Barry jackson sports buzz: my proof the defense quit

3 inept coaching staffs and 10+ years of mediocrity will do that.

we're jumping the gun a bit on the proclamations of ineptness of this staff... recruiting has gone well, our record has continued to improve... all this with NCAA crap going on.. I think we'll have more of an idea next season.. al's first "real" class will be juniors, even though we're breaking in a new QB, if we can at the very least match this seasons record and gt a bowl win..i'll be on board.. now if he pulls a randy and loses a 2 or 3 more games than we did last year, that's a different story

oh, and we have evidence that Al and D'onof can put together a solid defense.. which buys them time/credibility.

Perfect example of lowered expectations. The bar has reached epic lows.

Last season, the goal was winning the ACC Coastal and compete for the ACC 'ship. Now the expectations are... Don't be worse than last year.

This is how it happens. New fans, who have known nothing but losing, replace old fans, who still have high expectations but are withering in their numbers compared to the new breed.

Before you know it, all the guys who demand greatness from the team get drowned out, and the zombies and mummies take over. That bar keeps dipping every year. You're seeing it now with the "we improved we won 9 games" crowd. 9 wins used to get you fired here. Erickson lost 2 games his first year here, and fans were killing him. They wanted him dead.

Man, I don't know if this can survive 8 months of both sides posting the exact same crap over and over and over and over again. This is far behind the usual repetitive things on message boards.

Its like you are all working at the mcdonalds drive through, having to repeat "do you want to supersize that".

Here you go, feel better now?

Ladies and gentleman, this is our mastermind defensive coach Golden. How do people look at this entire body of work and really expect that next year, things are going to click? Year 4 is the magic year I have heard. Funny how at UVA, Golden regressed back to the mean the next year. This is the very definition of an outlier. I never thought it was logical to make arguments based on outliers but apparently on CIS, it is.

I'm sure it's just a coincidence we have been able to recruit every position other than DT

Your boy was saying this all last summer, remember? But no, a recruit cannot possibly have eyes and determine that this system is crap for the type of talent he has and the style that he plays.

with guys he recruited.

Total Defenses of the BCS-era Champions
1998 Tennessee - 17th
1999 FSU - 19th
2000 OU - 8th
2001 Miami - 6th
2002 * - 23rd
2003 LSU - 1st
2004 USC - 6th
2005 Texas - 10th
2006 Florida - 6th
2007 LSU - 3rd
2008 Florida - 9th
2009 Alabama - 2nd
2010 Auburn - 60th
2011 Alabama - 1st
2012 Alabama - 5th
2013 - FSU - 3rd

So based on the stats that WTH posted, we better hope we have a Cam Newton in Kaaya or our defense isn't going to be sufficient to compete for a title in a very, very long time.

If BFP Golden had the ability to fix the defense, don't you think he would have done it by now? Defense is supposedly his specialty. Yet, he's been standing there like a big helpless lummox for 3 years as opponents have gashed us unmercifully. If he had a cure, he would have administered it by now. Instead, we have gotten progressively worse culminating in the most embarrassing performance of all in the Rustled Bowl.

BFP Golden has no answers. His answer was to try to run away to Assy Valley.

it has nothing to with lowered expectations.. it has to do with having perspective... before this season this was a 8-9 win team... we started off 7-0 and all of a sudden people changed their predictions for the season.. sure, we lost some that we didn't think we'd lose (duke namely, but that was a pretty good duke team).. and we won some that we probably didn't think we'd win ( UF)... that shouldn't change the fact that before the season.. this was going to be an 8-9 win team.. does it suck we didn't compete for the acc title, of course.. does it suck that we didn't even have a good showing in the bowl game, of course.. but that doesn't change anything. we were exactly what everyone before the season thought we'd be, a 3-4 loss team. it came to fruition, and everyone is acting like the world is crumbling..

i didn't realize the recruiting coordinator had final say in who got recruited.. we're giving brennan carroll a lot of power over our classes.. al and donof were responsible for the defense at temple.. the results speak for themselves.

I don't know what universe you live in...but recruiting has not gone "well".

Wayyyyyy too much elite talent is still leaving south florida. I'm fully aware you can't get them all...but this year is a perfect example. In a year where South Florida was LOADED we've got a class which is better described as QUANTITY instead of quality.

Spare me the Golden apologists defense dude.....the ONE thing he's suppose to be good at (recruiting) he isn't excelling at.

"But he's had good classes"...well guess what...when you're coaches are horrible at gameplanning and making gameday adjustments, "good" isn't going to cut it. This staff needs ELITE players to have a chance.

lol at "new fans".. some people just have perspective... we're not the U of that we all remember..especially not after coker and shannon ran roughshod through our program.. it's stupid to have that same expectation that we had for our great teams, especially after 2 recruiting classes.. 9 wins gets you fired when you inherit a team that just won a title, or has great seasons for a few years.. 9 wins doesn't get you fired when you're rebuilding what coker and shannon ruined... we need to stop acting like this is the season right after butch left and Al inherited a monster.. we haven't won a bowl game in how many years? when's the last time we had 10 wins? some how al golden is supposed to come in here and have is winning 11 - 12 games when his first real class aren't even juniors yet? please.
