Uncle Jethro, do you guys want him back next year ?

Soooo your saying chick could develop into a penetrating DT in the similar mold to Wilkerson who is a beast in the league and who golden recruited and developed at temple?

I want whoever Golden wants on staff. By all accounts the guy (Golden) breathes Canes football to the point of obsession. He IS NOT going to allow some slap ****, ineffective coach to continue to drag down this program. If Golden trusts him, then I sure as **** do.

I love golden as much as anyone else here but so far he has shown an unwillingness to let to go any of his hires by choice. Maybe he is too loyal to a fault? I for one would not be sad to see Jethro go

Chick will never be a pass rusher. He needs to bulk up even more and be a 3-4 run stuffing end.

Bottom line is pass rushing is a skill just like QB anticipation, RB vision, WR sideline awareness, etc... It's no surprise McCord and AQM are already the best pass rushers. They possess the necessary skills.

Chickillo's problem isn't technique. He doesn't doesn't have burst, and he's not a brute who can overpower o-linemen.

not hating on chick but just wondering , if what you say is true, what skills does he possess because he was a pretty highly touted recruit

Imo, Chick is better suited as a penetrating DT. He doesn't really have the explosion and strength to be a prototypical DE in what the staff is asking of him. However, I think in a penetrating front he would be productive there (freshman year).

I've always said I think Chick should be playing DT as he isn't quick enough at DE but is a 100% all the time player.

Jethro is a really good coach. Our defensive line is the most technically sound group I have ever saw. They use outstanding technique on every single play. Our defensive linemen are also great with maintaining their gaps.

Your starting front is Green, Porter/Renfrow, Pierre, and Chick. They are suited for run stopping and they all do a great job stuffing the run.

It is not Jetho because our defensive line plays very well. Most of the blame needs to fall on the DC. If your D front is more suited to run stopping the DC needs to find ways to get pressure besides the front four. Oregon runs the exact same defense we do (hybrid 3-4/4-3) the deference is Oregon's blitz packages. They create pressure in multiple ways with their exotic blitz schemes.

Our defensive line is more productive than FSU's. We have more sacks. As far as recruiting, win games and kids will come. Not many kids are coming to losing programs

I agree. Golden looks driven even more than JJ was. If Golden keeps him, there is a very good reason. Dline has been a problem since before Al got here. Recruiting there is more competetive and any other position because we taught everyone how important it was. Golden has been force to dance tunes he doesn't like because of the mess he inherited. 2014 class is looking strong on Dline. With NCAA done, we will move up the food chain on these high value positions. I agree that if Golden trusts him, then I do too.

It's being said in other threads that talent is our issue, not coaching. So why the displeasure for Franklin?

Why would he start firing guys when they've built a 7-1 club from the rubble and are in the driver's seat to win the Coastal? The jackals are blood-thirsty. You "fire everyone" guys must have felt quite a relief when fsu tuned us up. That sht's been building up in you for 9 weeks now.

Well he is not doing either bringing in talent or coaching.

Well he's not the one recruiting all of our D-linemen. The coaches recruit by region, not by position.

Also...

We normally 2-gap on the defensive line, unless of course it's a 3rd & long situation. That's 2 downs out of 3 that we're not playing with our ears pinned back so you can basically forget about getting any pass rush on 1st or 2nd down. On 3rd down our "pass rush specialists" come in at DE and we pin our ears back. That's the ONLY time we really go after the QB and we're basically relying on AQM or McCord to get there. (unless we blitz LB's, which we only do on 3rd & medium I believe) This style of defense is never gonna register high sack numbers. If you look at D'Onofrio's past you'll probably notice that he's never had a high sack defense. This isn't like the old Miami style of defense where your DL played with their ears pinned back all game and we got tons of TFL's and sacks.

Of course he focuses by region the DL coach inevitably has to "sign off" on a DL recruit. Don't you think?

Obviously Franklin knows who we're recruiting on the DL and he communicates with them a bit but that doesn't mean he's their main recruiter. I've had RB's that were being recruited by DB coaches and vice versa.

THIS!! It boggles my mind how many people on this board still don't know the difference between DL in a 3-4 vs a 4-3.

I don't know if he is a good coach or not because I have no idea how to make those judgements.

I WOULD, however, love to get Eddie O back when he gets ****canned after the season at SC.
