So who the **** wouldn't give Mendoza the guarantee that he would start???Mario does not have carte-blanche.
Here is what I heard during New Year's Eve:
(1.) Capital is not an obstacle. UM-Health is generating free cash flow of approximately $400M per annum, and barring extreme negligence, it will continue to do so for the foreseeable future;
(2.) UM will use this capital to finish building a sterling campus and it will invest heavily in football (Law School is also a priority). The new president strongly supports the Football Program as does MasTec, Southern Wine and Spirits and several Bacardi shareholders (simply naming a few).
(3.) I was told, "we have more capital for NIL than any non-Texas SEC school, but cannot obviously compete with the Texas oil schools". They will not emulate OSU, but there is ample cash flow available for the Program.
(4.) 'Backers' of the Program are concerned and expect paltry results during 2025. Mario "has to produce a stellar season during 2026, or they will fire him". They have never paid someone such a high salary and have provided Mario with unprecedented resources.
(5.) I was wrong. These gentlemen expect UM to build the Football Facility. The Medical Center's cash flow stream, coupled with a strong donor pool, will be fully utilized and not forsaken (not just Football).
(6.) The model is Emory University when they received $105M from Coke's CEO Woodruff during 1979, and then received even greater donations from the subsequent CEO - Goizueta (these guys were very close to Goizueta).
(7.) According to a close family-member of Mendoza (not his parents), Mendoza wanted a guarantee that he would start. Others on CI can verify this, but that is what they said. Mendoza should have waited and watched the Pop-Tarts Bowl, because he is obviously a better QB than Williams.
So skip season tickets for 2025 because we are mailing it in and are ok with it?Mario does not have carte-blanche.

Good thing he changed his mind on January 13thGood thing we were able to recruit him.

Why does Mario get to fold next year, and have 2026 to produce? Produce what exactly -- Playoffs?Not at all. These are successful businessmen. They recognize that we lack a QB, Damien, an elite DT, half of an entire secondary and an elite WR; and we "folded" during the last four games of the season.
Barring a banner Portal campaign that has thus far been a complete debacle, they are expecting a poor season next year. Their point was that Mario better produce during 2026. If he wins 10-games next year, their position would be different.
I can attest that both of those gentlemen know Mendoza's relatives quite well.
Garnered an army of loyalists that don't give af about the results because they enjoy the journey.

Maybe we should have paid closer attention to Oregon's two straight slaughters at the hands of Utah. Not a good look for a coach getting paid $8 million a year on a 10-year contract...

Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn once in awhileHe did beat OSU with Oregon players...
Yep, Mario pulled one out of his ***. Better hope he does it again or the 2025 season is going to be a long one. Unless you think Emory is the answer at QB lolSo we recruited him and he played for us.
