A quick update after talking to some people

No doubt about it, Mario’s hiring mistakes and last year’s 5-7 record set the program two seasons behind schedule. Hopefully, this will be a much better season and the new OC and DC will prove to be excellent hires. he will need a solid 2023 season. No more rebuilding. He’s proven he can flip players. He did it when he first walked in the door that transition year and did it last season. This time recruits need proof more than promises.

We could’ve been superstars…

Set the program back or slit its throat…

People ask me why I’ve changed.

“What’s happened to you?” they ask. “I hope you’re ok.”

I don’t think many people have properly digested how bad last year was, on and off the field. I’ve said this before: what Miami fans think of last year is utterly irrelevant. This is what last year looked like to everyone else:

- TVD went from a possible top 10 pick to almost unplayable. He was broken, slowly and relentlessly, over the course of a season.
- Confirmed the belief that Mario Cristobal is not friendly to QBs, or offensive talent in general.
- Miami has a new floor as a program. Even in mediocrity, Miami was competitive more often than not. Not anymore.
- Miami has almost no talent defensively.
- Even Mario and Mirabal can’t make this offensive line work.
- Miami has fallen behind Norvell and FSU.

Your opinion of whether or not those things are true is irrelevant. Some of y’all have been lying to yourselves about how bad last year was. 2022 was one of the worst versions of 5-7 that I’ve ever seen, and I blame Mario 100% for it. His stubbornness on offensive coordinator hiring (and his terrible choice for DC), doomed the team. For the first time since I was a teenager, I did not plan my weekends around Miami football, because they were unwatchable. And unfortunately for Mario, they were on television every single week.

Nothing is wrong with me, well, no more than anyone else. I am a reasonable skeptic with this program, because you are what your record says you are. The recruiting struggles this season are not surprising to me in the least.
Do you see the team improving in 2023? In my eyes, it is fair to say at least a 2 win improvement is considered “improving, although 3 would be ideal being that we lost to Duke (actually decent last year but they are still Duke smh) and MTSU.

What's also funny is....... let's not forget that A LOOOOOTTTTT of you guys have prematurely crowned JT as some beast recruiter. Now i'm not saying he is or isn't....or can't be.... but man y'all have to learn to give people time to show and prove. I really don't care about how many guys we're in the running for because of him. None of that matters if they commit else where.

****, half of y'all claim he'll be a beast just because he's "hot" and he'll be pulling all the mama's..... yeah I remember lol

Some think claim he will be a beast recruiter because he’s an NFL Hall of Famer.

Mario got a lot of red flags and there’s definitely an issue with his hiring process. I thought recruiting wasn’t an issue but here we are.

It’s amazing that we’re in year two of a complete rebuild, already with a second iteration of the staff, and we’re already on the clock to win big. How did we put ourselves here? How did perceptions get here so quick?

Mario is already showing signs of desperation—doing things out of character. I’ve seen this story before. It doesn’t end well. We better ******* win or this might be the death of the program.
It’s been dead.

Red flags, flashing lights and alarm bells with his hiring process. He literally takes longer than any coach in America. People want to claim that he's thorough, but the results point to him being clueless and unprepared.

and please don't get it twisted. I love the JT hire. More so coaching wise. I also never really fell into the beast recruiter hype. I'm hoping it comes into fruition though.
your negativity is stretching pretty far at this point

we haven't missed on any DL recruits, let it play out man. Jacory Barney choosing Nebraska somehow equating to JT just is a stretch

I don’t think he’s clueless or unprepared, I believe he overthinks and micromanages everything. I believe that is part of his reputation, makes his hiring process longer, and turns off a lot of prospective hires.

Firing Gattis took way too long. He should’ve been gone the Monday after the last game of the season. I respect not wanting to publicly humiliate him and try to make it look like a mutual departing of ways but that only delayed the process. No coordinator was going to take that job with Gattis still on the payroll. Programs all over the country quickly terminate coaches after the end of the season. I bet they all find other jobs somewhere. It’s a no mad profession in many ways. Coaches move on all the time.

Gattis didn’t have the best of professional reputations around the country, so no one would’ve been surprised. Wanna bet he’s not calling plays at Maryland at some point in the season? From reviews of their spring ball they already have buyers remorse.

Even Manny Diaz fired his OC at the end of the season.
