We should bring back both coordinators

Our offense is not in sync and hasn’t been since maybe a&m but that was only game 2 so I would hope u have 2 weeks worth of plans but as the season went on and teams have adjusted we kinda have an identity crisis… To me its three things going on just from a outside perspective

1. Dawson is learning on the fly. This is only his 4th year not being under dana, and those 3 years were almost 6 years ago. This would explain why the offense is not in sync and seems so basic. He doesn’t have a full staff of people who know his system and can contribute to the entire plan..Also idk if Dawson is a fully seasoned coordinator to know what he want his offense to look like. If u aren’t a seasoned coordinator that has been in different situations (like guidry) it can be difficult to adjust to everything without a good support staff familiar with your style of offense.

This is why I think we see a creative play here and there but dont see it consistently. For example the nc state game is the first game i saw multiple rpos that weren’t just hitches or tunnel screens then we just don’t see it much anymore ..its like he’s adding stuff as the year goes on but it doesn’t look in sync to the rest of the gameplan, its like its a throw in play..This could also have something to do with him getting here late and not being able to install everything he wanted to.

2. Mario has his hands in this offense. It was said by a commentator that dawson said he basically had to convince mario that he will not just throw it every play lol. Respectable posters on here have said he had to make concessions to mario about certain things and that can hinder you as a coordinator if you are trying to please the hc while also trying to come up with something that can work for your current personnel it can cause problems because almost dawson entire career he has a hc that lines up with his way of thinking, this is a different situation the hc philosophy is totally different than what he’s accustomed to ,that can be difficult for someone who hasn’t had much experience in different situations

3. This one is, it can possibly be dawson is just a mediocre play designer that needs a qb to carry the offense along with a game changer at wr.. I say this because some of the plays are just too basic with no creativity to put the defense in conflict. We line up 11p 2x2 and drop back and expect the qb to be on time, have good to great arm talent, have wrs that can consistently dominate 1on1 matchups (which we dont have). Thats not how u should structure an offense in college unless u have a joe burrow

We don’t present difficult problems for the defense to solve, the formations are basic, not much shifting or motion, not much misdirection..See how Louisville constantly motioned, constantly gave us different pre snap pictures and/or made it look the same everytime and then boom it’s something different and took advantage of the defense playing a certain way. Thats a skill as a play caller that dawson might not have..

We don’t leverage our run game much, it’s literally just lineup and run.. This past week is one of the few times we actually took advantage of the defense keying in on our run game, the under center play action bomb to colbie even tho it wasnt caught it was an example of using formations and leveraging your run game into big plays in the passing game, another one was that play action crosser to colbie young in the Virginia game. I think this is because the air raid guys have just recently added having a full run game plan into their offense, because it doesn’t blend with everything else they do its like they just do it just to do it.

I hate long post but i been wanting to fully get my thoughts off somewhere lol. I wouldn’t mind dawson coming back, I think we can benefit from having some cohesiveness at the coordinator spots. I think he is a solid OC that we can win games with especially when we upgrade the skill positions and I think he can learn from this year and get better… Salute if u read all this **** lol

Great post

Your item #3 is what gives me the most concern with Dawson and I e been saying it for weeks

No flow, there’s no move + counter move from him later in the game

Watching him call a game, I could never tell he worked under Mumme or was part of air raid system…. His play designs don’t provide the offense a competitive advantage

Redzone calls are atrocious

I get it if he stays for consistency sake, but, I hope Mario and Dawson realize that top notch QBs and skill guys care about the scheme that they’ll play under…. And Dawson in 2023 isn’t inspiring anyone

I don't know, we went from really great in the RZ to totally meh. Maybe we ran out of bullets, maybe we ran out of QBs, maybe Mario Mario'd.

I'd give Dawson another year to iron things out- reload, get a QB who isn't defective, and throw Mario a chew-toy when he starts barking.

I think most are good with Guidry, but I think Dawson should come back as long as they hit the reset button on giving him a competent QB out of the portal and don't handcuff him. I'm sure there are many who want Dawson to bounce, but I think we're going to see the same thing if you don't give the OC a competent QB and don't handcuff the guy from doing his thing. And yes, I think Dawson's change after the first 4 games is a combo of QB competence and being handcuffed.

Give both dudes control over their sides of the ball and I think the consistency will pay off next year.
Hopefully both are back Josh Pate has way more faith in Mario than we do and he bring me back to earth when he speaks on this team. Mario can’t do another OC search in year 3 he will get somebody no one has ever heard of

He literally just got someone no one's ever heard of..... No one here knew who Dawson was before he was hired.... I can see both sides of the argument for him staying or going and as much as it bothers me to say it I do want to see what he can do if they get the QB position fixed ( Develop what we have, portal..I don't care, fix it).
I saw a lot of things this past season and as I've stated in many posts there's blame to be placed everywhere..... Maybe , just maybe a bit of continuity might help instead of the revolving door policy in effect right now.... In the end it all falls on Mario....

So many teams out there pound the ball but are creative. We are boring. With a worse line we’d be 4-8

Keep Guidry. He’s great. Louisville did have our number tho. But really them and unc were the only ones to get us. Unc got short fields all night because of TVD and they have a first round pick at qb. Louisville has brohm who just in general knows offense. He’s good. He does this

You run it back. This program and players need continuity.

At the end of the day, if Dawson is shown the door…Mario is going to be hiring his replacement anyway.

You can’t keep running through coordinators like we have been since 2018.
I agree with this. Guidry is great but lsu may come calling. Give him a raise. I’m 50% on if I like Dawson. Could go either way. But this program needs stability in a bad way

I agree that we need an upgrade at OC. I would take Ponce or Dorsey in a heartbeat. Assuming for a moment that Dorsey would be interested in the job, I just can't see him being able to coexist with Mario in that context. Mario would try to turn Dorsey's offense into a Bro Style Hybrid and Dorsey would promptly tell him to eat a bag of dycks.

Ponce is more realistic plus he runs a power spread so that could be the perfect style of offense that at least in theory could please a meathead like Cristobal and guys like us that call for speed, pace and space. We would however still be saddled with Mario's moronic game management. FML!!!!!!
It's not your fault, but no chance @Memnon was being serious. He has been on a sarcastic streak for a while now 😂

Personally, I think Dawson leaves on his own terms... pure guess. Similar to his Kentucky tenure where he and Stoops sat down at year-end and just said this isn't working for either of us. Don't think it matters for Dawson either way because if he stayed at Houston, I'd bet Dana is fired at year-end too and he'd been jobless in both scenarios. I would probably replace him but I also want some continuity and some mobility at QB and I think we would be fine.

Mario isn't bringing in a big name guy. There's zero chance of someone leaving a good P5 job and coming here for a guy that is 0-2 on coordinators and firing them after 1 season, no QB in place, and has Mario's reputation.

*IF* Dawson leaves or is replaced, rule out Briles, Mullen, Dorsey, Lebby, etc. and just hope we don't go to Ponce, Coley, or Arroyo. Ponce might be close to best case scenario if Dawson leaves with this kind of track record. Add in what the QB room might look like and we could struggle finding someone new. Catch 22 because you won't be landing anyone decent in the portal without knowing who the OC is going to be and we have to land a portal QB.

Realistic candidates would be Ponce or Tim Cramsey - Memphis actually has a top 10 offense at 37 per game, they were top 20 last year, and he had Marshall at 27th in 2021. Not a terrible candidate and has worked for Mario at FIU.

Maybe we could get lucky and take Kirby Moore from Missouri. Most realistic guy with a current P5 job, with results, but we could out-bid them and potentially lure him away as an "upgraded" destination. He may be in the Boise State HC job conversation.

Don't kill me for saying it but Petrino actually has A&M in the top 20 offenses in the country. 17th at 34 PPG.

Replacing one or both coordinators would just mean added pressure to getting everything right with a weak schedule in '24.

With that being said, Dawson has a lot of self-improvement he needs to work on.

This is absolutely scheme, nothing the players can do here. Dawson's adjustments have been non-existent for the better part of the last 6 games.

Dawson running this kiddie offense, this is ACC ball not the American Athletic Conference. Hate to say it but looking back that Texas A&M game might of been the worst thing that happened to Dawson because it gave him a false sense of superiority that his offense was good enough that he didn't have change anything week to week

[BGCOLOR=initial]Yeah I realized that right after I posted my response lol. I agree with him. I prefer to have an OC outside of the Miami club but right about now I'm open to pretty much anything. [/BGCOLOR]

[BGCOLOR=initial] Edit: Are you Stan? [/BGCOLOR]

The problem with the fanbase is that we are all sick of not being the Miami of old. Who knows if we can ever get back, but we do need patience. I see a better team this year vs last year.

Dawson sucks, but that’s why he’s here.

Cristobal isn’t going to target an OC that puts up a ton of points. That’s just not what Cristobal wants to do.

So why get rid of him? To bring in somebody like Jim Chaney to run his big man pro-style offense and the fans can talk about what a great hire because that’s the kind of OC that Kirby Smart wants?

Dawson is probably as creative as it’s getting under Mario unfortunately.
