We wont beat top tier Teams

Just being dead *** honest here we wil make the playoffs but wont win big without the secondary being elite, it will cost us vs a top team come playoff time. We getting carried by Ward and I am enjoying at least being good for once but I got to keep it a stack.

All due respect, Miami wasn't supposed to be "top tier teams" this year. Knew what the defensive limitations were this season with that secondary.

Big portal investments to help fill some holes; 12-13 team the past two years under Mario as he rebuilds Manny's disaster.

Fans had this one circled as a loss in the pre-season and were thinking 10-2 this year; Canes are now 7-0 with a scrappy team.

Tough road game; sold out crowd in enemy territory—Brohm a very solid offensive mind; survival was the goal today.

Florida State. Duke. Georgia Tech. Wake Forest. Syracuse.

Miami survived tough road games at Florida, Cal and Louisville—enjoy the win and what's been a great season thus far.

Asinine to sit here mid-October *worried* about what this team would look like in the Playoffs when the Canes have been to one ACC Championship since defecting the Big East; zero conference championships since 2004.

Playing Russian roulette without a defense that makes more than one stop. Eventually we may face a defense that “holds” us to 38 while they score 42.
The big problem in the second half today was 4th down conversions and STs.

They had a KR for a TD and a fake punt for a first down conversion - along with what, 4 4th down conversions?

We got stops, but we couldn't close the door.

how would we cover OSU wrs? They have enough talent on the OL to give that goofy QB time and thats enough for them to get open. How will we create pressure vs similar OL talent vs similar DL talent we present? Bruh you need some sort of defense if you want to compete with top tier teams thats just how it is in the sport when its late, NFL playoffs its the same ****. You need a defense bruh you have to trot out 1st round potentials at every level of the defense and we do not have that vs top tier teams its just facts fam.
Watch it live

I agree with your first post, but disagree with this one.

You don't need to trot out 1st round potentials at every level, but you do need competent play. Jaquan Johnson was a 6th round pick (and is currently unemployed). Rayshawn Jenkins is a 4th round pick (and still going strong in the NFL).

Both would be gods amongst men if they were in our secondary this year and would make a world of difference.
Jenkins was a player though he had NFL potential and was a find where as we knew JJ was slow and tiny for a S so his shelf life would be short in the league.....that didnt take rocket science to know. Jenkins had speed and some size and made plays in the league, we knew he would make it. JJ I knew would not do well I said it.

Here's the thing --

There are no top tier teams.

There isn't a dominant defense in the country. Everybody giving up big plays.

As I said a few days ago, we can lose to anybody, but we can also beat anybody.

I don't see any dominant teams on the landscape tbh.

Exactly.

Alabama just let Vanderbilt put 40 on them in a loss.

Georgia let that same Alabama team put 41 on them.

Would love to see a more stout defense—and over time trust that Miami will become a better unit—but in the current 2024 college football landscape, scoring points and a high-flying offense is more important than a killer defense and good enough offense.

cry about it Op it’s one game at a time. Sure the defense isn’t the best but offense can score points on anyone.

Elite? We just need "average" and we'd be a championship caliber team. This defense may be worse than the DNofrio years.

From now on he's Lance Gui*ry
I dont think its Guidry thats where I will disagree. It falls on Mario if he knew the secondary was weak correct it and hes trying to do that this cycle. He been attacking position groups one class at a time. The only thing I dont understand is why he attacks one group, attack them all each class. Unless there is a reason that I dont know
