We should bring back both coordinators

Dawson sucks, even if Mario is tampering. He's got to go.
I agree that he has to go!!! I don’t care if anyone says otherwise but I honestly believe he’s to blame for that sh! !t show at the end of the game vs The GOTTDAMM Honey Bees 🐝! It’s probably the reason Wario started meddling with the offense if it really is happening. Fock Dawson and Mario for the ending of the Louisville game also! They both deserve to get sh! !ted on for such incompetence. I’ve been a Mario supporter but that 🐂 💩 they pulled is unacceptable. With a Stud O-Line we pass the ball from the 3 focking yard line???? Why in the Fock???

It makes zero difference. The schedule is worse next year, but so is the overall roster. 7-5.

I don't think there was tampering or meddling until after the GT game.

The call came over the head set to kneel and we didn't do it.

I think that ****ed Mario off and he got more involved at that point. To what degree I have no idea. I think this is who Dawson is and what he likes to run - that is why Mario hired him because it was a similar philosophy. They've modified the run game a little - Dawson didn't run a lot of Duo at Houston but now we do.

I hate our personnel usage and tendencies more than anything. The University of Miami should never be in a 2 TE set with a 6th OL on the field. We're asking a WR to lead block in the run game like a TE. The usage of Horton is mind boggling because he's constantly lost. Many more examples. Then, repetitive running on 1st down. Anything short yardage we're gonna run it right up the *** of the Center. Those are not Dawson. That is Mario Cristobal.
Yes this I agree with!!!

Personally I'm torn.

There's no evidence to suggest Mario isn't meddling in the offense/impacting the play-calling and formations. I trust people like @Memnon when he says Dawson has implemented various styles at his college football stops spanning multiple schools, and is being handcuffed by the man in charge.

At the same time, videos like this highlight his inability to scheme guys open during our losing streak/poor play against teams like UVA. That video clearly showed poor spacing. His redzone offense has been lackluster here.

But if he does leave, I fear Mario will take another 2-3 months to hire an OC, and that means potentially missing out on key portal acquisitions (which we cannot afford, at all).

Portal HAS TO BE a slam dunk class. I'm talking FSU, Ole Miss levels of success - if we want to win 9-10 games in 2024.
I'm in the same boat. Dawson hasn't exactly blown me away when it comes to making the little changes necessary to keep the offense fresh throughout the year. I was really disappointed that his reaction to TVD having turnover issues was to just go completely into a shell on offense and hope the defense could pitch a shutout every week. Playcalling has been up and down for the most part. I liked the aggressive calls early in the season but once again, TVD throws a few picks and all of the sudden it's "Run on first and second down and try to convert third and long with a tough pass" and "take a knee with 1:30 left in regulation and 3 timeouts and hope to win in overtime." I feel like a lot of that is attributed to Mario's influence and that's why I'm not really sure we can do any better than Dawson. We're going to run a deliberate offense even if it means we score less. They want to emphasize the run game and the offensive line but we saw exactly what happens to the offense when the QB can't carry it. Not ironically, they ditched a ton of the max protect sets against Louisville in favor of actually using receivers and TVD looked very good again. Of course, Tyler got hit more because they couldn't hide Mauigoa's slow feet with a tight end and running back to help but for the first time in weeks, the offense looked good again. Next year, I expect similar line play with the younger guys making the jump and we've got a decent infusion of talent at running back and wide receiver but what are they going to do about quarterback? We desperately need portal help regardless if what happens with Van Dyke. Jacurri Brown didn't play a single snap all season for some still unknown reason and while Emory's broken arm should be fine, he really struggled with accuracy issues when he did play this year.

Bottom line is, if Dawson isn't back, they're not going to bring in some hot shot offensive guru because Mario won't hire him. He'd likely be replaced with one of the same old, same old guys who will keep the pace slow and the scoring numbers low. I'd rather have Dawson than Coley, Ponce, Arroyo, Candle, or whoever the head coach is at Columbus.

I think Dawson sticks around at least one more season. Going to a 3rd OC in 3 years would not be a good look for Mario. I think Dawson gets one more year as much as I think he sucks.

They may have a coming to Jesus agreement/revelation in off season evaluations but if everything looks the same next season with a different QB, he needs to get stepping as Mario will be hiring a new 3rd OC to save his job if we have similar results and similar record next year.
Yeah I can’t even really pinpoint our problems on offense because it’s basically everything other than the OL

QB play is horrible
Playcalling horrible (most of the season)
WRs lack a real threat
RBs lack a real threat
We don’t use the TEs

So like I dunno…fire Dawson?

That last part is where I’m at and I hate that I feel that way…but how can we not?

It's not that I'm in love with Dawson, it's that I despise the other realistic options.

Maybe not Ponce, totally. But if he was going to get the call, he should have gotten the call in 2022 instead of Gattis. (He's a much better coordinator)

But, yeah....Dawson! Yay!

All I know is that the last two seasons we sat around waiting for Jason Candle

I don’t hate Dawson. I think he can be a good OC to be honest but as usual something with us is just “off”

My concern is the QB room. People keep mentioning the portal but man I’m just not seeing how we get anything other than scraps

I am a huge fan of our WR room, they play hard and probably above their pay grades, but the FSU game proved how far we need to go with talent there

So Dawson is obviously gone now.
