CANES snag a preferred walk on from Asheville via Fork Union

Always good to infuse the roster with hard workers. Especially in the weight room as he's described. He'll likely never play here but it's a no lose situation. He'll fill a spot on scout team also

Good for the young man..wish him all the best and just keep fighting for your goals!!

These are the type of guys you need to win a championship.

He will do WHATEVER it takes, imo. May not have the talent, but will push those that do.

Are you serious?

As serious as bo pelini

In Pelini’s first recruiting class, the Huskers signed 30 walk-on players. Now, in the redshirt senior season of those walk-on players, six have starting experience or have contributed substantial playing time, including guard Seung Hoon Choi, defensive back Justin Blatchford, holder Jase Dean, tight end Conor McDermott, kicker Brett Maher and center Justin Jackson.

Penn State coach Bill O’Brien said he was impressed by Nebraska’s walk-on program and hoped to emulate it at Penn State to help recover from the team’s scholarship reductions. Establishing a culture like Nebraska’s is more difficult than it sounds, Pelini said.

AG thought it is serious enough to "have signs plastered around campus that called for 'any student that is 6’1 and 230+lbs that is interested in joining the football team as an Offensive Lineman' to contact an athletic department staff member.

College football teams are not allowed to scrimmage any other teams. This means that every practice in the spring, they only have each other to compete against. If you don’t have enough bodies there, you’re at a significant disadvantage in preparation come August. You also need to keep in mind the fact that a 6’1, 230 lb freshmen could easily balloon to 270+ lbs as a sophomore with the right diet and workout regimen.

Now, this guy is 6'4 295 lbs., was a key element to Asheville School’s run to the 2011 NCISAA Division II championship game, studying law, WANTS to be here. . .and it doesn't COST a thing. He may not have the talent, but will push those that do.

"Can't have a roster full of 5-stars, you need guys who are going to shovel that coal." -------AG

alabama had 20+ walk-ons
noter dame 30+ walk-ons

So we have a young man who is paying $50K+ a year to attend his dream school, and some of you are bashing him? Maybe he is our long snapper of the future? Maybe he provides depth and a great attitude?!? Seriously, use your brains before you post.

You can never tell. He's got good height/weight so it's not like he won't look at home on the team. Enroll him, show him the weight room and see what happens.

+1 Let's see what he can do.

And this kid is not from here but from someplace I've never heard of.
This kid's DNA is obviously all Cane.
How can anyone bash a kid who exemplifies everything we want in our players?

TROLLS

He's also a state champion wrestler. I like! The best part is that he won't cost a scholarship.

Kid has size ,strength and quickness. Perfect as a scout player and who knows. He chose us as a walkon and did have some scholarship offers.Dont underestimate the power of will and hard work.

Welcome to the U young man! Hopefully your endeavors come to fruition during your time with the Best University. Enjoy!

"In some instances, a college coach/recruiter may designate an athlete as a "preferred walk-on" during the scouting process. In this situation, the athlete is assured a spot on the team, but the coach is unable or unwilling to offer a scholarship."

I didn't see any posts bashing him. Unless some were deleted, the posts seemed neutral to very positive.

FWIW, I met this kid while I was working Spring Orientation and he is massive. Was hanging out with Fig and Hunter the entire time and definitely seemed to be the serious one in the group. Seems to have a **** of a work ethic from my short conversations with him. Definitely a great addition to our team, especially as a walk on

J. Gonzalez received a full academic scholarship to the U so technically he was a walk on but he still went to UM on scholarship and he was definitely recruited to be a football player

S.Moss was offered a track scholarship so we could get an extra scholarship while we were on probation with reduced scholarships in 97...in 98 we were back offering 25 however we were so far below the 85 when Moss stepped on the football field he became a football scholarship

Andre King was a walk on well as he had a clause in his baseball contract that if he did not make it to the majors in 5 years they would pay for his college...so his tuition was paid for by a baseball team....he was later given a scholarship cause we still offered 25 but were under the 85 so had a scholarship just sitting around
