Al has repeatedly stated that the defensive woes start with him. So I don't see Al scapegoating his best friend.

Both will be here through the 2015 season before anyone gets canned.

Haha love the posters who think AG will be fired after 2015

Dude will be here as long as he wants to be

Unfortunately I think he's back for at least another season. Not enough heat on Golden to force his hand just yet (fans on this site not withstanding).

It will not help to fire Mark if the defense is not changed. Another DC would have to have authority to impose his own defense and that is another roadblock. Al thinks his defense is good. Unless his wisdom overcomes his stubborn pride, we will continue to see 500 yard games. Al has correctly identified the problem-- his defense. I agree he needs to be fired, but we actually don't know if it is Mark's fault. Al needs to look at Cane history. Howard bought in his offense, the pro set and turned college football upside down. JJ, kept Howard's offense, but brought in his defense, base 4-3 played fast and aggressive and destroyed everyone. Dennis kept JJ's defense and brought his offense, the one back and won 2 NCs. Al has installed his own defense and it has failed with epic impact. I was never in love with Butch as a coach, but as a recruiter no one could touch him. Al might be the same animal. I love his recruiting and his game management is better than Butch's but if he can not adapt his defense, then we have to take his recruits in 2014 and 2015 and then send him and Mark on their way. It is a same because Al has everything else you want in a HC. Problem is that winning isn't everything-- IT IS THE ONLY THING!

Longer leash due to what he's dealt with and how well he dealt with it? Absolutely, but that train is leaving the station after next season. I do not believe that he can stay as long as he wants if the results don't improve.

I am not sure how susceptible to "heat" Coach Golden is. He might prefer to lose his job than throw someone else under the bus to save his own tush. I think that by far the most promising possibility is that Golden might come to the conclusion that the problem is the defensive scheme itself, a scheme that he himself seems to favor.

We will follow our usual m.o. and allow half a thousand yards to any offense we line up against, and unfortunately, Cloud Golden will retain this dip**** for yet another season of embarrassment.

Bad days comin, especially if:

1) we get lit up for 600 yards in an embarrassing *** whooping by Louisville.
2) End the season on a stinking sh*t soaked death spiral of defensive cluelessness....
3) That triggers a landslide defection of recruits, never to land a great DL guy ever again, and sets the program back..seemingly forever.

Al, yer on thin ice.

Must be wishful thinking because the reality is Canes could get slaughtered by the Cards and Al ain't going no where. Neither is coach D unless Al decides to go in that direction because Al won't be strong armed in his decisions. It is his team and you powerless, gutless fans can't do a thing. All you unqualified want to be coaches are helpless as a new born baby. You can jump up and down cry and scream threaten to not show up(no one would miss you are crowds are **** already) and no one at the university from the president down would give one **** about your complaints. Maybe you so called fans should have done more with your sad lives where your pleas would make a difference. I get my best laughs everyday reading this board and seeing you boys suffering.

I am a pretty big Miami homer...not on DBC levels but above average for sure.

IF we go with the status quo on defense next year, I will take the season off. never have I done that. not even in the depths of ShanCoker **** did i give up on the team. if someone like me would give up on them, then it is a really really ugly situation. would set the program back a couple few years

this AG/Dorito defensive experiment has to stop right now
