What the Alquadin Muhammad commitment...really means.

Don't you guys think you're putting a bit too much into this commitment?

you should obviously be excited, the dude is a great player, but there were other circumstances at play here. As Larry pointed out there were issues with ND, bama was never really after this guy as they have Demarcus Walker and a few others. Last I heard, he's still planning on visiting ND, doesn't sound like this is really over. Seems the guy took a vacation trip to miami, fell in love with it, and made a commitment. Your class last year and a few of those guys meant more than this commitment IMO, especially Howard and Bush.

All those other circumstances are speculation. Now GTFOH.

/to the WEZ anyway!

The faulty logic indicates fear.

Muhammed said he is done. Not sure why we would listen to the speculation of internet posters rather than just take the kid at face value. He's been up front from the beginning.

Someone is talking themselves down here.

This ***** scared. This ***** scared. This ***** scared.

If this were NCAA Football on PS3, you couldn't even pull this off. Who snags a stud out-of-state prospect with low interest late in the recruiting process???

Al Golden does.

Huh? Just saying, not sure how you get all that out of that commitment.

As I pointed out your class last year would be more indicative of what you stated in the op IMO. You guys got some pulls that nobody thought you had any chance with. And it was big because they were all local guys who were leaving the 'state of miami' which you never want happening. The fact that those guys stayed home signaled a change.

They said Golden flew up to visit AQM the day after he left Miami and finished up his official visit. Golden wanted this one BAD. He's raising glasses again tonight in the back of that Italian restaurant. Drinks are on the house.

You have a point but come on man. Looming NCAA sanctions and a mediocre record usually mean 0% chance at OOS guys.

true, but i think those late charges from last year were more important. especially because those guys are the foundation of your team going forward. had golden lost those guys last year it would have been a bad sign. that was the beginning of a turnaround imo.

Getting them to stay was step one and a first important data point. Getting specific guys to come in is step two and another data point.

Nobody is discrediting what we did last year. It was the groundwork for the future.

Muhammed is at a major position of need. **** man you know we had like 13 sacks as a whole ******* team last year?

Muhammad said this as one of the reasons he committed. Golden showed him how bad he wanted him.

****, did you even read Lu's post?

While we made late charges at stars Tyriq Mccord and Deon Bush last year, they were still relatively local big names. Both guys were from Florida and Bush went to High School 15 minutes from the Coral Gables. Golden and his staff have made it clear that their intent is to lock down the South Florida area. It's often said that some "lesser" South Florida recruits should never be overlooked over the "bigger" name out of state guys. After all, our history indicates that's when we've gotten in personnel trouble in the 90s and the early part of this century.

Nevertheless, in order to take this program to the level we all expect, the University of Miami must cherry-pick star players who specifically fit their system. In the case of selectively grabbing top name guys who they've evaluated to be impact players in their system, this effectively serves as an extremely important data point for the program.

Night and day difference between recruiting BG (Before Golden) and AG (After Golden). This is a really big commitment. I will be the first to say that when I read that AQM had asked Grace for his UM cap that I believed he was going to use for the infamous "cap game" with us not being chosen. Even the reports coming out right after his visit saying that he was "blown away" did not fully convince me he would commit to us. My incredulity is based on what LuCane makes so clear in his post, that it is really tough to get OOS kids from top high school programs to come to a program that isn't all the way back. In fact, getting top OOS kids is difficult period. The turning point for me was when I heard did not go on the visit to ND. At that point I began to think that he might be a strong lean or silent commit for us. Peter's update earlier in the week was just that much more reassuring.

When the NCAA finally makes its penalty known, I think Golden will clean house in south Florida and recruit with the best of them on a national level as well. It's cliche to the point of being funny, but Coach Golden really does get it!
