welcome to the u thread - Derrick Griffin

According to milian, He's hearing Derrick will have an uphill battle qualifying academically at miami.

Milian doesn't have any source brah...he knows as much as we know

Well everyone who doesn't have their green and orange glasses on seem to think he'll have a hard time qualifying. Some of yall just wishful thinking that he'll magically qualify. I would think some of you would learn by now. I'm not getting excited over this because I just don't seem him getting in this year. Then he's a sign and place kid who I doubt we'll end up at Miami anyways.

What does anything I said have to do with me having my "orange and green" glasses on bruh?

The issue isn't going to be ACT score and GPA...he'll probably get there...but he's going to have a ton of re-taken classes (mostly online) and by his own admission, going to take multiple ACT scores. Not uncommon, but that is just begging for the clearinghouse to hold him up.

actually multiple ACT scores is a good thing as long as his scores are consistent and qualify him. Its the "outlier" scores that get flagged and that the clearinghouse requires a retake. Re-taken classes however.....

Lamar Miller wasn't supposed to qualify but behold, he magically ended up getting straight A's once he signed with Miami.

praying the same happens.

Buddy of mine coached him in AAU. Says the kid has no shot at qualifying unless some higher ups are pulling some strings.

Said Andre Johnson has worked out with the kid on more than 1 occasion.

Everyone likes Derrick an is rooting for him given his tough upbringing.

Oh and my friend said, "absolute phenom of an athlete"

Danny Boy Cane could have cleared this up.

****, it's days like this that make me wish DBC had never gone on that African safari trip.

R.I.P., DBC!

That was a local kid special card from Donna. Randy had a couple of those Aldarius Johnson too...

Those Yahoo ***gots over at rivals don't have him committed and don't even show us on his list. Way to be last again ********.

u still have to be ncaa qualified. donna doesn't do anything there. she obviously can admit kids who don't meet UM's requirements, but, they can't play unless they are ncaa qualified. donna can't do anything about that.

This may have been asked already but how would you guys compare him to Kelvin Benjamin?

Kelvin was a man amongst boys literally he graduated hs at 20 years old. Kelvin should be a TE now he probably runs a 4.65-4.7 and is about 245. Griffin is way more fluid and athletic for a 6'6 guy due to his basketball backround. Griffin could be like Jimmy here and play as a flex TE but he really reminds me of Dorial Green-Beckham at Missouri. Similar size and agility. DGB is a little faster but this kid has better hands. Griffin if he qualifies will play day 1 as a flex TE and be a red zone threat that Miami is missing. Sandland,Griffin,Walford should be some fade routes plays for these guys.

Amazing Al pulled off Griffin and Elder post NSD, both without visits. Hurlie especially deserves credit!! Griffin seems to be serious about his grades now and if thats the case he should qualify. That offense is LOADED!

Al is keeping the recruiting budget down!

I'm a moderator over here, so this isn't just speculation, and as for his actual grades nobody is going to have that, but his high school coach told us on the record that he has "zero chance" of qualifying to play at the next level. I'll be extremely surprised if Miami can get him in this year.

There's zero chance that he can get into an SEC school with his current grades, because SEC schools don't allow you to make up your course load with online classes. Well guess what? That's quite fine at the University of Miami and I'm sure that it's a big part of why he signed here. Especially considering Hurlie B's background in the football offices, I think we gave him gave him a plan for getting enrolled and on the field for this year, otherwise he would have just gone JUCO.

100% speculation on my part, but I think there's a shot. Depends on whether or not he basically has to take High School over again lol and what his test score will be.

some people in other threads say he will be a TE and I know what he was projected at but i would keep him at receiver. Plus he is a basketball player he will remain skinny.. he can do a Julius Peppers move and blow up and play PF in basketball but... We need a tall receiver that can go get the jump balls in the end zone.

He can either be a Kelvin Benjamin / Greg Carr type receiver, or a Kellen Winslow type nightmare at tight end.

His body type is too thick to stay a receiver, or so it looks to me. But he could be a first rounder at tight end.
