Im a fan of the pick up and a Phenix City Alabama Kid.
He just looks smooth as a wr and route runner.
Love the take right now as well as we arent gonna d*ck around waitin g on Florida wrs and i feel the two they are.....arent coming so might as well lock him in and go big game hunting or flip hunting during the szn.

3 wrs are needed in the class or 2 high school and a portal big dog. We are losing 3 for sure and possibly could have an attrition of one or so is my guess.

@grover this guy’s by no means a blazer.

@RVACane Here's what I like about the kid's highlights: great route running, QB friendly -- slows/speeds as needed to track the ball, major YACs due to his length of stride after the catch (deceptive "football" speed), winner coming from a championship team.

I see what you see, but I'm celebrating the fact he committed to the Canes in his commitment thread. We can have a deeper discussion about why Beard/Dawson/Mario targeted Upshaw and what he brings at another time.

p.s. Let's keep that Bama pipe flowing. It is already paying dividends and will continue to do so. If Travonte hadn't gotten injured, I think we would have a much larger presence there already with Mario's connections. Looking to Coop to make a statement this year, and Pruitt and McConathy to get some snaps and be our future ambassadors.

There seems to be an assumption that this kid is not going to continue to improve in all areas of his game, which could include size and speed, but even at this stage, this kid has offers from Penn St and 9 SEC teams including Georgia and Texas. That point, coupled with a highly respected coach in Beard who is having strong success in developing receivers, and logic would dictate that this kid is in demand for good reason. It begs the question, Georgia and Texas in their recruiting have the resources to evaluate and cherry pick any receiver they want, and they have offered this kid. Why would they eat up a scholarship on someone who is just a JAG? I hope that is a fair question and point for all the naysayers. Either way, time will tell who is correct, and who will have receipts piling up.

Adjustment at :57…Route running at 3:00

That's BIG TIME

For those saying he's slow…Then every day on that tape must be running a 5.2…Because except for the late underthrows, he's 3 to 5 yards past everyone DB on those deep balls. (I understand that is the route running, but still…He's not Santana Moss, but he's not hurting for speed either)

Very skilled route runner. His stemming is advanced for a HS WR & is a very good hands catcher. Runs the full route tree, which most HS WR's, (especially the ones from a certain region) don't. Has good outside stacking ability as well. Nice smooth & quick release; no wasted steps or motion. You can tell he's been Coached on how to properly release off the line. He's not doing the Cha Cha slide before running his route & has good transitional movement with his feet getting out of his breaks. Runs really nice 5 & 3/9 combo routes.

Lacks raw speed & explosion, but will get open off precise footwork & can be a valuable assest in this offense (if Dawson is still here by the time he gets on campus). Doesn't look 180, but has the frame to be in that 180-190 range.

My comp:

Looks like he built like Harry Douglas/Titus Young/Jordan Addison currently.

I’ve seen the kid multiple times. Most recently in the state championship this year. Any kid that’s able to make plays against Thompsons Secondary I’ll take my chances with. Central is known for producing really good high school WR prospects. Most notably Justyn Ross (Clemson), Karmello English (Michigan), Cam Coleman (Auburn), EJ Williams (Clemson).

The kid may not wow people with blazing speed (He’s not slow) but he will come in very well prepared. And ready to take somebody lunch money! Bama kids love ball man. And they’re raised to be physical and aggressive in the area he’s from. His former teammate was one of the freshman DEs TJ Parker from Clemson who had a good deal of sacks this year in the ACC.

Bo Nix Dad Patrick is his Head Coach. That school will always have D1 talent. A good group of those top kids are actually from Georgia. The zoning is so strange in that area but it’s definitely a school we should cherry pick from as long as we make the state of Alabama a priority, which it seems like Mario will.
You can say what you want about Pat Nix as a college coach but he always has good coaches on staff and will get kids ready to play college ball

Welcome to The U! Those production numbers are no joke at that level of competition. Have a healthy Senior year, come in prepared to work and help us get back to greatness!

Looks a bit faster than Daz, and a better route runner, but based off of his high school tape only, thats not a bad comp.
He also has two functioning hips. Like you said he’s faster than Dax , his route running is top shelf for a Hs kid and so are his hands. He also plays big for his size with great body control. Tbh I was surprised how good the film was after reading some of the comments here. I came away very impressed . This is the type of wr that’ll stay open in college while playing inside and out. I like it.

Outside of Wilson and Brown III who at this point are pipe dreams..I was never really impressed with the WR big board but I’ll trust Beard and Mario on this one. Won’t bash the kid. Clearly there is something there because his offer list was pretty **** good.

Speak!
I agree with all of this. Bama kids love ball! Different mindset to some of the kids we had come through Miami.

Also, some kids here kinda get left out because they can't afford to make trips for camps and other events.
