Not everything is has to be binary when it comes to opinion as some people make it out to be.

I am not a believer in Gattis, but I am more than happy to be proven wrong. I also don’t want him fired, nor do I think he is a bad coach. And it is way to early to tell. That’s just where I sit. It doesn’t have to be a choice between “fire him yesterday” and “he is the best Broyles award winner ever”.

I was in the Lane Kiffin camp, but I’m pretty wrong about that at this point.

@Cribby is correct, we are incredibly thin, with some glaring holes on the offense and defense, that we’re going to have to scheme around. We can win while rebuilding, I’m not saying we can’t, but make no mistake, this is a rebuild job.

Agree with that. We’ll learn some things tonight, but good or bad they can change. In ‘17 we learned pretty early we had a lucky team, and we all know that changed.

If Gattis thinks he's just going to ground and pound and dink/dunk down the field all day long on A&M, then he's dumb. He better have a bunch of intermediate stuff, hurry up, RPO, and some deep shots if he expects to win..there's no way we just line up and methodically beat A&M. He has to keep them off balance and use TVD and a diverse offense to our advantage.

If not, we lose big..A&M will make some big plays. I don't think they can just grind down the field against us either. But they do out talent is and their defense is better than ours.

Big plays and creativity will win this game.

Also, Addae has been extremely disappointing so far.. Both as a coach and as a recruiter.

Time will tell with him

Crazy that Gattis is THE big concern no? I share it ... just concerned based on what we have seen so far that he is going all in to "establish the run" to the degree that he doesn't let TVD do what he does best ... play loose, read and make quick decisions, and let if fly accurately (2021 version). Seems like Gattis has him on a leash, asking him to think more, delay, slow down, and so far it hasn't looked "natural" or like "TVD" that we saw smiling, laughing and hitting WR's last season. GOT to mix it up at least. Big night for Canes fans to get a better idea of what the "real Gattis offense" is all about. Can't be "holding back" for conference play ... this game is too big.

Well we KNOW TVD can execute at a very high level with the right scheme/play calling. So if he's all of a sudden looking mediocre, then the assumption is that Gattis isn't scheming to TVD's strengths. Which is just not a good sign.

Or maybe it's that TVD lost his 2 go to WRs from last year and all of a sudden he's not as good? Look at what happened to Sam Howell from UNC... The kid was a sure fire first rounder after his first 2 years then all of a sudden lost quite a bit of WRs and RBs to the NFL, struggled his last year, and dropped to a 5th rounder.

fwiw, it think Mario is the right guy. Idk if the offense is though but I do believe Mario will adjust if he needs to do (again if this is the offense since we are only 2 weeks into the season). but the pay part - lol we paid golden, Shannon, Manny.

Also, Mario got a late start since he joined us later than other new coaches did. He hired guys who come from successful programs and with that, bring legitimacy.

Hard pill to swallow for us canes fans, but our program was a joke outside of Miami and people didn’t take us seriously. He’s doing it first class and has managed to bring it the best staff we’ve had from top to bottom in 20 years.

If they weren’t the best hires he can fix it later, but when people say “strikes” they mean three mistakes and then he’s gotta go. This isn’t the kind of thing where you even start to think about firing him over.

He’s literally the most qualified coach we could’ve gotten and he only came here because he played here and won Natty’s here. He’s turning our program around and making us legit.
