Welcome to the Canes, Derrick Smith

I like him if he grows into a LB. Looks slow for DB, and we're stocked up with slow DBs already. We need a big speed infusion back there.

I agree, I like him at LB looks a lot like Jamal Carter getting to the route way to late just to lay a big hit mean while the other team is racking up 1st downs.

Another South Florida 3-star.

We back.

Sure. If Jacksonville is in south Florida

Never heard of the kid. That's kind of the point.

Hey we miss on Jerry Jeudy and all the star kids but at least we got this plan D guy, whoever he is.

Richt doing WORK

You're trolling that's really the point.

No I just don't think the kid is good enough to get a Miami offer.

Could I be any more clear?

You will know how well this staff is capable of hitting on their evaluations with this one, I'll tell you that much.

Reminds me a little bit of the Carlos Armour commitment. Measurable DB with a physical tape shows up one day out of the blue. I hope this works out better.

He does remind me of the typical Bud Foster/VT recruit though-- versatile player, potential at a few different spots, looks/sounds coachable.

Jesus, did anyone watch that tape? He seems to have great range, athleticism, and tackling, while being huge for a safety (linebacker size). Seems like a solid SS. Rankings aren't everything.

Norton was a 3 star OG according to his ranking

Norton was a 4 star. Try again

Kendrick Norton, Trinity Christian Academy, Offensive Guard

247 Composite had him as a 3 Star Offensive Guard, the same Composite score used for Smith.

Rivals had Norton as a 4 star DT

Thurston Armbrister was a better evaluation. At least that kid was local and had some wheels.

I'm sorry, I didn't know you were expecting our whole class to be 5 stars and elite talent after 1 year after underperforming for the last 10+. Please submit an application to be a recruiting analysts for Miami because you seem to be on top of your game and know everything!

Also wouldn't doubt with how things are going at WR recruiting, Deejay to WR, Edwards takes his spot at Corner, and Smith comes in to take Edwards spot at Safety.

I think deejay is playing wr too. Not 1 defensive coach was at his in home but the whole offensive staff was. He found out what position he was playing that same day.

Yeah. In your original post on the subject as opposed to the "he's a three star we back" BS. Meanwhile you're talking about Norton being a 4-star when he certainly wasn't evaluated at DT that high.

And espn had him as a guard. Played in the under armour game as a guard.

You won't know who's the better evaluation until he plays a down at UM.

He was a 3-star. The link is still active

i think this is more evidence Deejay will be on offense.

I think he will learn both sides in the spring and see what sticks. Still like him at CB/FS though. Still hoping we close with Collier/Dean at CB

Dallas playing wr. At first he kept saying he was playing cb but since he found out for sure now he wont say. And not 1 coach from defense took a in home with him.

**** it, wasn't this the kid who wasn't supposed to get an offer? So does this mean Edwards ain't gonna come back into the fold?

Hoping that it's just an SEC coach doing SEC things. Get the kid in because we have the slots available and just process em if it don't work out.

I know we're paying Richt 4 million a year to do something, right?

I'd like to see around half of our class every cycle be 4/5 star kids. That's how championship teams recruit.

Tell me something...if we paid Golden 2 million per year and we're paying Richt twice as much, what kind of upgrade should we expect on the recruiting?

You tell me what's a fair expectation.

Smith been wanting to come to miami all year. Dude kept saying back in the summer in interviews that miami leads and he was commiting soon.
