Yup. How intredasting that the NCAA goes harsh on the two private universities other than ND that are truly relevant in FB. OSU* is hard to call either way, because they pretty much stepped in it and didn't get that hard penalties and got a quick resolution. Not sure there was a conspiracy against them.

I don't know the history of ncaa penalties, but it sure does seem like private universities are the only ones that really get hammered. I guess the NCAA doesn't want to mess with the big public state universities where such penalties may cost a state money or rile up politicians that could cause headaches for the NCAA. Pedo State would be the obvious exception, but that was a case unlike any other.
 
We should sue Haith, Hill, Hurt, Shannon (on general principals and for bringing these guys in and allowing them to **** us), Dee, etal. Seriously. Start a precedent for civil action.

Auburn got hammered pretty good in the 90's. Them cats had to forfeit TV for a year. Now that hurts.

and the NCAA still handing down severe allegations against UM, why cooperate? Why not just let the NCAA do their investigation without any assistance by UM? If UM reached out to alumni that were untouchable under NCAA jurisdiction and these people disclosed damaging information, then why would any university going forth want to cooperate with the NCAA? If UM bent over backwards to weave their rope to hang themselves, then I don't see any other universities going forward, openly cooperate with the NCAA. If USC got punished for not being forthcoming and UM is going to get hammered for being forthcoming, then why make it worse by snitching on yourself? Some of these allegations go back ten years so there really is no way to verify this stuff without UM's help. That letter sent to alumni to cooperate or else, looking back was just a terrible idea. I know that Golden said that the way UM was cooperating should be an example of how to handle an investigation, but looking back it's almost an example of what not to do. Thoughts?
 
Of course they want to draw out the process. Right now they are losing in a landslide in the court of public opinion.
 
We handled this thing perfectly. Period.

Look at it this way...let's say we didn't cooperate and didn't self-impose any penalties. Ultimately we'd still be looking at the same charges (LOIC). And we'd be punished at least as much as what we've already served. But any penalties wouldn't go into effect until next year, and would last for another 2-4 years, which would draw this thing out until 2016 or so...on top of being a pain in our *** for the past 3 years and hampering our recruiting efforts over that time.

PLUS, we'd lose all hand. The public support that we've got right now would be greatly diminished. People would still say we need to fry, and we probably would.

The NCAA hasn't handed down anything yet. The punishment still has to be determined and the committee who handles that could decide that the report is off base and/or we have already served enough. Now if that committee hammers us, then yes, your argument makes sense.
 
That's what people have been saying for months Latin. "No way we get LOIC, no one would cooperate ever again", is what we told ourselves. No one is going to cooperate now in the future. The next time a school gets in the NCAA's crosshairs, it's gonna be Obstruction City and every school after that will follow suit.

Bottom line: Haith did not get the dreaded 10.1 Only one allegation and it was an 11.1.2.1 (failure to monitor)
 
it tells me they are after our moneymaker, the football team. the team that ****ed everybody off in the 80's and birthed a generation of UM haters that is now in charge of this witch hunt

Truly "drawing out the process" would be to hear the UM case in August, at their next scheduled meeting after June. While I'd prefer a settlement or "emergency convention of the COI" to hear our case, it appears we may have to endure the pomp and circumstance of the process.

Mind you, I think the objective, hope, and plan here is to "skate" in front of the COI...but that still requires that we go before them...when they're next scheduled to meet...which is in June. That part stinks.
