I think you and I both were. I always thought Surtain was a bit of a pipedream, just tried to stay optimistic. But I really really wanted Wilson.

I really hope the 10th hire is a bonafide recruiter on the defensive side that can take over LB for Manny. Because taking 1 LB, letting Wilson slide out of here, along with the late D-line recruiting was baffling. On the other side of the ball, I have zero issues with the offensive recruiting. They hit on just about everybody I can think of (maybe could've got another OT).

When he mentioned Mel Tucker, I nearly fell out of my chair. Going back to Macho's debate with Rumph vs Kirby, I could see where Macho was coming from when you compare resumes - Kibry's a Saban disciple. Mel Tucker was basically kicked out of the NFL for being so horrid. Bear fans will never want this guy to step in the city of Chicago again after his horrible tenure.

I am curious to see how UGA's season goes year 3. They lost a crap ton on that side of the ball. UGA had the number 1 class two years in a row, and a top 5 in year 1. For Kibry's sake, if he doesn't make the playoffs, that seat should get hot with how they've invested in him.

They definitely respect him. I just don't think he's a very persuasive person. They like him but maybe don't look at him like someone "they gotta play for!"

You need recruiters that are gonna basically get in a kid's head and make him believe that their school is the only place for them. Rumph is a very chill guy. He seems like he'd be more likely to take no for an answer. Like "it's okay Tyson, do what's best for you."

It don't work like that. It should be "Listen kid, I'm gonna tell you what's best for you! I've been around the block!"

Yep, my guess is that they still see Rumph as their pee wee coach rather than a big time college DB coach that can get you ready for the pros.

He is a position coach on a major college football program. Recruiting is a significant aspect of this work. His job is to not take no for an answer.

Anytime your chasing top tier recruits, it's going to be a battle. But nowhere is it more cut-throat or ruthless than in south Florida. His temperament is exactly what turns off recurits. This guy is not cut out to recruit at UM.
