Wisconsin accuses Miami of tampering

Want the player, but would love to see Miami say - "Ok, he can go back to Wisconsin", to see the **** show that would result from that.

He’s not ranting, he’s educating. Lots of sports law experts do this stuff. Michael McCann is another one. Heitner is very professional and I’ve followed him for probably 10-12 years. Trust me, it’s more like journalists on Twitter than a crazy John Ruiz. This is what these guys do.

One other note - someone said we might lose Lucas, but I’m trying to think of how that could even happen. What’s UW going to do? Get an injunction against us to enforce their pay for play MOU that wasn’t legal yet? How would the NCAA rule him ineligible when they say there is no transfer portal? Any other attorneys have any thoughts?
The MOU specifically stated the conditions of being met were the house ruling and enrollment during spring semester and Lucas is not enrolled, so I think their only avenue here is to smear Miami/Lucas and to try to get miami in trouble for tampering. I don't know any path to where they could do anything to Lucas

Right. It’s very strange considering at best what we did is not nearly as bad as what they did, and they have to know that. What are they really trying to accomplish?
I really don’t get it. Like what is the endgame? Show kids not to come for fear of not being able to leave? These kids have agents now. This isn’t some 17,18 year old kid with a clueless parent anymore.

That’s interesting. So they are going to argue they didn’t breach because the money wasn’t due yet. But in that case, this is confusing. They are saying the MOU is valid and enforceable for the athletes now, but not yet - and possibly not ever - for the schools. And no money has changed hands. Also, Miami has tortiously interfered with the contract that may not ever be a contract.

I’d be thoroughly shocked if that happened before he tweeted his was transferring.

But the bright side is if it was D Smiff, he’d be canned. So, silver lining?
I also saw some stuff floating around the interwebs last week about his dad being sick, but maybe not being sick. Who knows. I had flashbacks to Robert Marve days.

yeah I won't pretend to understand as I'm not a lawyer and others on here are more inclined to know, but it seems like the Big Ten (through Wisconsin) got caught with their pants down quite publicly by Heitner and this Lucas situation and the statements tonight were to deter a whole bunch of big ten players realizing they can get out of a bogus deal that's really not enforceable right now.

I still don't understand why Wisconsin would deny lucas entry into the portal, not even sure what they were hoping to accomplish other than to just be ****s

I think your first paragraph answers your second.

you'd think, IF there were any questions into the actual ability to enforce the rev share agreements that B1G teams are using, they wouldn't want a public spectacle (i.e. being the first team ever to publicly deny a player from entering the portal).

they let him enter the portal like every other team has done with every other college athlete ever - and the public would know absolutely nothing about the agreements that were being used and how illegitimate some of it is

I thought the agreements weren’t a secret and it had been reported last year that the kids were signing these, but maybe I’m mistaken? But it’s not like they signed NDAs. So as far as motive, my thought was that perhaps UW was just trying to stall the whole thing and 1) obviously wasn’t going to make the two-day deadline and 2) wanted to convince him to stay for that spring semester because of the contract terms and the House vote in the summer.
