With Malek Young now done playing(truly unfortunate)

A once great quote says it all...” It’s time to put the women and children to bed and go looking for f***ing dinner!” We still have a couple of solid weeks. The last time I checked the two big DBs had not signed any papers. Time to make your money staff! Do what you were brought here to do. Attrition is part of the game and now you must adapt!

Adding a project like Bethel won't be an issue if we also close with a Campbell and/or Surtain-level prospect. The problem is if he's the only corner we finish with.

We cannot afford to lose the Campbell and Surtain battles after egregiously misreading Jobe's entire recruitment, failing to prioritize Samuel until it was too late, and going 0-for-4 in head-to-head battles with Jim McElwain for South Florida DBs last year. That's largely how we've gotten into this mess of only having 3 returning CBs on the roster, two of whom being seniors.

Landing the Heritage corners would not only address a position of dire need, but it would also send a serious message to other top programs constantly swarming to our backyard for this caliber of player. If we can't win these battles with the longstanding relationships that have been formed and our depleted depth chart at CB, then we're in deep s***. Plain and simple.

You obviously don’t understand anything about DB technique. Saban coaches his DB’s the same exact technique.

If DBC actually understood the game, he'd realize the trail and rip technique is taught to smaller DBs like Young. Jackson, otoh, did not play with that technique. Short DBs are taught to play that way because the can't win jump balls.

This is basic stuff

Basic fact: the last four QBs we faced from Virginia, Pitt, Clemson and Winconsin are poor to mediocre passers and all four played like all Americans vs our Rumph coaches DBs. It’s a fact that our DBs were abused consistently in the last four games. Also, you need to look at the FACTS kid, MJ and Dean are tall DBs and neither was locating the ball either. MJ and Dean were also running with the backs to the ball, never, ever locating the ball. Did you even watch the games?

Jesus you're insufferable.

MJ never located the ball? That's just laughably dumb. How did he have those INTS then? I realize you have legit aspergers, but still, come on.
There was a play where a receiver put his bands across the back of Dean to make the catch, If Dean were to tur and face the ball, he would’ve had an easy interception. The facts are that our DBs are taught bad techniques and the have made bad QBs look awesome. I go to all the home games and I watch all the away games. Our secondary was exposed and abused over and over and over. It will happen again next year if they are not coached better.

I love and support my team but I won’t excuse or defend garbage. You are probably the type of fan that was defending Golden and D’Onofrio. Learn before who post.

Throughout the whole season we would have probably had at least 5 more INTs if not more if our players turned around on passes. It happened every game and no excuse for that. They’ve seemed lost when the ball was thrown and I’m surprised we didn’t have more PI penalty’s

IDK what all the hate on Bethel. The kid is a 6' two way player in football plus he runs track. He runs a 4.3 40. He's physical and aggressive at the point of contact. Played for a top tier SoFl program who just happened to have won the state title this year. It's interesting that people here have projected as JAG. His film is better than a lot of people here speak of. Unlike Tyson Campbell and PS2 who are both superb, no doubt, Bethel plays both ways, which is difficult to do at any level. Imagine if he concentrates on one position? Who knows! I just don't get it. Am I missing something here? 6'0 CBs who happens run 4.3 40s are like monster DTs, they don't grow on trees. Just my 0.2

He didn’t even play much corner his senior year supposedly, if we were to take someone else give me an experienced db

With Malek gone (Hopefully it nothing long term and doesn't effect his everyday life w/o football)

It made our CB situation worse. Rumph only got 2 CBs his first 2 years. Now with young gone we only have 2 capable CB. Apparently it takes a while for DB especially to learn the Manny's scheme.

Edit: If Rumph can't sell Tyson and Surtain on starting day 1 at Miami especially with the relationship they got he gotta go because it makes you wonder when can he convince an elite player to come if not those 2.

Bandy didn't seem to have any issues last year

Bandy barely played til like the UNC game. Carter's minute had been shaky at best till the VT game. Smith ain't see the field til the VT game.

I'm pretty sure most of us were complaining about how little we used our freshman DBs/ Nickel/Dime packages.

Atleast Ivey and Blades are EE’s...

But yes, we must sign one of TC/PS2 even though I don’t think we will. This team needs an alpha 3 and done CB like YESTERDAY.

You outlined part of what makes the Campbell & Surtain battles so important. If not now, when?

We only signed 2 CBs in 2 years because we went a combined 0-for-5 in head-to-head battles against a pair of corches in that span: Butch Jones & Jim McElwain. Thankfully we just signed 4 really talented DBs and now we're fighting the big boys for two of the best players regardless of position to come out of South Florida in years.

Our depth chart is barren. Rumph has longstanding relationships with both kids and their families. They're both desperately needed. We're a preseason Top 10 team coming off a 10-win season. If we can't win these battles after the finishes to the last two recruiting cycles at CB, then why would anyone expect or hope for different results next year with guys like Dent, Stevenson, etc.?

They're necessities, not luxuries -- especially with the awful news about Malek Young. Landing one would be enormous. Landing both would give us one of the greatest DB recruiting hauls in the history of the program. Time to get it done.

Simple solution: move Redwine back to cb and let him cover big, slow receivers. Move Amari carter, Derrick Smith, or Gurvan Hall to his safety spot.

In no space am I a Bethal supporter but if you check Malek senior film it’s primarily at WR/RB.

You obviously weren’t watching Redwine trying to cover 2 star backup WRs in the bowl game. The staff needs to either send out more offers at CB or close with Campbell, Surtain, and Bethel. Seriously, there are 3 CB’s on the roster. We will barely be able to scrimage during the spring even with the EE’s.
