How many spots do we even have available? By my count if Jaden Davis commits that gives Miami 82 guys assuming Ragone is still on scholarship...has the transfer portal window closed for anymore of our guys to leave?

Relax. We might not even hit 85.

A lot of people are assuming certain guys will return. For instance, people keep mentioning Peyton Matocha without actually checking to see if he's on the roster (he's not).

Stop worrying about Ragone.

DJ Ivey getting drafted is further proof that that our coaching has been horrific for the better part of the last two decades

So, does that mean ivey wasn't a jag?...cuz film don't lie especially against mtsu!
To be fair, and in line with your point it could be a bad NFL evaluation, too.

But why did a higher level of football and generally scouting, etc. think he was worth a pick (albeit a very low one) despite having games like MTSU or horrible special teams errors while he was here?

Could it have been he had terrible coaching and development and they project him to be relatively more productive there once you adjust for coaching and development differences?

Bret Bielema and Illinois, who just dominated the NFL draft at DB sure seem to want Jaden Davis badly.

2023 NFL Draft Picks - Illinois

Devon Witherspoon, DB, Seattle (1st, 5)
Jartavius Martin, DB, Washington (2nd, 47)
Sydney Brown, DB, Philadelphia (3rd, 66)
You can certainly claim that the current staff had a hand in their development but it was Lovie Smith’s staff that get all the credit for the evals and some development as all three were 2019 kids.

For 3 straight seasons, Jaden Davis had a strong camp at OU, began the season as the starter, got torched in coverage once actual games were played, and then was benched.

Technically last year was *slightly* different as he played poorly yet again before suffering a minor injury. He was replaced in the lineup by a super senior and former low 3* transfer from Wyoming in C.J. Coldon who clearly outplayed Davis and kept the starting job when Davis was healthy again.

If we land 1 or 2 other higher-caliber CB's in the portal, then this won't matter as anything more than emergency depth. But ideally, we'll be able to land a much better CB via the portal to pair with Davonte Brown.

So basically we're getting a smaller DJ Ivey.

He’s very very bad. I’m not often critical of kids like that but I don’t understand the take. I was front row for a lot of his practices and I don’t know how he ended up a D1 player. Small and slow
Objectivity is frowned upon here. Im actually more excited about the spin we are about to get about how adding him is important to depth and specials. We are better at the spin cycle than CNN and Fox News combined

I'm perplexed by the Davis love as well. But the thing is, Guidry knows DBs. And if he thinks Davis adds to his CB room despite being very similar to Couch, Roberts, Porter and Curtis ... well, he obviously believes Davis is either as good as them or more likely better than them. Given Couch and Porter started last year, I expect that means we're getting an upgrade in Davis, even if it's not a Tier 1 upgrade, and Guidry has a plan on how to use him. Even incremental improvement is better than no improvement. Just keep stacking.
Guidry can know db all he wants but he coached at Marshall and Jaden Davis is around in line of that level of talent.(group of 5).

Its similar to when Al Golden and No Frio came here and were salivating and evaluating based off of their TEMPLE kids who were elite at playing safety.

If thats all you know yea.....

We have posters that have seen Jaden Davis since high school....seen him at OU..etc...

My opinion is Jaden Davis is in the same line of talent of Couch, Roberts, Porter, Curtis...i have Porter better than all of em.....but they are about the same player he just has playing experience.

I personally would rather see what CurtiS, Graves, Davis does before I would bring him in but im thinking they value playing experience highly no matter if it isnt all that. Also he is local and from STA/ Dillard so i guess that is also a draw for them.

The other take was Brown and Roberts already soooooooo.......

they may be 1-3 out the gate.....

if we need to bring in 4 portal cbs then at some point just coach up the hs guys you brought in and let them play.
Roberts was never a straight cb, he was going to get time at safety and nickel cb. After spring I’ll just say st’s lol, which he is a great st’s player.

I told y’all **** near two weeks ago Davis was coming but now the freak out is starting? What’s the sense in prepping you nut jobs ? He’s a depth and rotational type player. That’ll play some st’s.
Dig up that post! Want to see if I liked it or not. Lol

If it's any consolation, I listened to you and was ambivalent about the decision and still am.

I'm just a fan of the program. The staff has their reputation and livelihoods staked on it, so I might as well sit back and watch.

I think they've made it clear they are more than happy to take a transfer with SFLA roots if they can be depth or better. To me, it looks like they are trying to tell everyone that Miami has a home for you and you should have stayed home to begin with. (Regardless if you're a 5 star or not)

Board forgets we are coming off a 5-7 season. Thinks we're going to get errbody. Depth is something we don't have.
