Bottom line is there was Mateer, then way below was everyone else. Every one of the others is a gamble or reclamation project. I want us to get a portal QB no matter what to bring experience to the room, provide competition, and hopefully to prove they are worthy as a starting QB, but it's ridiculous to pretend anyone who's been in the portal thus far outside of Mateer would be more than just hoping we get something out of them.
I can see them not willing to open their wallets to Blake and Manny, but if they really do want to be top tier, they'll hire a better coach and keep the money flowing.
Exactly. Mendoza is far from exciting as an option, but that goes for every QB that entered the portal thus far except for Mateer. At least he would bring starting experience and a solid floor, while his ceiling might be higher than some here think if he's got talent around him unlike at Cal. I'd take him over Arnold or Salter or Murphy who have been mentioned here because the odds of them being complete busts is far higher and outweighs the chance that maybe they'll be really good

They decided to make a commitment that we haven’t seen in 20+ years to Bring Miami football back to prominence and Mario is the guy they hand picked to do it (he was literally still coaching at another school & said himself he wouldn’t come here if he didn’t have full support)… if he is gone by year 6-7 then he failed miserably even with all the resources. If you believe theyre just gonna keep pumping in the same money and resources after the guy that Boosters and the ppl with money HAND PICKED to bring Miami back fails miserably then hey I hope you’re right.
I wish we could back channel portal players the way we did our HC. Mario should know the back channel game as he was on the other side of it at the end of his Oregon tenure.
