Anyone who is acting optimistic about this is CRAZY! "Oh well, just one recruit not the end of the world". You must not realize what it takes to build a championship caliber program. You CAN NOT lose out on a top tier RB and replace him with a low end one (Gus Edwards). Yeah it won't hurt them next season, but this team is not going to be a championship contender next season, UM is 2 years away from even having a shot. In 2 years they we be in desperate need of a back to supplement Duke, and a championship team doesn't do that with the Gus Edwards' of the world. Furthermore, losing out on a kid who seemed to understand UM culture/history says ALOT about the chances the school has about landing kids who don't ie. Bryant,Bostwick,Coley...Not to mention if 6 is still undecided this doesn't help our case of swaying him at all. Hopefully this team can magically pull off 9 wins next season, and the NCAA goes easy. That MAY go along way in bringing in a better class next year. But at this point Miami is irrelevant in the minds of top recruits. Winning will help change that but unfortunately it's a catch 22 you need top classes in order to win, and you need to win in order to influence these kids. All in all if you've been content with the state of this program the past 8 years than tonight isn't a big deal to you and you can have a laugh at people who think the sky is falling. But I see nothing changing with this program and do not look forward to falling further and further behind.

calm down ******

Why the F*ck are cats blaming Golden? Da F*CK you all want him to do? S8ck the kid's d*ck? We recruited the f*CK out of this kid. We were on him hardest, earliest, did everything we could. Weve been mediocre for a decade, have the NCAA grabbing us by the balls, and his fat f8ck scumbag coach was pushing him to Arkansas. At the end of the day, kid made his decision. We did all we could. Its not like you can say we offered the kid late, or we f*cked up his recruitment. We were all over him.

You guys are ridiculous, it's just one player, Canes will be fine.

On another note, I can't believe I'm putting money on Ferman as a prognosticator this year

No one is being optimistic about the loss. EVERYONE wanted him. But he's gone, and people gotta deal. Bottom line is, we need a backup for Duke. Bottomline is, not every 5 star player is great, not every 1 star player is awful. We gotta deal with the hand that's been dealt. That being said, I'm much more worried about defense. We're getting juco's in defense to win next year and the year after. Like you said, winning cures all. If they improve next season, it'll look good for us with kids like Sony and DC. We wanted AC, but he's not an option any more.

If you see nothign changing, then that's on you and your opinion. The Canes are playing a ridiculous amount of young players, and will only improve. They will have more depth next season than last, and they'll have even more depth the following season than next. They play UF and VT at home, and play a FSU team that is losing a lot including their senior qb. There is a lot to be hopeful. The loss of this one player sucks, but it's ridiculous to think it'll break us.

Collins articulated pretty clearly the draw to go AWAY to school. While it makes sense to all of us for these kids to stay in SF and play in front of friends and family in Miami, that's not necessarily what's going through these kids' heads. With all the rumors, it was a pleasure to actually hear a kid talk about the decision.

Let's hope Duke stays healthy next year. Big opportunity for Sony in 2014.

Don't understand the "getting away" bit. He would have gotten a chance to get away in 3 years had he stayed home. He would have attended a much better academic institution while allowing his family to see him play. He would have had that independent experience at Miami while living on campus. Not like his Mom was going to be there every morning making him pop tarts. His coach just loved the Arkansauce too much.

That's your rationale, not his. Kid's never been anywhere. He sounded desperate to leave. His coach steered him to Arkansas, but he steered himself away from Miami.

Kid was committed to Miami and the coach gave him bad advice period. Never been anywhere and then decides to leave home to experience the excitement of Fayetteville. Impressionable kid who was steered away from what is best for him by an opportunistic coach. That is the only plausible explanation. Go to Alabama, fine. Go to Stanford , fine. Go to Arkansas, makes no sense. But your right, it is my rationale.

Been saying this kid was overrated from day 1 and I have the negs to prove it. You all will look back at this moment in a couple years and laugh at how upset you were over a kid who never ended up amounting to anything.

Bottom line business, effort doesnt mean **** if it's not accompanied by achievement; we will see what happens Wednesday and this upcoming season.

My big concern is Golden hasn't blown the pants off any team with his gameday abilities, similar to Butch, but the hope was in being able to out-talent others. Again this isnt the end-all but it sure is a punch to the gut. We need to be closing on our 4 star guys in SoFl, PERIOD. If not, more of the same.

Kid seems kind of soft to be a cane anyway. He should thank his coach for helping him following a long line of brillant decisions like Jacoby Brissett, Ivan McCaarthey, etc. He did the kid a huge disserve. []_[] don't us, we don't want []_[] Walk till u venture off that campus with those dreads. LOL

lulz at him being soft all of a suddenly

Alex Collins is not a God.... he is not the most important recruit in this class and he isn't anywhere near one of the best backs to ever come out of S. Florida. So just relax.... Miami will be fine when it comes to the running back situation b/c of DUKE JOHNSON and we have good back-ups and as long as they dont have to start then miami will be fine next year.

I thought Collins was a very good running back but i never believed all of the GOAT hype he was getting on this site.... UM will be fine as long as they can get one of the 2 beasts next year in Michel or Cook. They are WAY better then Collins IMO.

They're good, maybe even better.. WAY better? Don't think so
