UF vs Miami series thread

How many championships has UF won in Baseball? Doubtful if we had a different coach that the program would be even better. 11.7 Scholarships favors public universities a huge advantage.

Vanderbilt would like to have a word with you.

He's generally right of course. The scholarships do favor public schools. But being dominated for 8 years in a row? That's not completely attributable to 11.7 scholarships.

You overcome that disadvantage by grinding it out in recruiting. Quit being lazy, simply relying on local travel ball programs to tell you who you should sign. There are players all over America who can afford Miami with a combination of 25% baseball money and academic money.

Just a joke. Can't beat them in baseball if we were spotted 10 runs. Completely outclassed

As you're watching the series this weekend, it's important to remember Florida is the best in the country. We have maybe three players who would start for them- including pitchers.

I still want to beat the **** out of them, but hopefully understanding no matter what happens in this series we can still accomplish the goals of the CWS, ACC without winning the series.

A win makes it all the more likely- of course.

And whose fault is it that Miami has no business beating Florida? In case you missed the past 40 years, we used to be pretty good. Now we're going into the Florida series expecting to lose and just hoping to do well in the ACC.

A classic message board fallacy by injecting things that aren't there into your argument. We aren't talking about the past 40 years- we are talking about this year. And this year, Florida is simply better.

We did go to the CWS last year, so I can't throw quite as much shade onto the manager as you are, but Florida definitely has a better coach than we do.

At one point is it fair for we as Miami (FL) fans to start expecting wins against UF, and to judge the state of our program based upon our performance against them? Is next year too soon? 2026?

In my opinion, the fact that we have maybe three players who would start for them (I'll take your word on that), is an indictment of our program, not an excuse to get our asses handed to us for the 8th year in a row.

Again, I am simply stating you'll save yourself a lot of heartache by expecting this. They are better.

I never said it was acceptable in a long-term sense, but it is the truth. Our recruiting has been poor (despite what the rankings tell you), and we have zero chance of winning the national title this year in my estimation, but the CWS is not out of the realm if we get a host draw.

You better have hitters like the 2008 squad (we don't) if you plan on getting to Omaha throwing Woodrey on Fridays. He has Sunday stuff. Keeping the post season streak going is enough to keep me interested, but this isn't a CWS team.

The epic fail vs UiF is beyond getting old!! I try not to judge so early in the season but another series loss to UiF speaks volumes.

Many of us saw this five years ago. But instead of being proactive and landing an up and comer like Mark Kingston, we actually extended the mastermind behind this clown show and have already determined that the next coach will be that guy's right hand man.

Sounds like we have the Bobby Bowden of CBB. And isn't the "HCIW" a bot's son? So there's that on that situation.

One of the most successful college baseball programs in history, and it doesn't make sense to even consider as JM's replacement a guy with actual head coaching experience?

This is the problem with the baseball fanbase. You refuse to accept that this has happened since 2009. You can say "it's just one year" for eight straight years. For you, it's just this year. For some us, it's closing in on a decade.

We went to the CWS because we had the easiest path to Omaha in the Super Regional era, and that is indisputable. Once we arrived in Omaha and played a team with a pulse we were embarrassed.

And if people thought like we did five years ago, maybe Florida wouldn't be better in 2016. And now shrugging your shoulders and saying "they're better" while not expecting the administration to do anything about it means Florida will continue to be better.

Do you people have any grasp of the concept of foresight and vision? We don't have to continue to accept this.

Right. I'm not an irrational or unrealistic fan. I understand the challenge associated with being a private school with limited scholarship money for baseball. I also understand that UF and FSU are both strong programs that will beat us from time to time. The key being from time to time; not all the time. The CWS performance (where we had no business even being) underscored how far behind UF we have fallen. 8 years straight and the gap is only getting wider. It's not acceptable. Football and basketball are in good hands. How about addressing baseball?

Ok. What's your plan for a solution?

Not sure if this is serious, but coaches are let go all the time. There's a way to escort Jim Morris out of the building with dignity. Then conduct a national search and hire a coach who has won and who is passionate about getting to Omaha and winning the whole thing.

FYI - this was also my solution in 2011, but we went with the "HE HAS WON TWO WORLD SERIES" plan, and look where we are five years later.

EDITED TO ADD: Gino DiMare is the lazy answer. We can't pull a Randy Shannon and reward a guy just for putting in time. DiMare is part of the reason why our recruiting list comes straight from south Florida travel ball rosters.

In a sense, that's exactly what we have...though hardly the equivalent for sure.

With Shalala now gone, I think Morris is going to have to take this thing back up a notch or he may not last that much longer.

The 2015 CWS appearance and the hefty load of cash going to Richt & Co. made keeping him around a no brainer for UM...despite most of us recognizing the post season breaks we got paving the easy path to the CWS.

Regardless, no skip would be fired making the final 8...no way....so we may be with Morris for quite a few years even with "satisfactory" results.

We need an injection of unfamiliar in my opinion. A young gun to come in and shake this thing back up...but it doesn't look likely for while.

Always rooting hard for Morris...a true Cane...but it would be a miracle if he could get this program back to where it once was.

UM

If anyone wants to chime in with the excuse that we have to rely on local talent because they can live at home and save money, Vanderbilt has exactly 10 players from the entire state of Tennessee and two of those live in Nashville. Everyone else seems to be able to handle the high cost of private school tuition.
