Ohio state, usc, miami all investigated. Funny that all 3 have won national championships in the past 13 years.

Yup. How intredasting that the NCAA goes harsh on the two private universities other than ND that are truly relevant in FB. OSU* is hard to call either way, because they pretty much stepped in it and didn't get that hard penalties and got a quick resolution. Not sure there was a conspiracy against them.

I don't know the history of ncaa penalties, but it sure does seem like private universities are the only ones that really get hammered. I guess the NCAA doesn't want to mess with the big public state universities where such penalties may cost a state money or rile up politicians that could cause headaches for the NCAA. Pedo State would be the obvious exception, but that was a case unlike any other.

If the NCAA messed with Abalama like this, folks would start dying in car accidents.

Bama has had their share of NCAA run ins. Supposedly, they were one vote away from the Death Penalty the last time they got hit in 2002. For that one they got like 20-21 scholly's and either a 1 or 2 year post season ban. They also got a post season ban and about 15-16 scholly's in the 90's.

But the difference between Bama now and Bama in the early 2000's is that then they were a joke of a program and weren't making the NCAA 100's of millions of dollars like they are now.

That's what people have been saying for months Latin. "No way we get LOIC, no one would cooperate ever again", is what we told ourselves. No one is going to cooperate now in the future. The next time a school gets in the NCAA's crosshairs, it's gonna be Obstruction City and every school after that will follow suit.

Anybody saying we weren't going to get LOIC wasn't thinking clearly. UCF got LOIC and they received a 1 year bowl ban as punishment. Boise got LOIC, and the received a 9 scholarship reduction as punishment. In self-imposing a 2 year bowl ban, along with some self imposed scholarship reductions, it's obvious to anybody paying attention that the UM administration expected LOIC. Why else would we self impose sanctions more harsh than some institutions recently received for LOIC if we didn't expect to get LOIC?

It's all about the COI. Enforcement should make the allegations they feel the investigation warrants. It' the COI that would show leniency based on cooperation.

I don't think the NCAA really cares about the argument, "if we don't get credit for cooperating, why would anyone else cooperate in the future?". This is the group that pays convicted felons, uses disposable cellphones, intimidates witnesses, sends letters stating that "if you don't talk, you're guilty". And they care if a school cooperates? LOL. People are really overestimating the significance of cooperating with that organization.

I think its safe to say when this investigation started 2.5 years ago Emerett handed a letter to the investigators that read "LOIC for Miami" and said put bunch of stuff under it and take your time with it

I think you're right.

We were going to get LOIC the moment Charles Robinson dropped his report.

Because the NCAA is too stupid and spineless to follow procedure and some modicum of due process, concluding, for example, that:

"A number of serious allegations were made against the University of Miami, and after a lengthy and thorough investigation, the NCAA has determined that those reports were sensationalized, or, at the least, Mr. Shapiro's claims cannot be convincingly corroborated. We cannot blindly take the word of a convict, one who has stated publicly his intention of enacting revenge on the institution in question, and we believe that is a fair and reasonable standard. We did, however, in our investigation, discover a wealth of lesser infractions, detailed below."

Then the NCAA tells us about the Benihana and the Martin free rides, and charges us with Failure to Monitor, and everyone wins. And the truth, or at least the most reliable version of it I can determine from this mess, would be out there.

Charles Robinson ‏@CharlesRobinson NCAA Committee On Infractions informed UM & coaches it wants to move expeditiously & have the UM case hearing on June 14-16 in Indianapolis.

So basically if Miami meets them in June you can say **** off to another year of recruiting for Golden & company as the COI can take as long as they want to decide. My question is, if Miami responds to the NOA next week will it still be June before there is a meeting with the COI???

So if UM goes before infractions in June, it likely would get its penalty sometime between August and October. If it appeals, the process could stretch for another six months beyond that.

“It seems president Shalala will be unhappy even if there is a settlement [of very little additional punishment] because of what happened in the process,” Potuto said. “I can understand her being unhappy with the time it took to get the case ready to go. I don’t think there’s any real good answer that’s going to satisfy all the parties.”
