Campbell is a silent, but I do agree that letting talent leave and go to FSU, UF or BAMA is becoming common. BTW, Nik Bonitto will also be a stud that got away. I've heard that Trevon Grimes wanted to be here after family issues, but was turned away. Taking Grimes would have been a good look. I know the staff is kind of arrogant, but sometimes it can make you look bad with a school. I just don't want to see the STA bridge burnt. It's like how Shannon and Al did with some schools. We've had a bad rap with some coaches at a few Home High Schools for awhile. It's not perfect, but it's better than it was.

If (it's merely rumor AFAIK) we turned down Grimes, it's not a good look for Richt. Kid had very legitimate family reasons for wanting to transfer close to home.

He also had very legitimate reasons for not initially picking the Hurricanes.

Richt is turning the Cane offer from a right into a privilege. It's going to take time, but that's how you do it - not allowing guys that publicly snubbed you back in because their circumstances changed a year down the line.

I will agree that we not pick up a kid who's sad because he picked the wrong school. Those type of kids have to live with their decision, but If it's a family emergency, father or mother is sick or possibly dying. I say just for politics, just take the kid. This will look good with other recruits. They will say, **** he really cares about us kids. These are teenagers with hormones and up and down emotions. Richt will teach them to become men. That's what football and team chemistry is about.

There is one aspect with this whole Grimes deal that nobody seems touch on when discussing his interests in transferring to UM.
Was Urban going to give him a release to transfer to UM?
Because it's all a moot point unless the answer is yes.

I'm sure there is a spot at FIU if Grimes really wants to come home for personal reasons. I support Richt on this one. Recruiting is a cold business. Now, if he played DT I might find a spot for him.

You think Grimes would have come if Golden was still the coach and we weren't on our current trajectory?

Well said. The Grimes' situation was not your typical transfer. Knowing what little I know, it doesn't seem to put us in a good light.

Summary of the last few posts:

- I don’t know anything
- I’m basing everything I know off of ppl that also don’t know anything
- I’m going to question Richt and his staff’s handling off any situation based off of these wild assumptions
- I’m not an expert on anything but I’m going to act like I am

Get a grip people. We have a top 5 class and are positioned to finish strong. Wait until the smoke clears before you prove how wrong you are.

if the family member was "possibly dying" then he should have gone to FIU or FAU instead of UF. he didn't give UM or Coach Richt the time of day. UM sells these kids on staying home for family and he decided he wanted to leave. The next guy will learn from this

If turning down a 4th WR (grimes) strikes the fear of god in playing games with us in SFLA then I think we all can agree its worth it. Great player yes but WR is the least of my worries.

on the grimes front, didn't I read or hear about a month ago how Barnett's receivers were the problem with the offense? Heard they could not get separation or the like. #ijs

If we miss out on the top 3 players in the state, all dbs as well as the best cover guy in the state this, with someone on staff that coached 2 of the 4 this was a flop of a dB class. The 18 dB class was one of the best we’ve seen so we still were able to bring in some talent. But we need at least Campbell for this to have been an acceptable haul imo.

Hall is better than Jobe.

Saban helicoptered in to see Hall. Didn't do that for Jobe

He threw all his resources at Jobe after he knew Hall doesnt play those bag games, he saw an elite db knew he could play the game with and sealed it.

Tough to compare Jobe and Hall there completely different players.

IMO most of these kids no where they are going. It's not much a staff can do to sway them one way or another... maybe for that recruit on the fence.. but for the most part these kids ate going where they want.. For the schools that were recruiting Shaq... they didn't fail... Shaq went where he wanted to go

Most idiots on this board think recruiting is like a NCAA video game.

Yeah because every situation is just like Shaq’s.

There’s a reason a dude like Dameyune Craig gets paid $650k per year and doesn’t even have a position to coach.

Recruiting matters. A lot.

He said “most of these kids” and then followed up with an example of his son. Then followed that up with acknowledging recruiting could matter a lot for kids on the fence. But for every kid on the fence there are 15 that know where they wanna go. But all y’all will disagree because it doesnt fit your narrative. I think poppa Shaq knows more about “most kids” then you and almost every poster on this board does.

Stop trying to ascribe science to any of these opinions with that “for every 15 guys” stuff.

Shaq is a stud and so is his dad. But he doesn’t know the effects that recruiting has on anyone other than his son. And I’m sure a large part of the reason Shaq knew where he was going is because he grew up with a real man running the house who is a giant Canes fan.

Recruiting is huge. And guys get paid tons of money who are good at it. You think Brevin Jordan and Will Mallory just showed up on our doorstep on December 20th? Lulz
I talked to Clemson recruiter at least once a week for a couple of months... talked to Dabo twice Nick Saban once... I guess their salaries wasn't enough... I'm not so dumb not to know that recruiting is an intricate part of every program.. not to use Shaq as an example... Al Blades was coming to Miami regardless... Mike Pinckney was coming to Miami regardless... There are cases when kids are on the fence and recruiting may sway their decision... Auburn was never a school of interest until they started recruiting Shaq the same with UGA but I knew he wanted UM and their efforts wasn't going to change his mind ... Josh Jobe wanted to go to Bama ... and when they came courting .. giving him the attention that he wanted... he was out... All I'm saying all a program can do is find the kids that suit their needs court him and convince him that they are the best thing since the wagon wheel... and if that Jedi mind trick doesn't work then the kids go where he wanted to in the first place... IMO winning or a chance at winning is the best recruiting tool a program has to offer

Not really when the intent was to play both at safety. And imo, Hall — who is almost three years younger iirc — looks like a better prospect than Jobe as a safety. And if you want to get a sense for what type of athlete Hall is, just watch him return kicks.

I don’t even think we are disagreeing.

I agree that there are some guys set on certain schools for a variety of reasons. Some of those reasons include being indoctrinated properly by great Canes for their entire lives. The vast majority, however, are not and can be sold by great salesmen.

Exactly. Hall is a guy with tremendous athleticism who transferred that to the football field consistently. Jobe is similar athletically but has never been anywhere near the player Gurv has been.
