Up to #11 in AP, up to #10 in the Coaches poll

This is why college football needs to get away from the emphasis on pre-season polls, AP polls, and coach’s polls.

During the season, rank teams by wins and then point differential. See any world soccer league…3 points for a win, 1 point for a tie, and then goal differential.

Stop all of the fantasy and preferential team treatment nonsense. In any other sport or competitive event, no team with a loss should be ranked higher than an undefeated team. It makes no sense (however, fans of college football have accepted it as normal).

What the **** is the point of playing the games?
Pretty sure "strength of schedule" doesn't mean **** in the NFL, MLB, and NHL.

You're on to something here 😂

I'd also say, "what the **** is the point of having polls every week?"

Meaning...let's not try to project the end-of-the-season each week. Vote for whatever the results year-to-date indicate. If that means a team will be higher when they are undefeated and lower when they lose games, so be it.

Half the season is over. We are no longer guessing as much as we were in Week 1 about "who is the best". We have some evidence now.

And the BEST evidence is W's. Not "good losses".

Truly fascinating thread

1. Our run game sucks
2. Our defense is trash
3. Louisville is terrifying

But yet we should be ranked higher?
number 3 is scary to me if we really think we have a legit shot at making the final 4. if we think Louisville is scary, we got big issues. if our D shows up (the one that played against UF and even then we gave up a huge bust), we win going away. our offense is consistent game to game at this point. the D needs to show up (just be average at least).

number 1 - fletcher looked better last game and looked like our best back. idk if anything is gonna change here other than Martinez may not be a fit for how we like to run the ball formation wise

We are a dangerous team with some flaws for sure

Long way to go

hopefully it all changes against Louisville but things haven't been trending in the right direction. the ranking is appropriate in my opinion.

Momentum how?

By beating an unranked team that would then be 4-3 on the season?

Meanwhile, one or both polls has raised Pedo State's ranking EVERY SINGLE WEEK except one.

"If we win out". Yet I don't see anyone saying that about any SEC or Big 10 team. And that is the issue.

It's the Human Centipede effect of SEC/Big 10 in the AP and Coaches polls.
The last memory the media has of Miami is playing back-to-back close games against lesser opponents. And in both of those games, a narrative has begun to prevail that we needed the help of the refs to win. Right or wrong, that’s what’s happening.

If we beat Louisville convincingly, the last two games become a distant memory. We certainly don’t get anyone’s benefit of doubt because the ACC is perceived to be weaker, so we need to start playing our A/B game instead of our C- game to garner attention again.

You’re right to be frustrated, but I don’t know what we can do to change the bias in the media. It is what it is. We just have to rise above it.

this and we made two **** offenses look explosive and both followed up with terrible performances after our game.

I agree, “polls” are objective and need to be replaced with “actual rankings”. How is it every other sport in the world can figure this out, but college football relies on fantasy crap.

Been seeing people *****ing all over social media about how Miami should be higher than Ohio State and Georgia. Here’s the thing…Ohio state lost by 1 on the road to number 2 Oregon and Georgia lost by 1 to then number 1 Alabama. While Miami had to rely on last minute touchdowns against unranked teams.

Why sit and worry about rankings now? Win the ******* conference and you have a top 4 seed and a bye.

agreed but thats like everyone outside of maybe Texas right now.

I do think Cam is the best QB in CFb and that will always matter the most. hes good enough for us to win it all.
Through 7 weeks of CFB, we haven seen flaws from many "top" teams but Texas and that's about it.

They might crack against GA this week though.

I did think to myself on the way to the gym this morning if Cam could be our Cam Newton/Deshaun Watson this year. (This would require some/someone on our Defense to step up and play out of their mind)

I think very highly of this team but also think we are being treated fairly in the polls
I quickly checked our poll points from the last 7 weeks and we have continually grew our share of "poll points" in the AP.

Right now we're 125 points from 4th and 105 points from 7th. That's a relatively small difference, but the 12th placed Irish are 300 plus points from us.

We are closer to that top group in "poll point's" than people might expect. Now have we played like a top-4 team, no but I would argue only Texas has looked elite so-far and everyone else has warts they're trying to cover up week to week.

I also think by the time the season is over our schedule won’t look as bad as it does now. Don’t get me wrong it’s no murderers row but these things have a funny way of sorting themselves

I agree with what @BS85 was saying about preseason rankings. It’s like recruiting rankings. These things get set and it’s tough to push off unless it’s obvious. This season has proved to be anything but obvious

Looking forward to seeing Texas vs UGA. Texas looks to be legit.
I also agree that we need to play better because our schedule does not give us any room to continue to win but in scary fashion.
And lastly, if you had told me in August that we would be where we are now I would have been ecstatic. It's been a long time since I've looked so forward to seeing Miami play each week.

Yes.

USC took Penn State to overtime and dominated a lot of that game. Yet NOBODY is treating them the same as Miami beating Cal... and we traveled further and our game lasted until 2:30 AM.

It's a double standard. Alabama barely scrapes by Missisippipi State and it's "oh great toughness, great come from behind victory." Georgia comes from behind and loses to Alabama and it's "oh they showed a lot of heart."

Miami comes from behind and wins and "you guys don't deserve it, you're really 4-2"

It's prejudice and bias and nothing else. A total double standard. If anything it proves Miami is back. It's ALWAYS been us against the world, it's good to know that 30 years later the irrational hate for Miami hasn't dimmed at all.
We don't get the benefit of the doubt as a program because we sucked the last twenty years. Is it right? No but that’s the reality.

Yeah, but that's not momentum, that is just "trying to make people forget about close games". Which is fine, but somehow other schools don't have to do the same thing.

That's all. "Momentum" would be "beating a ranked team". So we have no momentum. We just have to be timid and hope for other schools to lose, and for memories to fade.

It's just bull****. And this is about way more than "this week's polls", we just aren't allowed to talk about it.
