Travis Johnson decommits

Of all the TE recruits that I thought our staff would bump loose, TJ is the last one I would've guessed.

They know a **** of a lot more than me though, so I'm not too worried.

Huge loss.. Beau or not. STACK CHIPS! This kid is talented and can line up in multiple positions offensively. He has the ability to make a big impact on a college team with added weight and a good work ethic. We need to continue to recruit him.. I'd rather him than Kerr (who could become an offensive lineman, but that's yet to be seen).

Beau can do everything you just said TJ can do

and is not two better than one? Stack chips sir !

Vincent Jackson said on his twitter that Travis decommitted because of our staff? Guess we cooled on him

I really liked Johnson and what he could be...but in a small class, I understand.

agreed

TBH of all the TE's (some potential OT's) he probably had the least upside. Amazing receiver and could've been utilized in a great way but probably more of a luxury signee given our situation. Too small to be an all-around TE IMO

I'm pretty sure someone here posted Travis Johnson highlights recently and I remember watching them and being pretty unimpressed.
With a small class, this is good news IMO

Said it before not just now. Seen unheralded small high school players shut him down. Not big loss. Excellent hands though

Johnson was unlike any tight ends on our roster. I wouldn't have even called him a tight end. A pass catcher, really. He never would've played on the line unless he was going to flex out or run the seam if we schemed him to break clean. He would have been a motion man. A guy you try and line up and find a mismatch. I think he could've given the offense a player we just don't have, but has value down the road. But at the same time, the niche would have been so small, that, as I said...I understand. In a small class, you only have so much room and the players you bring in need to project to contribute higher.

I still would've made room if he was coming, as this kid has been committed since the summer...but, not my call. I would have cut all but two of the current tight ends on our roster for Johnson.

That's why you develop... you speak as if he's reached his ceiling already

Best of luck to the dude. He repped us hard while we had him. He'll be solid for someone else. It's gonna be a wild next 2 months in recruiting

Well, it looks like he took an OV and then an in-home w/ Vanderbuilt (at least thats what is being posted). Looks like Al saw it as an red flag (kid is about to leave) and we turn up the heat on Sandland and the kid from Notre Dame.

I thought it was very strange that the team would continue to chase TE's (JUCO and HS) with three on board (one being an OL). I guess now we know.

I saw this kid as an Aaron Hernandez type. He played good HS football competition and at a school with nice football pedigree. It's a shame. I liked his game.

This class doesn't have the room for players that have a longer development projection. 15 guys that need to fill needs right away. With so much need on the defensive line (that hasn't even committed yet), and safety on defense and needs at backup RB and immediate impact TE on offense...having a fourth TE that is 3+ years away from contributing is a tough sell.
