Ditto for Testaverde, who was a journeyman for the Bucs, Jets, and a bunch of other teams. Toretta was a career backup. Dorsey was a poor man's Toretta. Walsh was a poor man's Dorsey.

Jim Kelly is the best of the bunch. But even in his time in the NFL, he never won a Super Bowl, despite being on one of the most loaded teams of all time. He played in the league at the same time as Joe Montana, Steve Young, John Elway, Dan Marino, Warren Moon, Randell Cunningham.... and he was worse than all of them. Nobody talks about Jim Kelly in the same breath as Montana, Elway, or Marino. (BTW, Jesus Christ there were some great QBs playing football at that time)

Anyway, the point is that all Miami has ever produced at the QB spot is average NFL talent, and that is even when we were QBU. We've NEVER produced talent at QB like we have at other positions.

Cam Ward is that kind of top level talent. Why? Because he has the work ethic of Ken Dorsey mixed with his physical talent of Vinny Testaverde. He has all the mindset and the tools to be greater than any of those QBs and become one of the greatest.

I get not wanting to crown him yet but we're talking about a man who goes to the Hecht every day at 5:30 in the morning to watch film and stays late at every practice working with his receivers. You mix that kind of work ethic with his physical tools and demeanor and I'll bet on that every day of the week. He's gonna be a superstar.

0% chance you've seen all these guys play, respectfully. You have two Heisman winners on that list, and Dorsey who should have at least one. Most programs would have murdered their entire English departments to have any one of those guys, and that's with you leaving off George Mira, who was ahead of his time and an All-American in his day. You're also quite casual about Kelly who is a HOF and made it four Super Bowls, more than Marino (who also never won one). It doesn't matter what these guys did in the NFL, this about their tenure as college QBs at UM-- several of them won NCs while setting and breaking each other's records. The bar is incredibly high.

Research Jim Kelly.

By the way, only the 1990 Bills team should have won the Super Bowl (and they really should have).

The rest of those runner up teams were totally outclassed by their opponent.
