Don't know if it's just me... I like him as a recruiter, but Coley's credentials aren't the best as an OC. He's basically has been Jimbo's information gatherer. He hasn't called plays since doing so for 1-11 FIU team.

Guys, I just think UM could do alot better for an OC.

Sounds like a win-win for Coley, but an overpayment on our behalf for another Patrick Nix if you ask me...

Fiu talent<Um talent

Nix had Shannon running the show for Gods sake, he never built off that 08 class and let alot of kids escape. Also wanted no goons at all, Coley can run the offense if this staff shuts down SFLA and we can out athlete everyone in the country. I mean Cokey coached a title team Coker......think about it Coker.....sit there and let that sink in.

I get that FSU is his alma mater, but if he wants to advance in coaching, loyalty to your school isn't really a plausible option until you're an all world head coach.

Jimbo knows his 2013 class is ruined without Coley. He will probably lie to Coley's face to get him to stay.

BINGO.

Jimbo will do ANYTHING to Keep Coley at this point, at least for another year. After that he can kick him to the curb. He needs him to close out the recruiting class.

Agree with Franchise and I said it in another thread, if we havent had official word within a few hours, this isnt happening. IM sure Golden gave him a tight deadline. This cannot be allowed to drag on for more than about 24 hours.

It has to be a tough call for Coley. ITs his alma mmater, which is why Im so dubious about all this. Then again, it takes him almost leaving before JImbo offers him concessions? Has to make him wonder if its just to placate him temporarily for the sake of recruiting. IF he passes up this offer, he's at Jimbo's mercy for the next year.

The guy grew up accross the street from the OB....literally. I am sure he loves FSU, but I am pretty sure he has some strong feelings about Miami.

That angle about him being an FSU alum don't mean squat. Why? Because him being from South Florida didn't keep him from going to FSU

If he loves his alma mater like I do mine it'll MOST DEFINITELY play some factor in his decision. He might not trust Jimbutt at this point.

Yea but if he grew up a UM fan it doesnt matter where u graduated from or went to school. Im sure there people who attend fsu that like Um but couldnt get in. Same with some UM people like fsu who knows if UM was his first love.

This is a VERY fair point, and worth discussing. I also have a bad "Patrick Nix" feeling about this. I dont want us to get so caught up in sticking it to FSU and just doing this to win a few recruits, that we ignore the resume. But I do trust Golden a **** of a lot more than I trusted Shannon. Someone somewhere must think pretty highly of the guy, so all we can do is hope for the best, IF he ends up being the guy.

And if you dig around the front page you will see that every point of concern has been discussed pretty thoroughly. Obviously there is a level of unknown that we will not get answers to until we see him as OC with our own eyes

No it isn;t.

He will have full control of offense in Miami.

Jimbo might let him call plays but he will never have full control. It will always be Jimbo's offense.

Its not a lateral move any way you slice it.

It is if Jimbo basically gives him everything he wants.

What makes you think he is going to have any more "Full control" here than that? You think Al Golden is going to let this guy come in here and have NO say on what kind of offese our team runs? Its not like this guy is some 20 year OC or NFL OC. This is still Al Golden's team. Im sure they offered Coley much more control, or at least the TRADITIONAL control that an OC would have over a team's offense, but that doesnt mean Golden is going to hand this guy the keys to the castle any more than Jimbo would. OC's generally play call, design plays, and gameplan. But an HC is often involved in deciding what kind of offense a team runs from a strategic and philosophical standpoint. Im not for one moment convinced that Golden is just going to let this guy do whatever he wants. He will have more "traditional" control over the offense as an OC here, at least from what he did, but Im not buying that Golden is not goign to have some input into what kind of offense we run. Maybe not as much as Jimbo would meddle, but is it enough to sway Coley is the real question.

I'm not saying he doesn't love FSU, but people go away for different reasons....I am just saying he grew up a UM fan, and it's not like he despises the program the way we despise FSU.

1....and he was terrible at Minnesota.

Question, how many years of play calling experience did JED have before coming to The U?

Your missing the point with Jedd though, he had 5+ years of NFL experience and was one of the rising coaches in the NFL. Why this keeps getting overlooked(mainly by you) is mind boggling. I think Jedd's experience helped him be successful as an OC which is why you see him at the Jaguars now. Coley is still a TBD, not saying he won't be successful but I would have more confidence if his resume was better.

Every possible point of concern regarding this whole situation has been discussed pretty thoroughly. I didnt mean to suggest we needed to start a NEW discussion about it, I was imply agreeing with the post that its worth discussing/valid concern.

But we dont know that he grew up a UM fan. Yes he grew up close to the OB, but there are lots of people who grew up and live in Miami who ended up at UF or FSU and root for those teams over the Canes. Trecherous filthy scumbags that they are.

Where you went to school for 4 years and graduated doesn't matter? I gotta respectfully disagree on a huge scale with this.

BUT, let's say his goal is head coach at FSU . . . . What's the best road?

A. Being the OC at FSU when Jimbo leaves (keeping in mind he could've voluntarilly left for a number of schools this year)

B. Being the OC at Miami when Jimbo leaves FSU

Option A requires more faith in things Coley cannot control
Option B requires more faith in his own abilities

All this is great but if we don't get someone who can develope qbs worth a **** our offense will put up fsu like results. Ton of talent with average QB play.
Agreed. That is a concern of mine as well with regards to Coley.

FSU puts up FSU results because of Jimbo. It all trickles down from Jimbo.

Golden will get more out of the same group than Jimbo ever could.

Not everyone has such a fierce loyalty to their alma mater like Hurricanes do.

Yea exactly everyone that has went there says its different and u can feel that its different by looking at the bonds and the way kids come back. It is different and multiple programs have copied like Bama and USC trying to be a family type of thing. No one does like UM though.

THIS I can agree on
