2013 TOP WEIGHT ROOM PERFORMERS

Boy I swear, we sure know how to give guys labels based on how they look getting off the bus.

"Henderson is a #1 pick. He's a 6'8" five star!"
"Figs is an animal. Haven't seen him play yet, but look at him, he's gonna kill people."

Then you got a guy like Linder, who has far less fans than Henderson, and he's our best lineman and strongest man on the team at 6'6". Nobody talks about this guy going in the first round though. It's always Henderson, who honestly hasn't done jack since he's been here. His career has been severely pedestrian.

Henderson is going to be a very high pick because he is the prototypical offensive tackle. Everyone has been waiting for him to mentally commit and it looks like he has. He's been far from pedestrian. He just hasn't been Mount McKinnie. I'd be curious to see how many sacks he's given up in his 3 years. 3? 4?

As for Linder nobody doubts he isn't a stud. He will probably go early in the draft for a guard. But that's it he's a guard.
The draft is about potential for next level success. How else can you explain Richard Gordon or McGlover getting drafted?

What's exciting is we have a whole team of studs.
Corey King would have topped the bench test at the combine last year. Cory King!
We, as a team, are as strong and big as any team in the country.

We almost doubled our body fat %? Interesting.

Seems pretty clear The Don has emphasized getting bigger and stronger, and you don't usually make those tremendous gains that quickly while keeping a super low body fat percentage. Body fat number like 7.1% are absurdly low for LBs.

I think everyone should take all these numbers with a huge grain of salt. They are pretty meaningless to me.

I think some of the numbers for the young guys can be very telling. If you can squat almost 500 pounds when you are 18, you could probably squat 600 by the time you are 22 and I love to see big #'s from incoming freshmen. Really shows they are walking onto the field with the proper mindset.

A lot of credit goes to the staff but Duke Johnson and co. really set the tone when they came in. Seemed like they were pushing each other to work harder than some of our juniors and seniors were.

Very impressive all around.

Agreed that's the takeaway re: what's preferred. It's a notable difference in style and I imagine it will trickle into the type of system they play.

I had a thread locked about this topic, but are the DB's as slow as the CS numbers show? Only Crawford and Elder under 4.58

Factor in the vagaries of hand-timing, possible poor reporting of the information by whatever sloppy website reported it, and a lot of guys not participating, and you need to take that list with a grain of salt.

The Don seems obsessed with the idea of adding bulk. That's for sure. Looks like we are definitely moving away from our past emphasis on wanting to be the fastest defense in college football that never really paid much attention to size or strength. I'm sure The Don still wants a fast team, but it looks like he's most interested in having a very large and strong front 7.

I think you guys nailed it. As long as these guys are still kicking *** in the conditioning tests, its pretty clear what Golden has intended

Golden said from the outset he wants a "powerful" team.

They're all in on their scheme.

You need some beef to play the style they want to play.

im pretty sure Malcolm Lewis and Deon Bush were held out, Bush started camp with a red jersey so I doubt he did any testing and Lewis was also coming off an injury.

Sorry, this is just wrong.

He may not have performed up to the hype that he came in with, but as long as he's been on the field, Henderson has been solid.

If not for a meaningless, throwaway sack at the end of the FSU game, he would have shut out a 1st round defensive end.

Pedestrian compared to the hype. Nothing wrong about that at all.

It would behoove some of you to actually watch some tape. I have a former player on the OL so I watch them very closely. He doesn't dominate. He doesn't maul people. He plays RT instead of LT, which is where you would expect a "future 1st rounder" to play. And when Feliciano was at RT Henderson couldn't beat him out.

Does he suck? Absolutely not, but he hasn't been the all-world five star. He's maybe...maybe...the 3rd best lineman on the team. He never grades out amongst the top-3 after games either.

And he'll still likely be the top lineman drafted that is currently on the team (depending how Flowers develops).

Which has nothing to do with him being good for the Miami Hurricanes.

I'll take a friendly wager though. Linder before Henderson.
