*Update Eddie Nunez Emerges as Strong Candidate for Miami AD Job

I highly suspect we are getting an existing P5 AD. That’s the target. Nuñez is not the front runner.

Btw, for the Cuban conspiracy folks….Nuñez hasn’t even lived in Miami since college.

He took a stepping stone job so he could be the #1 some place. We might be dumb to hire him but the thought process on him taking the job makes sense. Now he's in consideration for an ACC job.
Radakovich was an associate at LSU back in the day, went right to GT as AD. You don’t need stepping stones like UNM if you got the goods. Blake James went to Maine as a stepping stone.

Long but pretty good read. This guy seems like a slime ball if you ask me.
Not a great look from financial spending context. With that said, highly doubtful he wields the unfettered authority the article states and implies.

If anything, I think it is easier to do things on an expedited basis in today's world. I have no idea if UM has experience hiring people during the last year and change, but Turnkey sure as **** should. From talking with a number of friends in a number of industries, Covid has accelerated the hiring process because you do not have to figure out travel schedules, when people will all be in an office, etc. You can schedule Zoom interviews as schedules permit and move it along.

I agree completely on timeframe. I guess I was talking more about being able to judge a person in-person, maybe ask follow-up questions and talk about ideas. In a full-day in-person interview, I would think you would be able to accomplish a lot in that regard, which might be broken up a bit more if there were multiple Zoom interviews over a couple of days. Again, there are pros and cons to each approach, I was just thinking about why it might have taken "until the second interview" to talk more in depth about the possible future structure of UM's Athletic Department.

I don’t even think he’s Cuban. Never heard of a Cuban who fell in love with basketball. Football, Baseball, Boxing, MMA. That’s it.

Could be wrong but I’m Cuban so…

No idea what the job market was in 2017 when Nunez was finally ready to move and I don't know anything about him. I just know judging him on the basketball and football records at UNM ignores alot of things out his control.

Only in Miami bro. Where being Cuban and who you know can get you much farther than being good at your job, lol.

He put it in 14 years at LSU overseeing basketball amongst other sports. I felt the same way when the name emerged, but after reading his resume and bio it is clear he is a qualified candidate.

Is anyone even familiar with Will Wade and the **** he's accused of? They got one of the hottest prep recruits since LeBron to commit to LSU, I mean, come on. He was in th belly of the beast, he's worked with cobras. 14 years at LSU is not working in the Maine ticket office, it's not hiring a former player with 0 experience in administration, it may not be Ross Bjork but it's a qualified professional and leaps and bounds from the old Miami way.

Young, with fire in the belly and some dirt under the finger nails. It's a start.
