A little Cristobal/ Kiffin perspective today...

Oregon was a 3 point underdog today and lost by 31 on the road. They underperformed Vegas by 28 points.

Ole Miss was a 36 point favorite today and won by 14 at home. They underperformed Vegas by 22 points.

And Vandy was even driving to cut it to 7 and set up an onside kick opportunity but threw a bad pick inside the 10 to end it. I am not condemning either of them btw. My point is, don't overreact. Zoom out. They are both still excellent coaches who we'd be very, very lucky to get.
Money post. Zoom out for sure. We often get so caught up in one game which is a tiny sample size of what any coach has actually done. We would be extremely lucky to have Mario or Lane. I’ll sit back and watch the AD hire and then if the AD hires one of those two I will start looking at plane tickets for the 2022 season.

you guys are ridiculous

he just got boat raced by fcking UTAH, a team that's already lost 3 games so this isn't some undefeated urban meyer utah team... he got DESTROYED

Just some perspective on the two leading candidates on this board and the topic of this thread.

For those of you that watched the Oregon v. Utah game last night, how come you didn't notice the bigger picture?

Cristobal has been the full time HC at Oregon since 2018. He is 22-9 in conference. During that same time, Kyle Whittingham is 24-7. These two have coached against each other three times, during that time. Kyle is 2-1 against Mario.

Kyle isn't my number #1 choice but I'd have to imagine if Mario never coached/played for Miami, many of you would rather have Kyle > Mario simply based on the actual results. I also don't want to hear that Utah is some elite place to coach/recruit. There is a good chance, assuming Mario can beat Oregon State, they will have another matchup this season in the PAC-12 Conference game. Regardless, Kyle has done a better job in the same conference, during the same time frame, with much less.

As for Lane, removing his tenure at FAU and discussing his actual college tenure (updated after yesterday):

1. His overall record is 49-28
2. His conference record is 30-23
3. Zero conference championships in those 7 seasons*.

*Yes, Lane was 7-2 in conference in 2010. That same year Oregon was 8-1 and Stanford was 8-1. Maybe he beats one of them in the Conference championship, maybe not. Also, Ole Miss was eliminated from the SEC CG after Alabama won yesterday.

Now an opinion on Lane, I don't see the appeal. It is not like he has done anything to stand out. No, I don't expect him to beat Bama and win the SEC. With that said, I want someone better than a 30-23 in conference record.

Our last 3 coaches we’ve gotten 2 guys from temple and a burned out Mark Richt.

All of this talk is silly. If there REALLY is a legit scenario where the University of Miami is choosing between Mario Cristobal and Lane Kiffin, who gives a **** which one it is? We’ve all gotten what we’ve been begging for for 20 years.

Ask yourself. If we played Clemson opening week next year. Who would you rather have coaching Miami in that game? Kiffen or Mario? With me it is absolutely be Kiffin. He wouldn't change a thing on offense which is excellent. Mario in my opinion will want to completely overhaul the offense to run run pass type. Our offense is loaded and we are ready to win big on offense. Defense will need alot of help this off-season but I honestly think we win 10+ games next year with Lane Kiffin coaching us
Next year we play @Clemson and @Texas A&M, been on the Lane Train for awhile.
Who cares if he leaves in 3 years, nobody will want him unless he’s built a monster here.
Most of our coaches have been here 5 years or less, why do we need a lifetime coach.
Just get him to sign with a huge buyout and we’ll be fine.

Just wish we could expect Lane to give us a solid amount of time. No way to put it into a contract that can’t ultimately be paid off. I am too worried that he gives us only 3 years and bolts for a better opportunity. Mario is the more stable hire since he is slim. He won’t do the U like that because of how it would look. Lane has shown that he is all about Lane, and that’s a problem for me.
You get him to agree to a 4 year contract with a huge buyout in case someone try’s to poach him.

I swear I'm the only one one the Fickell or Matt Campbell train.
No, you aren’t. And I would add Napier to the list. Their teams don’t ever get overwhelmed. I watched the first half of the Oregon game when I got back last night. They were outcoached and Mario looked lost on the sideline.

What exactly is Mario's expertise? From everything I've read, he's neither an offensive or defensive scheme visionary. More of an administrator, and a highly effective recruiter (which we certainly always could use, although MD has brought in highly-rated classes).

As a personality, he seems the opposite of fiery or particularly inspirational. Sorta bland, like a lower-energy Larry Coker (he does have the sideline clapping down).

I’m not defending any particular coach or corch, but on any given Saturday, ANY CFB team can take a big dump. We see it **** near every week. Baga was in dogfight with Arkansas and gave up 35 with the D wizard Sabag roaming the sidelines.

Seems if the favored team don’t cover, they suck even if they win.

I love how everyone blames the lack of a QB at Oregon yet overlooks how their defense played.

The OL was getting whooped all night as well.

Oh, all those distractions. Sorry, they lose it so bad they must've forgot to look at the scoreboard. Surely if they had, some pride would've kicked in.

That was a dumpster fire. All the close calls they've had this year and come from behind wins or ones they barely held onto, all kicked into overdrive and they got curb stomped.

You can't spin that loss tonight. It was atrocious. This isn't his first, second, or even third year there. It's his fourth. Three top 10 recruiting classes in a row.

I see people say he's a monster recruiter, but then they'll say where's the competition out West with everyone and their brother down and out for the count.

So he then comes here and has to fend off every top team in the South and parts across the entire country?

Mario is alright. He's a 9 or 10 win guy here. That should be good enough for this administration. It won't be good enough for most of the fans here though. He'll continue to drop games and we're not in the excuse business.
Close calls are a sign of, well, what we've been seeing here for years. It's only a matter of time before a few of those close calls turn into losses. I don't want that here.

It’s just laughable if you think we’re getting a coach with a better resume than Mario.

12 win season, rose bowl, two conference championships (3rd on the way), beat OSU on the road.

Is he perfect? No but you’re banking that Miami can pull the talent to keep these games from happening. Also, we don’t know that the Miami rumors didn’t impact Oregon’s players

Christobal averages 3 losses a year @ Oregon with a discernable talent advantage.

He literally does nothing well but recruit and not well enough to overcome his corching. (KIRBY DOES IT BETTER)

He's 107th ranked in penalities, just 12 spots ahead of Miami.

When it comes to on field benefits an argument could be made for his OL prowess but everywhere else he's below average and offers nothing on either side of the ball when it comes to coordinator XP.

His best attribute is that he's former UM and we all know how well that's worked out for us....

Did mention you have to buy him out? The ****....

I think it's apparent that Mario will need a top notch staff around him at UM. Good thing the school administration basically just told everyone this week they're ready to give him one. I'm gonna be thrilled with either Cristobal or Lane. Both will be a marked improvement and more importantly both will have an extra $20-30 Mill to work with.
I hope that $20-30M isn't for Mario buyout.

Difference is Oregon got rolled on the road against a team they knew they had to be up for. Ole Miss won a close game against an inferior opponent the week between beating A2M and playing the Miss St. That had letdown written all over it.
