Tulane QB Darian Mensah enters the Portal

The question is - if we don't get Mateer or Mensah, is it worth splurging on a QB that is marginally better than an Emory versus investing that in overhauling the defense?

I may get roasted for thinking that as we really haven't seen enough of Emory. I acknowledge that I'm probably wrong here but I'm just not convinced the Weigman, Moss, Maalik's of the world are significantly better than Emory. That's more an indictment on the overall talent pool in the QB portal as opposed to my thoughts on Emory's ceiling.
Emory isnt close to weigman or moss…and im not all that high on those two

Arnold is my QB1 in the portal so I get it. I’m also a believer of Miller Moss if he were to come. Dude would get 3500 yards and a ton of TDs in this offense with Miamis oline. Especially if it’s a package deal with Duece Robinson and Zach Branch.
I’d sign up for that scenario

Probably going to be the most coveted qb in the portal. Going to be hard for us not knowing Dawson's future with him most likely taking a jump to be a HC. Have a feeling we won't know much about the qb position for a little while unfortunately

Jesus guys, some of the excuses you make. Look at the tape. This guy is fantastic. His numbers are fantastic.

You're worried about the competition he's faced? You realize we just took a guy from Incarnate Word and his Pac 12 film involved fumbling 30 times.

You realize Tulane just went head to head with Jennings and SMU and it was a 17-14 game in the 4th quarter before SMU added a late touchdown? (Pratt was Tulane's QB).

Mensah is definitely a take.

Yeah if D$ took the time to put out a whole profile and name to watch with this kid it’s hard to believe we haven’t contacted him at ALL sumn ain’t adding up

You've got to be kidding.

Because a writer "puts out a whole profile", that becomes a binding obligation for the coaches to recruit someone?

Let's try a different angle, why would an agent come out and publicly name a program for NOT recruiting a player if that program is actually recruiting the player? I mean, I know Mario loves his counter-intel, but this seems a bit much.

This is just weird, for people to insist we must be recruiting a guy that we apparently are not recruiting.

Maybe things will change, but it would be more likely that we are prioritizing other players at that position.

I'm probably with you on that, especially with Weigman as I do like his tools and of the 3 (Emory, Moss, and him) think he has the highest upside.

However, the guy is injury prone having never played in more than 6 games thus far in his career. I watched a good amount of USC this year and I honestly just don't see it with Moss as a player or as a leader.

The right decision is to take an experience QB for the sake of taking one so all your eggs aren't in the Emory basket but all I see right now are a bunch of mid QBs that won't give me a ton of confidence heading into the season.

Mateer changes that and truly think there's playoff potential with him. Mensah gives me some hope but still a lot of unknowns. Weigman is interesting if he can stay healthy. Outside of that, it's a bunch of 8-4 / 7-5 type QBs IMO.

Idk I guess seeing all the Miami writers/insiders bring him up when talking about Miami targets in the portal then hear that’s there’s no contact/interest at all was a lil odd but you’re right, hard to argue when his own agent is saying otherwise 🤷🏾‍♂️

Definitely not in the ride with Emory camp. You bring in somebody no matter what to push a competition at least and let the best guy win the job. However, I'm glad we're not pursuing this guy. Wasn't that impressed

I’m a huge Mensah fan. The first time I saw him play I was shocked that he a RS freshman. The man was dropping dime after dime against K-State. He was so good that I was randomly watching Tulane games all year. Some guys have the it factor. Mensah has it. Highlights don’t do this man justice. Major disappointment that we aren’t pursuing him
