You only get so many chances

Both bad, one a lot more controllable than the other.

Either way though, I don’t think either of those would’ve stopped Syracuse from rolling down to win 49-42 (or an eventual first down to ice it) had they had to.

Unfortunately, the true game changer here was X’s fumble.
And Mario shuffling the Oline . Got that holding call on rivers at guard

He is too slow and lumbering. He blocks out the sun, but he can’t move and he doesn’t anchor well. He might be an NFL guy on profile, but he’s not going to lock down that edge. Remember - we won’t have Ward next year, who saved us from multiple sacks with his elusiveness and pocket movement.
Our next QB won’t be as good as Ward and won’t be able to hunt big plays like him. But I’d bet our sack numbers go down with a more traditional quarterback.

Next year is simple. Need a solid qb who can distribute and make the plays. Need to get some receivers.

And the defense needs to be a strength next year. If they’re not a strength we will be 8-4 max. Guidry needs to go at minimum. Go after a hotshot coordinator. Recruit some portal dts. 2 safety’s and 2 corners in the portal.

Man idk if damari brown makes a difference today but we couldn’t be worse if we tried

If we don’t have a qb who can make plays on his own, we won’t win more than 8 games. Have to stop thinking Ken Dorsey is the answer. That only works if we had a WR corps with multiple Andre Johnson caliber WRs.

What does “traditional” mean D$?
Doesn’t hold it as long.

To be clear- I don’t think our QB next year will be anywhere near as good as Cam. He’s the best QB in the nation. But I don’t think he saves us from many sacks. He holds onto the ball more than anyone and hunts big plays. That’s part of what makes him so unique and special.

Mario is who you said he was when he was first hired @DMoney. An underachiever. We probably have a top 10ish ranked roster which means with Mario's coaching we're maybe a top 15 team.

For us to be a perennial top 5 team we need to replace Bama, OSU, or UGA on the recruiting list in the top 3 for years on end. And as long as we're in the ACC, that's not happening. And now there's even more competition with Texas, Oregon, and Michigan.
We'll probably keep recruiting right around top 10 and probably stay ranked right in the 10-15 range..which is a lot better than we've been the last 20 years but nowhere near satisfies the die hards. Every once in awhile when we have the roster just right and we get a special QB maybe we'll ascend into the top 5..or it could be the perfect coordinator falls in our lap and ascends us an extra level above where our roster is.

But we have to hope that isn't countered by Mario's coaching and GameDay decision making.

But bottom line is Mario isn't a Jimmy Johnson or a Howard Schnellenberger or even a Dennis Erickson where he elevates the roster due to coaching and motivation.

He needs an elite roster (top 5).
He needs 2 elite coordinators.

We'll see if in this new era of NIL and portal if that's even achievable but it's unlikely.

I predict Bell will be in the NFL. Could be wrong, it’s happened before plenty. But unlike guys like DJ Ivey, who himself is in the NFL, Bell will have the college coaching to maximize his tools.
The problem with this is that they may play in the NFL but they don't win the Miami Hurricanes games.

DJ Ivey can have a 10 year career and good for him .... he was a major reason the Miami Hurricanes lost lots of games while he played.

I don't see a QB as special as Cam entering the portal this year...without Cam we are likely 6-6 this year.

We need wholesale upheaval on the defensive staff and I pray to God that these recruiting/portal evals start hitting
Cam and his performances masked a lot of issues that still exist with coaching on that side of the ball.

I hope people understand this because I don’t want anyone to be shocked if we fix the defense only to wonder WTF happened to the offense.

A lot of issues all the way around.

Prepare yourself If he's our starting QB next year, we'll be lucky to win 7 games.

You cannot bet the house on SF players in critical moments, they will always come up short.

If we put the hopes of our season next year in the hands of a mediocre QB, we'll deserve everything that comes with it.

This cannot be the plan. It just can't be.
Agreed. Heading into the season, it was already clear that this secondary and overall defense looked shaky. Next season, If significant changes aren’t made, this entire program will be in serious trouble. Once again, they’ll need to rely heavily on the portal to make up for consistent high school recruiting misses.

Yup. Coach hasn't shown that he has an edge on gameday. That's the problem.

This is Mario’s roster filled with Mario’s guys. If it’s culture, it’s on him. That means he let it happen so it’s all a moot point. If he can’t develop a winning and unselfish culture, he can’t be successful here.
Jacolby never got punished.

In the end, sure, he committed that stupid personal foul. What made it worse was the plays call to continue to ignore Martinez on 1st and Goal on that play.

Cam Ward Campaigns For Hurricanes Spot In College Football Playoff

Cam Ward said after the 42-38 loss to Syracuse, the College Football Playoff selection committee should give the 10-win Hurricanes an at-large spot in the tournament.
“If they knew what was up, they’d put us in the playoff,” Ward said. “We are that team. It’s not in our hands anymore, but I mean, just go look at the stats. We’re that team. Every winner’s got to lose someday. If we get a chance to go in the playoff, we’re going to make the most of it. We don’t care if we’re a top-eight seed or we’re a 12 seed. The playoffs is anybody’s chance. We just hope we can get a shot.”

Nobody ever did. All year. I’ve tried to explain to everybody that after the GT game last year, Mario doesn’t have a leg to stand on to hold anybody accountable.
