I think it was a shot at SMU being there the first year they are in the conference, but they aren't smart enough to know SMU was an American Conference team not MWC team.

OK, but even then, it wasn't "taken from us", as SMU had the best record in the conference. If anything, it was "taken from us" by Clemson, who was a member of the ACC long before we were.
