Yearby

Dmoney, I respect you as a poster because you seem like an ole school cane fan so im shocked you would be against accepting Yearbys commitment. I hear you. I was really disappointed in his junior campaign. I dont care if he was splitting carries. But if we strike out on Sony and Cook you wouldnt accept him if he wanted in? This isnt a Daryl Chestnut situation IMO.

If we strike out on those two, then we re-evaluate for sure. Then again, there may be other backs that come on the radar besides these three.

All I'm saying is that right now Sony and Cook need to be Plan A through Plan Z.

Lol. Wow talk about..what have you done for me lately?...two years ago Yearby was the talk of the city. Now cats are saying they wouldnt accept his commitment. Smh. I will wait to see what he does his senior year before I just throw him to the wolves. Especially seeing that Sony and Cook have given us NO indication that they are HEAVY leans our way. I know Yearby hasnt either but if coley flips him and he committs.. im thinking cats are gonna go ape$hit and want to question Coleys evaluation skills! Lol.

I can see it both ways. I think Yearby is being downplayed a bit but I do prefer the Sony and Cook duo. Its a great problem to have, IMO. If we get Sony and either Cook or Yearby I don't see how anyone could be disappointed.

Awesome contribution to the incoherent porsting club.

Actually, I agree with canes33. We shouldn't go after Yearby.

I've been on the Cook over Yearby bandwagon for more than a year, but after watching them this season I don't think they're even on the same planet. The film makes it pretty obvious, IMO, but let's just look at the numbers:

Dalvin Cook-127 carries, 1,452 yards (11.4 ypc), 21 TDs
Joe Yearby- 212 carries, 1,448 yards (6.8 ypc), 20 TDs

My problem with Yearby is that I don't see one skill that will carry him on the next level. He's too small to be a power back, too slow to be a dynamic back and too slight to be a Gio Bernard-type back. He's a great high school runner with vision and feet, but I don't see stardom at the college level. If he goes to Miami or FSU he'll probably end up transferring to an FCS-school.

I know for a fact that Miami's plan before Coley got here was to go after Sony and Cook. One coach who saw Cook against Naples compared him to Adrian Peterson (not in terms of style, but talent). Coley's arrival may have changed things. I've heard and read that he's close to Yearby's mentor. But if we're talking ability, I just can't see any argument for Yearby over Cook and Michel.

If Cook is so much better than Yearby, why did Central give Yearby twice as many carries as Cook?

That stat should tell you a lot about what his high school coaches think.

YPC is not the end-all-be-all for a RB. It could be that Yearby was the feature back, and when he was in, defenses keyed in on him.

I watched the film and honestly, Sony Michel is above and beyond either of these two. Yearby is a quick, shifty little back, and Cook is a poor man's Michel.

By the way, us going after Yearby might have just as much to do with all our recent interaction with his coach, Lockette, as it does with the new offensive coordinator.

Cook plays defense, infact in second half of year and whole playoff run he played 95% snaps on Defense and also returns kicks, he gets a break on offense and comes in to break the games wide open

No doubt it should be cook and Michel first but my god we need talent in the worst way. If yearly wanted to commit tomorrow you take it no questions asked

Sony> cook > yearby
I gotta admit I'd be ****ed if we lost Sony, but as long as it isn't to f$u I think I can live with central's dynamic duo

lol @ you guys hating on Yearby. Kid is a stud in his own right and is worth an offer from any big time program in the country. No he's not as good as Cook or Sony but he can definitely play at Miami.

People just hate on him, cuz he's another hometown traitor, he's still a great back but as you said, just not as good as Sony or cook

to say you prefer Sony and Cook over Yearby is fine but to say he isn't worth a div 1 scholarship? that's crazy.

Don't forget that Cook is committed to Clemson and maybe doesn't want to be at Miami.

Just for the record- I think he's definitely a D-1 prospect. He's a good back with vision. I just don't see any trait that will carry him to stardom.

His best fit is at a school like NC State or Louisville IMO.
