A little Cristobal/ Kiffin perspective today...

Ive never seen so many ppl rationalize a coach's losses like has been done for Mariop Cristobal for Cane fans the last 3 years.

*Look if we get him we get him and im riding with it.

But some of yall gotta be real with yourselves and be real with what he actually is and what he can be here at Um.
I’ve never seen so many people not want Mario then throw out 3 other coaches who have the same **** problems just in different areas and have the same or worse record.

If most said here are my favorites but I’d love if Mario came that would make sense, but Matt Campbell is always a hot name but have you watched Iowa st this year, they have been worse than Oregon and starting QB has regressed.

Campbell best record at Iowa st is 9-3

Maybe the Miami rumors affected Cristobal too. He may have already checked out and wants to come to the 305. I STILL THINK Cristobal would win big here. Go canes!
Only way the rumors impact his coaching is if there is some truth to them. Where there’s smoke…

Just wish we could expect Lane to give us a solid amount of time. No way to put it into a contract that can’t ultimately be paid off. I am too worried that he gives us only 3 years and bolts for a better opportunity. Mario is the more stable hire since he is slim. He won’t do the U like that because of how it would look. Lane has shown that he is all about Lane, and that’s a problem for me.

Lol @ checked out on him...

This is who he is and his team is..... They lose 2-3 a year that they shouldnt...had this circled as a loss all week
Tbf, Vegas had it as an L too. Oregon has been pretty fortunate in close games. This team isn’t as good as its record. Their QB is horrible and they have a ton of injuries.

What are you talking about?

Mario already did us like that once. He was here for dinner and a movie under Golden, and then skipped out of town to go to Bama. I don’t blame him for doing so, since Golden sucked and Sabag is Sabag. But it’s disingenuous to say that he wouldn’t “do us like that.”

In my opinion, Herman, Kiffin or Freeze are better HC choices. You can have all the talent in the world, but if you don’t have a big time offensive mind in today’s CFB, it’s really difficult to be elite or win championships.

Even Saban adapted to running an attacking spread, and abandoned his bludgeoning the other team to death style.

Kiffin, Herman and Freeze all understand this. Not sure that Mario does. Plus, in my opinion, TVD and Garcia will really grow even more and flourish under any of the 3 aforementioned coaches. There are red flags for me concerning Mario when it comes to QB’s.

Recruiting is important, but I actually believe that top kids will wanna come play here knowing that we’re gonna light up the scoreboard on a weekly basis.

Lane had some great recruiting classes at USC, and also at TN. He can recruit. People are underestimating him in that regard.

I also did not like that fact that Mario told the fans to stop booing at home games. That is not alpha at all. Lane is a savage that wants to beat other teams by as many as he can. Not sure that Mario has that edge about him.

Mario’s pluses are his charisma, ability to connect well with high school kids, and that he learned under Sabag.

But Lane also learned under Sabag, and was the OC for Bama title teams. Kiffin also worked for Pete Carroll at USC and learned under Chow. If Lane can get a great DC and guys that can recruit, I prefer him as our next HC.

Ffs that sounds like every coach who’s ever lost a game.
100% totally agree.

Most coaches speak the same way, they kind of have to in today's media.
I have never understood why Manny catches heat for the coach speak responses he puts out. everyone does it. Yeah his coaching is troublesome, but his media responses are straight from the "I'm a coach that can't say what I really think, cos twitter" textbook. So are everyone elses.

Except Mike Leach.

Ask yourself. If we played Clemson opening week next year. Who would you rather have coaching Miami in that game? Kiffen or Mario? With me it is absolutely be Kiffin. He wouldn't change a thing on offense which is excellent. Mario in my opinion will want to completely overhaul the offense to run run pass type. Our offense is loaded and we are ready to win big on offense. Defense will need alot of help this off-season but I honestly think we win 10+ games next year with Lane Kiffin coaching us
Change our offense to a run run pass type? If he wants to alienate the fans and the locker room right off the bat then that's what he will do.

He would have to be a special type of stupid to pull a move like that considering the personel we have on offense and what our strengths are. The OL needs to improve dramatically in run blocking and of course he will start addressing that right away as he should. He just has no logical reason to rip out the air raid concepts and put in a run heavy attack.

Another thing is that we have probably all forgotten but this issue is something that a strong AD will/should address with the head coach as he is hiring staff.

If Cristobal gets the job his priorities should be to hire an OC that will run the type of system most natural for our recruiting base and what we currently have on the roster. In other words Mario should hire an OC known for a potent pass attack. That doesn't mean we forget the run but the idea is to play to your strengths. While on the topic of offense another priority for Mario will have to be whipping this Offensive Line into shape. Alex Mirabal is the perfect man for that job.

Finally Cristobal needs to hit a home run with his DC hire. The abortion of a scheme that we are running now needs to be ripped out and replaced by a fundamentally sound yet aggressive scheme where gap integrity is valued, basic football fundamentals are taught and attention to detail is prized.

I think it's apparent that Mario will need a top notch staff around him at UM. Good thing the school administration basically just told everyone this week they're ready to give him one. I'm gonna be thrilled with either Cristobal or Lane. Both will be a marked improvement and more importantly both will have an extra $20-30 Mill to work with.
