Tulane QB Darian Mensah enters the Portal

Ewers would be a no brainer. I think he would be #1 portal guy by a mile if he gets in portal
I am not sure about that. This is a guy that peaked as a sophomore and has trailed off since then. He went from a 1st round draft pick after 3 years to now sticking around and taking a 5th year? That does not scream no brainer.

Checked out his stats today. Hoping there isn’t any thought inside Hecht that this is the guy we would wait for. No bueno this year with strong talent all around him. I understand why they are ready to hand the keys over to Arch.

Wtf going on how manny steal a top target
That's what I don't get. Mensah was considered by multiple sites to be one if, if not the, top QB target in the portal. I'm surprised some other bigger program didn't pick him up. He basically only went up a half step in programs.

Especially jumping with the 1st offer too is really surprising

If Duke really gave him $1m+ I'm not surprised he jumped at it, especially when Big10/SEC & programs like us weren't knocking down his door.

This is from a Washington Post article from just before he went into the portal:

But then there was Mensah, who had zero NIL deals — amounting to $0 in earnings or commitment — and initially chose the Green Wave over offers from Idaho State and Lindenwood. If Sumrall picked him, he would buck at least one modern trend in major college sports, ignoring money and reputations to make the right football choice.
....
But as it stands, the Green Wave’s reality is that it can’t spend with most power-conference teams. When Sumrall named Mensah the starter in August, Tulane’s nonprofit, booster-funded NIL collective — Fear the Wave — did give Mensah a modest deal for the season. Michael Arata, one of the collective’s leaders, said it didn’t feel right not to pay the new face of the program. (The collective could have technically waited, seeing as it hadn’t signed a contract with Mensah for 2024.) Throughout the year, the collective sprinkled more on the deal, according to Arata, who didn’t reveal the value but said “it has grown as Darian has grown.”

I'm surprised to see that Mensah ended up at Duke. It shows that these places at 247 or On3 or whoever don't know what there talking about. I remember watching one of them say that Mensah could end up at Alabama or some big SEC school. Good grab for Duke to replace Murphy. Makes me wonder why Syracuse didn't jump on Mensah.

Makes me wonder by Mensah didn't take a few visits first.

Committing to the first offer you get seems premature.

pure guess on my part but I'm guessing whatever they gave Murphy last year, they gave it to Mensah and they probably felt like it wasn't getting better then that. Going to Duke is such a risky move, I hope he knows what his doing. They lose Star Thomas on the offense and Oldham we watched a bunch of Duke games this year on CIS and they aren't known for their offense.

I'm still not sure if he's good or not. He often looks good and his numbers reflect it, but then, he'll make the occasional stupid throw. Not like Cam overextending and trying to make a play out of nothing, but Ewers just makes some head scratching throws in the course of the regular action.
I watched a couple of Texas games and he does make some head scratching throws. He gets confused and can’t diagnose the defense coverage when they change it before the snap.

Ewers has horrible pocket awareness. Multiple times he just gets leveled by a rusher from his blindside. It would do him good to stay in school and put more good film on tape but if he ain’t figured it out by now, I doubt he ever will.

I'm happy with didn't get this guy.

Nothing on tape shows me he's better then Emory.
