Rumor Underwood flip story

I’m sure this will be unpopular with some, but I HATE the direction CFB is heading when I hear this sort of nonsense. The unbridled arrogance is ridiculous. The void of competition created by consolidation of talent via money is gross. This is not in the spirit of the O’Bannon NIL case ruling.

For the record, I’m not against the players making money. Not at all. I am 100% against a system with no rules or regulations that is turning CFB into whorehouse football.
This is the definition of capitalism. If you can't afford what I'm offering at my price someone else that is interested more than likely will. Supply and demand brother.

I wonder if we will see this bleed over into the NFL? And what I mean specifically is this tweet does not shock me at all, I am shocked some think this is news. Days before signing day a billionaire steps up and wants to buy some croots? It has been happening before NIL, they just talk about it now.

Even if they implement the schools paying the kids and a "salary cap" there will still be NIL. If Barstool wants to pay someone they can, but what is stopping it from happening in the NFL to circumvent the salary cap? I have no idea if Portnoy is a Lions fan but lets say he goes out and tells Tyreek Hill or some free agent Barstool will give you a 50 million marketing contract but its contingent on you signing with the lions? That is basically what this is now.

I hear what you are saying and generally agree, yet somehow talent was consolidated much more before NIL. This sport was BORING from about 2008 until 2022 while Bama, Georgia, and OSU had half a roster of five stars. The idea of a top 3-5 team losing to anyone other than another top 3-5 team entirely disappeared. You didn't even need to tune in to see how a Number 2 vs 10 game would end. This season has been fantastic, and not just because we are good.
You can thank the NCAA for turning a blind eye to those programs during that era.

CFB going the way of MLB, NFL, NBA. Not throwing shade on the majors, I agree, this is a bad precedent. Trying to buy a Natty. Granted still have to play the games. And, it’s been refreshing this season to see a leveling of the field, but as usual money talks , bulls**t walks. But, the reality is this is bs. The money mongers will always find a way to corrupt the game and swing it their way. NCAA needs to grow a pair and cap this ****. And oh yeah, F**k Michigan and their D**kweed fan base.

You talk about consolidation of talent, and its impact on competition, but isn’t this what Alabama/SEC has been getting away with for decades? I’m also for regulation, but **** has been unregulated and unenforced for years… this didn’t just happening now. I far prefer what’s going now vs pre NIL. NCAA will need to get their **** together on regulations and enforcement eventually or cease to exist.

Because of NIL is the ONLY reason Miami & other schools even have an opportunity to sign Elite highly ranked prospects.

Before NIL, that privilege was only reserved for Bama & UGA.

You guys were excited when we landed Francis Mauigoa, Justin Scott, Marquise Lightfoot & kids from this class like Hayden Lowe & Jaboree Antoine right? Well we don't get any of those kids without NIL & the system being the way that it is.

All the flips we're about to land pretty soon, are as a direct result of us having the ability to outbid our competitors. The moment you allow the NCAA to put guardrails on this thing, that will pendulum swing the advantage back in favor of UGA & Bama.

Those teams can't dominate CFB anymore because they can't hoard & steal all the talent from HS & the Portal, that's only possible because NIL is the Wild West. The moment you regulate it, Miami & the rest of CFB is screwed. You can bet the house on that.

The NFL has rules against trying to circumvent the cap and will heavily punish the teams/players/agents if something like that were to happen.

NFL owners are the ones who push for the salary cap not the players. they have no need for something like that.

Oh I know they have rules in place about circumventing, but to me that is kinda like the NCAA rule for NIL that bans pay for play. Its a nice "rule" but how could it have teeth? Also so incredibly hard to prove. We all know about those stairwell meetings in negotiations, all it would have to be is a random meeting between an associate of Portnoy and an associate of Hill. Say if you sign with Detroit he will give you an extra 50 mil he does then barstool just signs him up like the 100s of other athletes they pay.

Also take the nefarious factor out of it. I think most people are familiar with Primanti Bros in Pittsburg right? Well think of any mom and pop shop, if say Hill went to Pittsburg, why couldnt Primanti or some similar establishment pay them only because they are a fan and think a local superstar will increase business but dont really care to promote Hill if say he went to the Bengals or a Steeler rival, to me that is completely legitimate the only difference is one had a conversation beforehand and having to prove that convo is **** near impossible.

I don't like it but this is thr reality of CFB where its just money and greed now. This isn't going to change so so all we can hope is we get the same billionaires to do this for us

I replied to another commenter on the consolidation part - you can thank the NCAA for turning a blind eye. This is not an either/or proposition. This is a lets make this somewhat fair proposition.

I’m all for it as long as Mario can hoard the talent
If he can’t I’m against it

Interesting points. I agree with some and disagree with others. Biggest pushback is without any regulations, I think in time there will be a return to just several “power” schools - the ones with the richest and most willing alumni. My thought is blow up the NCAA and create a new governing body. Hopefully they wouldn’t be as blatantly corrupt.
